    It might just be a thing with over the ear headphones vs earbuds. I barely notice the noise cancellation unless i compare it to passthrough

Please allow us to help you and turn this into a better experience. If you haven't tried yet, please follow the troubleshooting steps below to isolate the problem:

      • Make sure that the noise cancelling function is turned on.
      • Adjust the headset into a comfortable position.
      • The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.
      • When the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app is turned on, the wearer's actions, like walking or running, are detected. The noise canceling function is automatically adjusted and the Ambient Sound Mode may be activated according to these actions. To make the most of the noise canceling function, turn off the Adaptive Sound Control, and try to turn on the noise canceling function manually when you need it.
      • With the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app, check the setting of [Ambient Sound Control]. If it is set to [Ambient Sound], the effect of noise canceling is reduced. Set it to the noise canceling mode.
      • Check with the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app whether the function of the NC/AMB button is set to [Ambient Sound Control].
      • Because the noise canceling performance is automatically optimized by the Auto NC Optimizer function according to changes in the wearing condition and usage environment, you may notice fluctuations in the noise canceling effect.

    Questionable Build quality

    Review specific to headphones and not best buy. The headphone hinge supporting the left cup came off. Sony support was apalling as the customer rep kept insisting that they were not responsible for the make of the product. For a $400 product, Sony claims no responsibility on build quality. I like the sound but the build quality is questionable.

    From usability stand point it wasn't as great as other brands. Also, top part was putting pressure on my head over time. And sound / eq wasn't as good as other top of the line headphones.

      For optimum fit and comfort, make sure that you are wearing the headphones properly. Adjust the headband depending on your head shape. You may find this link helpful:

      For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the headphones is up-to-date (via the Sony Sound Connect app). Sound quality may vary depending on the source content. Aside from adjusting the equalizer, these steps may help improve your experience:

      -When playing music, if the headset and the transmitting Bluetooth device are connected via an HFP or HSP Bluetooth connection, switch the Bluetooth connection to A2DP with the connected device.
      -When using a video calling application on a computer, switch the Bluetooth connection to HFP or HSP by operating the computer. During a video call, sound quality may become low due to the conditions of the communication line.
      -If the headset connects to the previously connected Bluetooth device, the headset may only establish the HFP/HSP Bluetooth connection when it is turned on. Use the connected device to connect via an A2DP Bluetooth connection.
      -When listening to music from a computer on the headset, the sound quality may be poor (difficult to hear the singer’s voice, etc.) for the first few seconds. This is due to the computer specifications (priority on stable connection at the start of transmission and then switches to priority on sound quality several seconds later) and is not a headset malfunction. If the sound quality does not improve after a few seconds, use the computer to establish an A2DP connection.

    Big step down in almost every way

    I've been a huge fan of both the wh-1000xm3s and wh-1000xm4s, but the wh-1000xm5 are a massive step down from both of those on every front. The sound quality is worse. The ANC is close to ineffective. And above all, they are extremely, EXTREMELY uncomfortable to wear. They no longer fold (no real reason, just change for the sake of change), meaning that the fit is also less customized. They're just rigid and hard and hot, and that's it. The ear cups are also now inexplicably super-long and narrow, so they rub against the sides of your ears constantly but also do not provide any support whatsoever, nor do they actually even close over your ears, hence the gigantic drop in ANC capabilities. Then the headband is massively thicker than past models and is positioned in a way that forces it against the top of your head incredibly hard--and because those ear cups are twice the length of a normal ear and only about 1/2 as wide, they do nothing to stop the super-hard headband from angrily digging into your scalp. I can wear the wh-1000xm4 for hours at a time without discomfort, even all day sometimes, but these things HURT very badly after about 5 minutes. I really do not understand what Sony was going for here, since my head and ears are normal and human-shaped, not like whatever monstrous lake creature these are designed for. And Sony, how are you STILL so bad at touch control, after how many generations now? It gets triggered when it shouldn't and doesn't work when it should. And even if you TURN OFF touch control, anytime you touch them--like, say, you need to constantly adjust the heinous fit--these stupid things makes a "BING" "BING" "BING" noise over and over again until you want to take them off and smash them to bits with a hammer. And you'll be adjusting them constantly because, again, they are SO INCREDIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE to wear. I'm so disappointed by these. I was excited to get the next iteration after the 4s, but they are possibly the worst earphones I've ever bought (aside from Sony's equally disastrously designed and uncomfortable WF-1000XM3 earbuds. What is going on over there?) Color me baffled by the rave reviews these things are getting because they are THE. WORST.

    Sound cuts out, would not recommend

    We bought these for use with a Sony Bravia TV, figuring that they should work well together. Unfortunately after less than a year the headphones developed a problem where the sound would cut out intermittently. We threw the Sony headphones away and bought a pair of Apple Air Pods Pro, which are working fine.

    Everywhwre i watched and read they were lraised for auto switch. You have to manually do it? Make absolutely no sense, airpods and apm both woth so well with the ecosystem. I undertand they are sonys but they are suposed to suto switch and they do not. And the touch pad on the earcup is trash, i woild much ratger have buttons then that gimmick. They will be retuned.

    It works great, my only issue is when you don't want to use them but want to rotate the buds, they are backward, and it is a bad design. It is nothing that fancy though.

    Didn’t last 6 months before they broke. Sony wouldn’t stand behind the warranty so I was just out $400 bucks won’t ever use Sony headphones again that’s for sure

    Obviously, it is a faulty product, as it pertains to durability, not even a year, and just like everyone else problem with it, the hinge broke. For an expensive product it is held together by cheap material. Even with a product alert and in-warranty you will have to pay $99.99 (discount by the way) to get it fixed, because it doesn't cover damage. How it broke, I picked them up one day, and they just snapped on the left side. If you choose to buy this, get the Geek Squad Protection, Sony's warranty won't help you.
