    The product is a PAIN in the circuit to use. The app is not intuitive and the equalizer is best suited for professional sound engineers. Also, the "geek squad" at 2 different stores was useless and the return window is 2 weeks not 30 days like many others. Don't buy these and if you really want to anyway DON'T USE BEST BUY

    Amazing headphones, bad unit

    I’ve been hyping myself up for weeks about recieving the headphones. When I finally found the time to unbox them however. The headphones turned on and played music. The touch side panel didn’t work, I downloaded the app and the headphones shut down completely even thought they were charged. Returned the next day.

      Hi esponprojector, We're sorry to hear about the noise cancelling issue you're having. This is definitely not the news that we would like to hear. If the effect of noise canceling is not sufficient, please follow the troubleshooting steps below to resolve the issue:

      Make sure the noise canceling function is turned on.
      Adjust the headset into a comfortable position.
      The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.
      When the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app is turned on, the wearer's actions, like walking or running, are detected. The noise canceling function is automatically adjusted and the Ambient Sound Mode may be activated according to these actions.
      To make the most of the noise canceling function, turn off the Adaptive Sound Control, and try to turn on the noise canceling function manually when you need it.
      With the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app, check the setting of [Ambient Sound Control]. If it is set to [Ambient Sound], the effect of noise canceling is reduced. Set it to the noise canceling mode.
      Check with the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app whether the function of the NC/AMB button is set to [Ambient Sound Control].
      Because the noise canceling performance is automatically optimized by the Auto NC Optimizer function according to changes in the wearing condition and usage environment, you may notice fluctuations in the noise canceling effect.

    Trash I purchased these, and within 4 weeks they stopped responding to commands by touching and tapping. I tried to return and exchange through Best Buy and it was outside of the 15-day return window. This is ridiculous!

      When you wear the headset over a cap, cloth, a scarf, hair, etc., wearing detection may not work properly, and the touch sensor control panel may not be available for operation. Wear the headset so that your ears are inside the earpads. We also recommend to clear the touch sensor so that you can tap the touch sensor directly.     Excellent wireless noise cancelling headphones

    Excellent headphones. The noise canceling is pretty good if not downright excellent. They are mostly comfortable with one caveat. I also use them for voice chat and phone calls and haven't had any complaints from listeners. Battery life is also extremely good. I can use them all day and not have to charge them every single day. One issue is that the headband can get uncomfortable if worn for long periods on a bald head! Another complaint is the lack of a Windows app to tweak the settings in Windows. I must pair it with my phone or tablet, update the settings, and switch back. Another issue, which is not a big deal for me, is that the sound quality can degrade when connected to multiple devices simultaneously. I assume this is a problem with Windows as anything else, but I haven't done any troubleshooting yet. Overall, despite the issue, I am thrilled with these headphones, and despite their cost, if I lost them, I would get another pair. The issues they have are minor to me and not an impediment. The

    I have the previous version of these headphones and gave them a glowing, 5 star review. When I saw the 5's were coming out, I wondered how Sony would improve upon perfection and they did it! I prefer the styling of these and love the case and the convenient pocket for the wires. As with all Sony products, the setup was simple and customizing the sound using the Sony headphone app was just as easy. The features are pretty similar to the old ones, but I think they've really improved upon the sound and functionality. The bass sounds ridiculous, everything sounds crystal clear and they fit comfortably on my head. I love being able to connect my work PC and iPhone at the same time so I can switch between phone calls and Zoom/Teams calls. I love the way these look, and yes the case is a bit thicker, but it's a good trade off. I wore these for 9 hours straight doing work, listening to Stern, music, sports talk, taking calls, etc and I could barely tell I was wearing them. The battery life is fantastic as well. For me, these are the best headphones out there and well worth the money.

    The Sony WH-1000XM5 noise cancelling headphones are, simply put, outstanding. They are lightweight and comfortable to wear. The styling is minimalist and sleek. The build quality and materials both feel to be high-quality. The sound quality for music, podcasts, and phone calls has been impressive. The noise cancellation is just plain unbeatable (and I’ve used quite a few different ANC headphones during travel, transit, and working in a buzz-y environment). The touch-sensitive control pad on the right earcup is intuitive and easy to use. The companion app allows for a high level of customization with a moderate amount of fluff. The battery life is generous, and the ability to rapid charge using USB-C PD is super convenient. If I had to find something negative to say, it would be that the carrying case is a little bit bulky. Sure, they’re not inexpensive, but they look, feel, and work at a premium level. Overall, I’m thrilled, and would gladly recommend these to others who need high quality sound and active noise canceling.

    Great headphones, worth the price?

    Sony ha+as joined the bandwagon with no plastic packaging, I like it seems they are trying to be responsible. As for the headphones, great sound, rich bass and clarity is all A+. You can pair them with your phone and another device and when you receive a call there is no confusion, they know.. They pair effortlessly with other devices, Google Fast Pair we flawless. Another neat feature, when you remove them from your ears, they pause the music, put them on and BOOM, the music starts up again. NICE !!! I would put them in the top 3 of my over the ear headphones, although one in that group, for the same audio capability (In my mind) is $100 less. Possibly these do have an edge in the noise cancellation department. And while on the subject the noise cancellation is pretty fabulous. Here is another reason to spend the $$ on these, the Speak to Chat feature. Start a conversation and they allow ambient noise so you can actually have that conversation without taking them off.. Well there goes me ignoring someone cause I can't hear them...LOL. Comfort wise I have used them for a period of 4 hours completing some training. They are very comfortable, I could have worn them all day. All in all these are great headphones, but the price tag...ugh.. The features above and beyond the great sound I think makes the price worth it. I have to say, even though they are pricey I would recommend them.

