Excellent noise cancelling. Comfortable to wear for hours on end. Sound is perfect. Battery lasts for a long time and charges quickly. If you want to invest in a solid pair of over the ear headphones then these are it.

Best ANC, not so on audio.

The bass is none existent and voice is muffled not to mention low volume the produce at the max. Can improve a bit with EQ. For pro travelers with ANC in mind, get them. If is music then this are not the headphones for you. I returned them.

Great Headphones for Me

Aside from a slight discomfort after wearing them for hours at a time, these are great headphones. The versatility of being able to have them wired or not is exactly what I wanted from headphones. I can use them to plug into airplane monitors, my external desktop mic while gaming, and my laptop if needed. All while having the option to go wireless if needed. Coming from the Bose QC35ii, the fact that these headphones dont fold up is slightly annoying, but its not the end of the world. The gestures on the earcup work the way theyre supposed to and the passthrough is nice if you need it. Battery is hardly ever an issue. Only once has it needed to be charged at an inconvenient time (and thats bc I hadn't charged them in 3 weeks).

Light and comfortable and the NR is excellent. I had originally purchase Air Pods Max, but they were so darn heavy. I am in a full Apple environment and the integration cannot be beat, but those things are ridiculously heavy. I will take the lack of integration to get the nice weight and comfort.

The sound is great, they're very comfortable (I wear them for 6+ hours at a time and they cause no discomfort), and the batter life is awesome. 10/10 would recommend

Great ANC headphones!

It sounds as good, but the ANC is quite a bit better. I bought some beats with ANC between the XM4 and XM5, and the beats were not great in any characteristic - comfort, sound quality, and ANC. The XM5 is top-notch in all 3 areas, and the app that controls the headphones is also top-notch.

A great pair of headphones.

One of the best pairs I own! I debated between these and bose, ended up with these, and they have been great for airplanes, syncing over Bluetooth is pretty easy and they are comfortable for several hours without issue.

I loved the sound quality and noise cancellation, but as a glasses wearer my head would start hurting if I wore them for too long. I then turned to Bose’s QuietComfort but ended up returning them immediately because the sound quality and noise cancellation just didn’t match Sonys. So I decided to try the XM5s and they are truly the best headphones I’ve had. As comfortable if not more so than the Bose headphones, but with a far superior sound quality and noise cancellation. (So if you’re on the fence between the Bose and the Sony, go with the Sony!) My only very nitpicky complaint is that the microphone only works via Bluetooth, so if you’re using these headphones wired the microphone won’t work. Although this is probably not an issue for most people. And while some people don’t like that they don’t fold up I don’t mind and think the non-folding structure probably helps them feel more comfortable.

Please be advised that the microphone function of the headphones is disabled when using the supplied cable. Use the mic of your source device. These can be used with glasses. The WH-1000XM5 fits snugly around your ears. Unfortunately, they don't fold as they do in the XM4. For comfort, try adjusting the headband and the earpads properly. These lightweight headphones are beautifully finished in newly developed soft fit leather. This material fits snugly around the head with less pressure on the ears while keeping out external sounds. Our elegant design with stepless slider, seamless swivel and hanger, and silent joints, makes WH-1000XM5 a pleasure to wear. Thank you for trusting Sony! -Jess

I care more about the audio quality of a game, movie, song than most other things. My previous headphones were v-moda crossfade m100s, which still work btw 10 years later. I wanted to move onto wireless headphones as the convenience is great. The active noise canceling is awesome and the sound quality of these headphones is awesome. Sony has always been a great company, imo, and they have always done one thing well with audio, and that is bass. The bass out of these headphones is well done and refined. Not over powering, nor dull. The highs and mids are just as good as the vmodas as well. Good job Sony, these are awesome headphones. Oh! The app with the equalizers and such is great, and the hand gestures and features is really cool.

LOVE these headphones

The ANC on these is very good as well, I wear these at university all the time and I can attest these are amazing, much better than my AirPod Pros that I used to use for studying and writing papers

Amazing but noise cancelling is overhyped

The app is super easy to use, and is very customizable to your own personal fit. One thing thats weird is the headphones swivel outwards rather than inwards, meaning the inside of the headphones are exposed when around neck. Thats one thing thats odd, also the case, the flat part is actually the top. Which is funny because you would think that the flat size is the bottom (where it would rest). Just everything feels backwards when it comes to the case and how the headphones swivel. Other than that, everything is great, i love the colors too.

Great- but glasses users beware

The reason these lose a star for me is the new design messes with glasses and disrupts the active noise cancelling which side by side with my WH-1000XM3’s sounds a lot worse. I thought it was a defect, but after looking at the Sony subreddit this is a common issue with glasses users. Not sure if Sony will fix it or not, but as of now ANC quality is severely reduced and underwhelming. Disappointed in Sony as $400 is a lot and I expected better.
