Great noise-cancelling feature and the ambient background noise option is great when I need a little white noise, but not full-blown noise while working in places like open-office spaces, cafes, etc. HOWEVER: The only thing I don't like about them is that when I'm on the phone, sometimes the noise-cancelling feature doesn't work as well when I'm in a crowded place with some noise and the noise-cancelling feature is actively trying to cancel noise, you feel me? That's the only thing that bothers me so far, otherwise, I LOVE THEM! Color: Headphones are professional, sleek-looking, and pairs well with my other tech things. The slightly pearl looking finish is a nice touch, especially since over-the-ear headphones can look very bulky/chunky. Comfort: Great, soft headpiece at the top, very comfortable ear pieces. I don't know about you, but I hold a lot of heat in my head which makes wearing these for more than 1 hour in the winter time (northeast US) a little uncomfortable. However, they make for good earmuffs when I'm jumping in and out of the car when shopping. Price: I paid the sale price on these which wasn't too bad, but I had to wait a year or two for them to be the price I was willing to pay. Overall: I am not disappointed! Love these and would buy them again in the future.

For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the headphones is updated (via the Sony Headphones Connect app). These steps may also help when using the mic function of the headphones:
-Re-establish the connection between the source device and the headset.
-Select HFP or HSP for the profile.
-You can also check the settings of the app that you are using for mic sensitivity if available.

My apartment is next to a busy road, when I'm doing hw, the noise cancellation is amazing. Sometimes I don't even use it for music, but just pure Bliss and silence. It's lightweight and comfortable, and I love the dark blue color. 10/10

Amazing ANC and Incredible Sound

If you are looking at the XM4s or even the XM3s, you already know that they have set the bar for ANC. When you put these on, you just hear all that background noise woosh away putting you into silence. I've had other headphones from Anker SoundCore, to Cowin to some weird Chinese brands from Amazon and nothing comes close to the level of ANC that Sony can produce. It is truly incredible. Playing around with the Sony app(s), I stumbled upon the 360 sound demo and I was not expecting it to work as well as it did. Then I found some of the 360 / 3D / 8D videos on YouTube and it is awesome. Goofy ones like the Tucker Zone that will make you turn your head because you could swear someone was behind you knocking on a door, to songs remastered in a way that is like 5.1 and goes beyond your typical stereo effect. I can't believe I waited so long to purchases these, but I am so glad I finally did.

If you find the bass slightly lacking, you can easily customize the audio profile in the Sony | Headphones Connect app. Go to the Sound tab and use the Equalizer settings; you can either select the "Bass Boost" preset or, for the best results, use the custom EQ and increase the horizontal Clear Bass slider, which is specifically designed to add low-end punch without distorting the overall sound.

The notes from different instruments flows sweetly, so mellow. No in-flight entertainment on my flight but with my Sony headphone, the movie sounded like it was seen on a big screen theater. Expensive because they are fantastic. All the great reviews are true, I won’t repeat it all, but I will mention a couple of small complaints, but I still love these headphones. 1) My hair isn’t what you would call long, but these things tend to pluck a hair out every time I take them off. It has gotten less so as I have become more careful but the reason for this is also problem 2 2) Sony always makes these foldable headphones. I couldn’t care less that they fold, and I don’t care or need a cute little case they fold into. I just put them in my backpack anyway, and I get the feeling Sony puts all this r and d into this stupid folding feature. Unnecessary moving parts make them feel cheap and wiggly, and pinch my hair out, and I bet I’m paying more for this annoyance. They are built to last, but I don’t think I am alone in NOT GIVING A CRAP that they FOLD UP. 3) The charging cable is like three inches long...
