Good travel headphones.

The battery got messed up so I got the AirPods Max and when the XM5s came out, I figured to give them a shot. They are a good upgrade, they sound good in most to all music genres, but personally I EQ them to sound more neutral because the Sony line always have a bass-heavy sound profile. These are not as muddy and overwhelming though. The new added features are a welcome upgrade, and they are very comfortable. I’m already used to having non collapsible ear-cups, so it’s not the end of the world. They sound good, have tons of features, and have an attractive new design. They are good and a keeper for traveling.

I never turn them up more than halfway and it really shuts out any and all noise. The noise cancellation is also a big plus. I hardly have to charge them. Have had them for a few years and really like them. I only didn’t make them a 5 because sometimes at the gym they slide off. Might just be because my head isn’t big enough. Also comes with a cord if you want to plug them into a device. But I’ve found that noise cancellation doesn’t work if it’s plugged in instead of being connected to Bluetooth.

We appreciate the feedback about them slipping at the gym. For active workouts, our WF-1000XM5 earbuds might be a more secure fit.
Just a tip: noise cancellation does work when the headphones are plugged in with the audio cable, but only if they're powered on.

The ANC is top notch, better than the 3's which I was already impressed with. Ability to connect to two devices is awesome! Yes they redesigned the headset so it doesn't fold up nearly as compact as the 3's, but I don't travel much and these seem a bit sturdier. The fit is better also, but again, I have no problems with the 3's in that regard. The sound is not as bassey as the 3's but they are much more clear with a wider stage. The battery life is... decent. Are they worth 400 eye-blistering dollars? Yes if you want the latest tech and no if you have higher financial priorities. They are, after all, only plastic headphones...

However, we are sorry we were not able meet your full expectations with regard the bass sound and battery life of the unit. If you haven't yet, please try to follow the troubleshooting steps below. To ensure an optimal listening experience, downloading the Sony Headphones Connect app lets you adjust your bass levels and gives you different sound modes. There is even an EQ in there—which can be customized to fine-tune your music to your liking. You can edit the volume of the CLEAR BASS. Increasing the CLEAR BASS setting value allows your headphones to reproduce dynamic deep bass without distortion, even at a high volume. NOTE: When the audio source does not contain much bass sound, the bass sound may not be audible.

Great but not a fan of matte finish

The matte finish is a little annoying- not sweat friendly and a little hard to clean up with wipes. Another thing I think that theyre the perfect weight.

Great Headphones

I had the XM4 for a brief moment. These feel much lighter. Some may even say they feel cheap but they manage to still feel premium to me. But because they are so light, they almost feel fragile. The noise cancellation is great, best in the industry. I do miss the variable noise canceling of the XM4 instead of just on or off on the XM5. Very comfortable for me. Very light on the head and room for my ears. When reading reviews, remember sound is subjective as well is fit and finish. Try them for yourself.

Not right for me

After reading that you might wonder what would possess me to return these. I do a massive amount of reading, note taking, and typing. Every time I looked down to read a book, or write notes my music would pause and the headphones switched to transparency mode. Nobody I talked to could figure out how to stop this from happening. I hope my experience was an anomaly, but I wasn't willing to chance it again, so back they went.

First, the noise canceling is unreal. The moment I put them on, the world fades out. Background chatter, engines, and everyday noise just disappear, making them perfect for studying, travel, or winding down after a long day. Sony clearly refined their already top-tier ANC even further with this model. The sound quality is where these really shine. The audio is clean, balanced, and immersive. Bass is deep but controlled, mids are rich, and vocals sound incredibly natural. Whether I’m listening to music, watching videos, or taking calls, everything feels crisp and intentional. The adaptive sound features are smart and genuinely useful, adjusting seamlessly to my environment. Comfort is another huge win. Great Upgrade

These earphones are lighter and much more comfortable than my previous earphones. The sound quality has improved as well but it is hard to beat any Sony headphone when it comes to true sound quality.

Excellent follow up to the xm4

The foam padding on the ear cup is incrediblly comfortable. I often wear these up to 12 hours at a time with only slight discomfort near the end. My only complaint is that they don’t fold up like the xm4s did into a small case. They dont not fold at all so the case is somewhat bigger now. So, a small hit on portability.

Perfect Headphones

I work from home and my office is in the livingroom, sometimes the family comes to watch TV and the sounds get loud. I turn on noise cancellation and im able to take my training, receive zoom calls without interruption. Then when im done with meeting i turn it off and reengage with my family. They are light and not discomforting on your head. I love that they keep a charge almost three to five days, before i charge.

These headphones are my lifesavers, I have bad auditory issues and these headphones are really great with their noise cancellation, I love how they sit around my ear and they do an amazing job masking out the background noises, I also love that there is an app that allows me to choose just how much background noise I’d like to hear! They’re truly the best headphones I’ve owned and I highly recommend them! I get about 24 straight hours of battery life from them and they are almost fully charged within 30-45 minutes!

The bass is nice and deep and can get really loud. It’s also has the same controls in android/ios. The noise cancellation is really great and same with the transparency. Battery life… Amazing! It even gets 3 hours of playback in just 3 minutes. The touch controls are also really easy to navigate and with just one hand over the cup of the right earphone can turn the music down and turn into transparency mode. It also can detect your ear and pause any playback when you take them off.

Great set of headphones

I have worn these continuously for 3+ hours on calls and also for music and the battery is amazing so far. You need to get used to the touch gestures but takes no time to het familiar with them. I would recommend these for the features offered at this price point.

Recommended heaphone of the year

Microphone quality is great especially when outdoor when its windy. Controls take a while to get use to sometimes when tapping headphone it dosent respond as quick but still works. Comfort is 10/10 especially those who wear ear piercing could wear them all day. Noise cancellation is very great tested with a loud fan next to me and could hardly hear a thing. Overall would recommend product and for the price range is good.
