But sometimes the headphones would kick me out of silent mode for ambience sound for the little sounds even when I set the settings not to.

There could be better insulation from outside noise and although the headphones do an amazing job in most environments, they struggle to cancel out certain noises in real time, such as in a coffee shop. I love that they can be used both wired and wirelessly, so sound quality doesn't have to be sacrificed. The app could be better and Bluetooth connectivity can cut out if multiple devices are carried together. Overall, they're a solid choice for the money.

It provides the best noise cancelling in the market, has superb comfort, and an app that doesn't drink. It is definitely a bass heavy sound signature to start but the app allows for in depth eq adjustments. Included, you can now use the eq with ldac so that's a huge bonus. The touch controls work great, the headphones now pause when you take them off and auto start when you put them on. The call quality is far superior to the 3s. Overall, these headphones are well worth their price. I use them 5 to 6 hours a day at the office and am more than happy. Also I wear glasses and have big ears if you're worried about that. No comfort problems at all.

This man is not a very techy guy so getting something that was user friendly was very important. He loves his headphones. The sound quality is amazing. Owned for 11 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Sound quality (9/10), build quality (9.5/10), long battery life (consistent ~30 hours on full charge), quick charging, being able to connect to 2 devices at once (so underrated if you use your phone and laptop back to back for the same tasks). Cons: The app has been buggy on and off for me (sometimes reactivated speak-to-chat in the settings after an update). The charger cable could've been longer. Sometimes, the touch interface mistook my tapping (pausing/resuming) as swiping (previous/next). Extra notes: At some point they were beeping for no reason, so I had to factory reset the headphones a few times (which did fix the issue). Do not use these for picking up phone calls or for voice chat! Summary: Very good headphones for students if you're only focused on the noise-canceling, audio quality, and build quality. However, the software is a bit buggy, so I would recommend trying them out when they're on sale and taking advantage of the return window if you're on the fence about them.

Comes with a case and usb type c cord. (Could be longer). Light weight and comfortable on the ears. You have download the app on the phone to fully utilise all the settings. At 279 it is really excellent.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had a lot of headphones. Sony, Bose, KEF, Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, B&O, Klipsch. Some wireless, some wired, some with noise-cancellation, some without. Open-back, close-back - like I said, a lot of headphones. Day-to-day usage, I've been using AirPods since December 2016, and then AirPods Pro in November 2019. Been using those as they're insanely convenient and sound good for what I use them for. The Sony XM4 is by far the best set I've ever used. Incredibly comfortable, fantastic sound, decent but not overbearing bass, a comfortable soundstage, and the best noise cancelling I've ever had. The trade off that is losing Apple's convenience factor and Spatial Audio is more than made up for with just how great these sound. Bonus points for 3D Audio (if you can find it) and the customizable EQ.

XM4 are still great noise cancelling headphones

My two older children have them. This is the second set I have bought for my daughter. She - literally - wore the first pair to death (24 /7 - 7 days a week.) and they fell apart after 3 years. Unless you're a teenage girl, they will probably last you even longer. These are still probably one of the best pairs of noise cancelling headphones on the market and, these days, you can often get them on sale for much cheaper than Sony's current generation leader WHXM5s. I have enjoyed my own XM4s so much that I have seen no reason to upgrade - and probably won't - until my pair finally kicks the bucket. Unless you need to have the most current shiny - these remain a great choice in HQ NC headphones.

After some research it became clear that for the most part a decision between Bose and Sony was just about a toss-up with each having features that would apply to specific users. I went with the Sony due to some sharp pricing, longer charge life and a "killer ap" the headphones turn off when removed. In use, I am not disappointed with my decision, they are comfortable for extended use, even without noise cancellation do a great job of keeping noise out and provide an excellent listening experience. Have not yet had the opportunity to test battery life but don't see myself ever testing the upper limits of battery life.
