I nearly wore them out after 4 years of use and would still have them if they weren't stolen. The WH-1000XM4 are better in everyway. My old XM3 would let noise in even in noise cancelling mode. When I wear the XM4 I can't hear doors open or close or my pets. I can't hear outside noise like I could with my old headphones. This is a bonus for stuff like flights. It's terrifying when I'm at home. I don't use these at home because I can't hear anything outside the headphones. I went with the XM4 over the XM5 because I feel like the headband is sturdier and would fit my 63 cm circumference head.

Top notch wireless headphones

The sound quality is quite good out of the box, but can be tailored to your preference using the available phone application.

The chat and ambient features surpass my older Bose Quiet Comfort headphones and the sound is excellent. The touch is cool, but mechanical volume control would be better. Good value when on sale.

Nice small incremental update. Prefer over XM5

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Couldn't get used to XM5's as you can't comfortably wear them around your neck the same way as those the ear cups can't bend towards you and your chin smacks them any time you turn your head so I ended up with these. I use these for nearly 8 hours a day while working and they feel slightly heavier than the XM3's I had before and added to the weight discomfort but I can tell the audio quality and noise cancelling is somewhat improved over the XM3's. I thought I'd like the auto pause when you take them off but having to hit play again just because I'm adjusting them or want them to keep playing music while hanging on neck does get mildly annoying

They also have the ability for transparent sound so you can hear your surroundings. My biggest complaint are the touch controls on the side of the ear cup. I constantly brush up against it causing the volume to change and/or pause. I would much rather have physical buttons, this feels more like a gimmick.

With just ANC on, I can still hear loud noises but much more suppressed. Easy to use 2 devices without having to forget and re-connect. Amazing battery life.

Hands down my favorite pair of headphones

I also some beats solo and studio headphones and these are far superior compared to beats. This thing has one of the best Active noise canceling in any headphones out there. Even though they are expensive they go on sale quite often and there are plenty of good opportunities to buy them in a good deal. One thing I did find that has gone down compared to the previous models is the unboxing experience, and how it feels. The older model felt premium, the cups had some texture and look unique. The complete smooth plastic feel is something I don’t like too much. That aside this is still a great buy and would recommend anyone looking amazing noise canceling headphones.

Sony WH1000XM4 Headphones

These were on-sale, had good reviews, so decided to try a pair. Went to Best Buy to look at them and thought they sounded great. When I got home, I realized that the headphones came in a nice case and included a detachable wire so that I could plug directly into the airplanes system, perfect! Now I have the ability to go wireless or wired and have a great sounding pair of headphones.

If you sweat a lot or for more serious workouts, you may want to consider the WF-C500, WF-1000XM4, or WF-1000XM5.

Sounds great, some quirky features

They do shut off when you lay down if the automatic shut off is activated. Simple fix but kind of a weird feature. The blue LED light blink randomly. Unsure how to stop that from happening.

They fit perfectly and wear them for long time. You can easily forget you have them on. They control ambient sound very well and do good job even while doing the lawn.
