Super comfortable, with impressive technology

The padding on the earpieces is a grade above any other headphones I've tried. I could wear them comfortably for hours with no noticeable ear fatigue. They also provide a really good seal against the side of your head to keep out any noise that might slip past the noise cancelling, which is the second thing you notice - the lack of any sound. It's like entering a cone of silence. They evidently use an array of microphones to aid in noise cancelling, but however they do it, it's extremely effective. That noise cancelling ensures you hear nothing but the sounds you're listening to, and here, the quality is extremely good as well. Excellent reproduction across the entire sound range. You also have the ability to tailor your listening experience using the accompanying app. There are a few presets, or you can adjust the equalization manually to suit your own taste. There is also one incredibly neat trick these headphones have, and that is sensing when you're talking to someone and passing through the sound of their voice. You don't even have to tap any buttons to make it happen; it automatically senses the conversation. Instead of having a bunch of buttons that you have to remember the location and function of, the right earpiece is touch-sensitive, so you can control the volume and playback functions with intuitive swiping gestures. Unlike some other touch-sensitive headphones I've used, I had no issues with accidentally activating those controls when I didn't intend to. These are the best headphones I've ever used.

The XM5 can be paired with Windows 10, 8.1, and Mac. We also have troubleshooting steps if your unable to pair using one of these operating systems. Please refer to the Help Guide below.

We also recommend updating the software Version 1.1.3. Please launch the Headphones Connect app to check and verify the software.

Cleaner on the low end brings out more detail in the mids and highs. I had moments of "wow...I never heard that before"...and this is coming from the xm4. I won't say it's massively different than the xm4 (I use the bright eq setting) but it's there. Noise cancelling is impressive. Give it about 2 or 3 seconds to adapt to your surroundings and just listen to the quiet kick in. It's pretty cool. I tested it out with a vacuum cleaner running right next to me. At first the xm4s are full on so you might be fooled in thinking that the 5s are worse but let the xm5s adapt and kick in. Once you do you'll be blown away. Larger case and no fold in doesn't bother me. The case is longer but it's also thinner. All in all I'm happy with these. An IP rating would have been nice but at this point and outside of that I'm not sure how you can make these any better. The 6's will have big shoes to fill.

great headphones, logistical issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.great! truly noise-cancelling, and the sounds come through really nicely. my one grievance is that they don't fold up so i have to use the case to transport them, and also the side-touch features are not easily learnable. battery life is great, lasts me a few days at a time and i use headphones pretty frequently

A great pair of headphones for anyone to use

I am someone who loves to listen to music almost all of the time. These headphones are comfortable for long use, even with glasses. They do get hot after a while but otherwise very comfortable. The sound is also fantastic and it includes a versatile equalizer. They include a feature called multipoint connection which switches the headphones between two connected devices. This has become useful for when i am in between work and my phone. The noise cancelling is superb as well, making the world nearly silent. These headphones are definitely worth the price point.

Turn down the volume of the connected device if it is too loud.
When playing music, if the headset and the transmitting Bluetooth device are connected via an HFP or HSP Bluetooth connection, switch the Bluetooth connection to A2DP with the connected device.
Some devices that emit ultrasonic sound waves designed to repel rodents may occasionally be installed at the entrances of commercial facilities or subway stations. Near such devices, the ultrasonic sound waves may cause noise or unusual sound to be heard from the headset. Leave the place where the noise or unusual sound is heard. Or turn off the noise canceling function/Ambient Sound Mode from the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app.

I own B&W PX/PX7, Sennheiser momentum 3, Bose NC 700, Airpod Max, Focal Bathys. As an overall ANC headphone the Sony XM5 are great and will be recommended as my first choice to anyone that is looking for an ANC headphone. Its a jack of all trades. Solid ANC (not the best- the Bose QuietComfort Ultra are better for that) Mid Average sound quality (the best are Senheiser Momentum 4, Focal Bathys and Mark Levingson 5909) Best App features. LDAC codec is only supported by a few android devices. Bluetooth connection and build quality is why i gave it an 8/10. The overall plastic feel draws concerns for wear and tear and feels as if the life span may only give you 2-4 year, but great move on sony as they refresh the series every 2 years. And occasionally the bluetooth would drop, which is unacceptable in 2024. However, the XM5 still holds up for 2024 but when its on sale. I wouldnt pay $399 wait untill its $100 marked down.

The best ANC headphone i have righr now!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been trying plenty of headphone foe thr reaaon years. Anker, Mpow, Bose, even the Sony XM4. And XM5 is by far the best one i purchased. Bose is great, Sony XM4 is close to perfect and XM5 is even better on the comfort side. (*) I use iphone to do the comparion between bose ans sony since bose doesnt support ldac). Sound quality wise Bose and Sony is so close unless I test it side by side. Anker is great product with the price you pay, sound is decent, you have equalizer. But comfort wise, it didn't get close to Sony. Mpow is the best on low budget ANC for me now. I try some samaung in ear but i can never get use with it. As for Sony XM5, it warms up fast since it is over the ear but at least i didn't feel to hot while using it. (1) I use android phone with LDAC for sound quality testing and Android phone can usw euqailzer to get better performance. Both anker and Sony support Anker but still Anker cannot compete with Sony on most aspect except price.

best headphones you’ll ever use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.worth every penny. super comfortable and lightweight, they don’t slip off while workout out, extremely noise canceling & bonus points for being cute. we all know most over ear headphones are hideous. i’ll truly never wear another pair of headphones. not to mention they’re EXTREMELY durable. i’ve spilt water, & i mean SPILT WATER on these bad boys twice, like soaked to the point of no return & was going to throw in the towel to buy a new pair. NOPE, once dried they still work like new. it’s shocking. if you’re thinking about pulling the trigger on these, do it, you won’t regret it!

It was still hard to make out the lyrics in songs and even podcasts. Also, the noise cancellation was not good at all. Any ambient noise would bleed right through, and since the audio quality already was not very good, it made the experience even worse. Please do better, Sony! If you are going to charge $400.00, please make it work next time! Thanks.

You can make few adjustments to your headphones settings to suit your needs through the Sony Headphones Connect app. It has an Equalizer setting which can be customized to fine-tune your music. This will give you more control over your headphones and their performance.

Noise is good but not the best( when u go to study at normal coffeeshop you will still hear people nice and clear yes not loud as without but i used better anc headphone befoe.
