Great headphones with quirks

The noise cancelling is excellent, the sound quality is strong, and they are comfortable enough to wear for longer listening sessions. The main annoyance is the automatic detection and touch controls, which can be a little too sensitive or trigger when I do not mean for them to. Even with that, they are still a very good pair of headphones and I am happy with them.

The battery life is impressive, often lasting longer than I'd expect, and the noise-cancelling functionality is top-notch, really letting me immerse myself in my music or podcasts. However, there are a couple of gripes. The built-in Alexa support can be hit or miss, and the mobile app isn't the most user-friendly. Additionally, the adaptive noise-cancelling feature isn't really my cup of tea. Still, overall, these headphones deliver where it counts.

And by far the best headphones I’ve owned. I upgraded only for the color and to have one dedicated for work and the other for traveling. Tried the Bose quietcomfort initially and returned them for these instead. I used them on a trans Atlantic flight and it was incredible, couldn't hear the airplane at all. Actually helped fix my bluetooth issue on computer. Only draw back is that when using for gaming, they cant function as headphones and mic at the same time. Small inconvenience, but if you're thinking for primarily gaming and you use Discord or play with friends I would go for a gaming headset over these. For anything else, these are amazing.

Overall excellent except for battery remaining %

Fantastic noise cancelling. Great colour. My only issue is the battery is finicky when it comes to charging. I ONLY use these headphones for flights so after some odd battery remaining figures, I just charge before flying (regardless of what the battery indicator says) and all is usually okay. I am taking away 1 star for the 2moverseas flights in which my headphones died 1 hour in due to me thinking there was 90% battery left.

First time I really used them was for a flight from Atlanta to New Jersey, to West Africa. I probably used them for a total of about 6 hours and when I landed they were still at 90 percent power. On the flight back someone had to wave to get my attention because I couldn't hear the passenger that was 3 feet away from me that was trying to get my attention.

I had the previous version for a few years until they broke, so when I got these I was hoping they would live up to the XM3s. And they do! The noise cancelling is elite and blocks out almost all ambient noise. The sound is clear and the bass is the best sounding I've heard in headphones. The quality of the construction is great and they're comfortable to wear for hours.

Fantastic Sound Cancelling Headphones

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Something you need to understand going into the prospect of buying active noise cancelling headphones is that no review — not mine, not anybody else's — is a substitute for putting on a pair and trying them for yourself. That said, I absolutely love my Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones, and wouldn't trade them for anything. It's perfectly possible to use these with no sound cancelling whatsoever, and they're fine for that, I suppose, but they really come into their own when you use them as they were meant to be used. Also, like some other manufacturers' offerings, these are intended to be used with an app installed either on a smartphone or a tablet, because in order to have full access to the range of capabilities they're capable of, you need the app. However, whether you have an Android-based phone or an iPhone, or you have an iPad or an Android-based tablet, you're good to go. Sony has made their app available on both platforms. So, if you're anathema to having or using a smartphone or tablet, then look at a much more basic model, whether from Sony or anyone else. That said, these units are INCREDIBLE at nulling out background sound. In fact, they are built to be able to identify and selectively cancel out different kinds of sound. This can mean something like train and subway noise, motor noise, and a whole range of other things. They can filter out — or not filter out — human voice. In fact, they can selectively not filter human voice yet filter out much of the rest of the spectrum, letting you have a very comfortable conversation with someone without having to take them off and put them back on again. The app, used in conjunction with a tablet or smartphone, can be set up to know if you're at home, if you're out at some specific location, or if you're on the move, and function accordingly. Riding your bike? Going for a walk? Well, perhaps you shouldn't mute out all vehicle noise for safety reasons, and these headphones allow for all those sort of possibilities. So yes, these are not cheap headphones by any means, but for what they do and how well they do it, they're worth every penny.