You can pair and connect your headphones even without using the Sony | Headphones Connect. When pairing, please make sure your headphones and smartphones are within 1 m (3 feet) from each other. When playing music, if the headset and the transmitting Bluetooth device are connected via an HFP or HSP Bluetooth connection, switch the Bluetooth connection to A2DP with the connected device.     Called geek squad with simple question resulting in so much frustration that cancelled my service with best buy. Said goodbye to 3k warranty attached to it for tv and this due to their phone and delivery service both being vacant from a people freindly standpoint. Horrible people.

    Been looking for new wireless headsets after my current one had an earpad rip, but the replacements for it were expensive and out of stock for 2 months, and reviews on the replacement were very low. So instead of waiting for something that may or may not fix my current, I just went with a new brand. The Sony WH-1000XM5 packaging does not look like much - it looks like what you would get standing in line at a Ross or TJ Max just randomly priced in the aisle. However, the insides are a different story. The earpads are large enough to fit over your ears (and I have relatively large ears) and turning it on immediately made my Windows 11 PC immediately asked me if I wanted to connect to it, which I accepted and I was able to make and receive Teams calls immediately on it. There is a Sony Headphones Connect app that allows you to connect to both the headsets itself, while still being connected to a 2nd device (which is not on by default). Connecting to the app also allows you to play with the settings; the most important is the adaptive settings and ambiance / noise cancelling. The headset themselves has multiple microphones to determine the surrounding noise. It can tell if you're standing still/laying down, if you're out casually walking, if you're out running, or if you're on a bus/train. That sounds crazy right? Crazy amazing! It's been warm the last few weeks so I have 2 things that are constantly on and make noise - my fan and my air purifier. They're subtle sounds that you get used to pretty quickly, but sounds. Turning on the noise cancelling (in either transport or staying mode) and the fan and purifier are no longer heard! This is both good and bad, the bad part is if I take a call while the fan is on and aimed at me, the mic is picking up the wind and even though I can't hear it, it affects my voice when speaking - this is not the fault of the headsets though - this is a normal thing to occur when having a fan pointed to your mic! I just have to be aware to shift the fan so I don't sound odd during my calls. Another option for walking/running allows for the ambient sounds, to make sure you can hear people/cars, which is important to make sure you hear someone is trying to talk to you, because sometimes on public transit you will accidentally insult and enrage people who think you're ignoring them. Those people are called crazy. Another feature that is off by default - "Speak-to-Chat" - which means if you do have noise cancelling on and someone is talking to you, instead of manually turning off noise cancelling, if you just start talking it detects your voice and turns off noise cancelling so you can hear the other person speaking. That is both impressive and annoying that it needs to be done - because in my view, if you seem me wearing headsets, that means I don't want to talk to you! Leave me alone! However, people are generally rude and do not care about you and will bother you. Since this is off by default, another way to quickly and temporarily turn off noise cancelling is by simply placing your entire hand over the right speaker, and you'll hear the ambient noise as long as you have it cupped. This is also useful when you think you hear something very lightly, cupping the right side you can hear all noise. More useful features: Whatever you're listing to (be it AppleTV4k, music on iPhone/iPad, or music on PC) taking the headphones off your head is an immediate pause! Putting the headsets back on, instant play. Again, that sounds neat and silly, but being that I am constantly having to pause my music to talk to someone bothering me, the simple act of moving it off my head down to my neck stops my place in the song/podcast without having pull out phone or pause on watch. And yet another feature - the headsets are touch sensitive! Want to quickly pause without taking off the headset? Double tap quickly for a pause/play. Want to raise or lower volume? Swipe up or down! You can also program the left side button to create actions in app, but I'm not going to play with that just yet, everything works well currently. Finally, there is a 360 Reality Audio surround sound app that I haven't gotten into as it seems to enable full immersive audio, which sounds great (and there is a sample to try it), but then you would need audio sources that support it, and I haven't investigated that part enough as it's an extra step to look into for 360 sources. Pros: Excellent sound quality when using Noise Cancellation Speak To Chat quickly turns off noise cancellation to carry out a conversation. Touch sensitive controls Quick pause/play by lifting headsets off ears Able to listen to music on one device, and then be able to take a call on another by being connected to 2 devices at the same time Cons: A little pricey Touch sensitive can accidentally be set off while laying down and just adjusting your handsto your head! As you can see, not much on cons side!

    Returned for a pair of audio Technica m50xbt2.I didn't like that these headphones are a pair of princess headphones they come with a pamphlet telling you no sweat,or small or big shocks so this means no running in them.The sound is muffled compared to the audio Technica and the price is $200 price difference.

      Hi carlos57, we are sorry to hear that the WH-1000XM5 did not meet your expectations and it had to be returned. For the sound quality, you can use the Sony Headphones Connect app to adjust the sound settings to your preference.

      Also, a simple walk in the park or light workouts shouldn’t be of concern for the WH-1000XM5. For more serious workouts, we suggest our headphones specifically designed for that task like the WF-C500s and the WF-1000XM4s.

    Serious connection issues and touch panel problems

    On my second one and still have connection and touch panel issues. Would not recommend. Randomly disconnecting. Touch panel goes crazy out of nowhere

    Needs firmware update

    These sound horrible out the box and i am very disappointed. When i turn them all the way up is when the bass sounds awful the highs and mids sound ok… its the drums and the bass… i picked up my pre ordered pair and exchanged them because i thought i just got a faulty pair and im having the same exact issue
