I had the WH-1000xm3 for several years and "upgraded" to these. The noise cancelling doesn't work in many situations. The settings also revert often when switching between devices. The design is also less portable and the case is larger. I am really disappointed in this headset. I would rather use my old headset with the battery that doesn't last - at least it works to block out noise.

Slightly bigger than the 4’s

I had the 4’s and they fit a little big too, but the 5’s are a good bit bigger. Because they don’t clamp tight enough and the head band is too long, they don’t seal well and pull away from my ears when I turn my head side to side. This effects the noise canceling because it won’t seal around my ears consistently. And because it doesn’t have enough clamping force, the headband puts more pressure on the top of my head and hurts after awhile. I love Sonys, but I prefer the fit of the 4’s. I don’t have an abnormally small head either!

I tried using earbuds watching my favorite television series and movies but they hurt my ears. I had been waiting for the Sony M5's to go on sale Black Friday 2023 and they did. I purchased the Sony - WH1000XM5 noise canceling headphones and the sound quality is fantastic, better than the M4's. I prefer the M5's case oppose to the M4's.

Big Head - Sony vs Max

Most of my devices are apple and this works super smooth between them, its easy to connect and everything. The transparent mode is unmatched for the maxs, but I think everything else is better on the 5s. I have a bigger head and to me these fit much better than the maxs, I would suggest this for bigger head people the maxs had a lot of force and did not feel good for long periods.

It doesn’t push down on your hair, the boise cancellation is really good, and the touch pad comes in handy a lot. I’ve had it for around 1 year now and no issues. Skip Sony - go for Bose

They were originally purchased to replace my older Bose headphones, which has a weak battery. But all I hear is the noise around me, and it won't sit well on my head. I had high expectations for the Sonys, but the noise cancellation feature is far from spectacular - especially at this price point. It's also a pain to connect with Bluetooth and takes more time to charge. Back to the Bose. I've learned my lesson. Never again.

We sincerely apologize that the WH-1000XM5 headphones have not met your expectations, particularly regarding their fit and performance during Teams calls. The issue of hearing excessive noise during calls is common when conferencing apps force the headphones into a lower-quality Bluetooth mode (HFP); we recommend manually checking your PC's sound settings to ensure the "Headset (WH-1000XM5 Hands-Free)" profile is selected before joining a call. Regarding the fit, ensure you gently adjust the headband sliders so the earcups achieve a complete seal around your ears, as this is crucial for optimal noise cancellation performance.

Work great for hard of hearing

I am someone that uses hearing aids so was trying to find something able to accommodate without having to just crank up the volume. These headphones achieve that by adding a lot of customization within the app. I’m also able to use them for work calls and switch between my laptop and personal device seamlessly through the dual Bluetooth connection.
