Better than Beats - for your ears AND your pockets

The short version: these are the best headphones I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few. They pair easily with BT and NFC, have convenient controls on the cans, and have soft and well-cushioned cups. Longer version: years ago I started with Bose TriPorts, and over the years, I've owned other cans from Bose, Beats, Sennheiser and others-- these are my favorite. My music style is eclectic, but I mainly tend towards hip-hop. I enjoy a strong bass response, but only when I can also clearly hear mids and highs. The XB950BT by Sony delivers the sound I've always wanted in a pair of headphones- warm rich bass with a clear high frequency sound stage. As a Black Friday deal, I got these for $99-- an incredible price. The hardware is solid, feels premium and has great aesthetics. I've listed some tracks you should listen to if you want to get a sense of how awesome these headphones are. I've also included some simple iTunes EQ recommendations for some of the tracks for a quality listening experience. The first track listed is Dr. Dre, because well, these headphones put his line of headphones to shame. Hip-Hop 1. Dr. Dre (2001) -" Bi*** Ni***z" 2. Yelawolf (Trunk Muzik) - "Box Chevy pt. 3", "Trunk Muzik", and "Pop the Trunk" --- all three of these tracks HIT hard. 3. G-Eazy - "Lotta That" --- another white rapper track that focuses on low frequency sound. 4. Lil Wayne - 6 Foot 7 Foot (use iTunes "electronic" EQ setting and increase the 2 - 16 KHz frequencies as needed) 5. YoungBloodZ - "Dam*!" (club mix) 6. Snoop Doog - "Pump Pump" (iTunes "piano" EQ settings and increase in 2 - 8 KHz frequencies) 7. Nas - "Ether" (iTunes "electronic" EQ setting with increase in 2-16 KHz frequencies) 8. E-40 - "U and Dat" 9. Cassie - "Me & U" (somewhere in between "R&B" and "piano" EQ settings) 10. Common - "The People" (use iTunes "piano" Eq; it's a little muddy, but makes for a more satisfying experience) 11. Talib Kweli - "Beautiful Struggle" (iTunes "electronic" EQ; warm, hit right and is smooth) Even though I've mainly reviewed these headphones using hip-hop (that's my mood lately), I tried a couple different tracks for those wondering about how the headphones stack up in other genres. Soul: Curtis Mayfield - "Move On Up" (iTunes "dance" EQ with a small increase in 4 - 16 KHz frequencies; gives a much more satisfying and warm experience than normal) Rock: AFI - "The Great Disappointment" (use iTunes "electronic" Eq; the first one and a half minutes of this song cranked to ~75 volume gave me chills) Dance/Electronic: Katy Perry - E.T. (The Remixes) EP -- Benny Banassi Radio Edit (iTunes "electronic" EQ setting with the preamp increased to ~+3 dB; a fun creative remix to Katy Perry's E.T.)

    Awesome Wireless Headphones

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I always wanted some wireless headphones that also sounded great. To be honest I wanted the Beats, but I have to say they are way too expensive and I hear that you have to buy insurance because they mess up after a few months of usage per a Best Buy employee. Anyways Sony is a great brand and trusted and these phones sound just as good as Beats or better and are way cheaper. I got them on sales and I couldn't be happier, the sound is great and calls are clear too. Please know that I did a lot of research and I contemplated on Beats but they are way over priced. The music sounds great. The bass is good and clear and I might add really comfortable and they lasted over 15 hours of play. Hope this review helps!!

I bought the headphones for my husband to use while working outside, but they didn't work out. They keep slipping off his head, even at the tightest adjustment. He also had a hard time hearing the music over the noise of outside equipment. They are being returned, primarily because they keep slipping off.

    Great sounding headphones, BUT...

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Got these headphones on sale during the Black Friday week for 99 dollars. These are great sounding headphones. The bass is loud even without the bass boost. The mids and high tones sound good too. The bass boost feature drowns the mids and highs though. But the bass is very loud when it is turned on. The boost feature is great for electronic music. It is very comfortable to wear and I could wear it for hours at a time because it is very light. NOW, here is my issue. It has EXTRA sounds when used in bluetooth. I don't hear the extra sounds using it wired. The extra sound sounds like a Harley Davidson motorcycle in idle. It is not that loud but I hear it in the background while listening to music and it gets louder during the the silence in between music tracks. I hope I get a reply from Sony to tell me I may have a defective set because nobody seems to notice this issue since no one has ever mentioned this issue in all the reviews here or anywhere online. I'm still within my return period at Best Buy and I may just return these defective or not. I would recommend this product to friend but NOT if they will have this problem too.

I had difficulties trying to connect these to an older Samsung Galaxy phone. Might work better with newer phones. Once I got them connected they work fine, but every time I turn them on, it takes me at least 10 minutes of playing with them and my phone to get them connected.

The headphones are very comfortable with great sound quality. The headphones are light weight, plus the headphone maintain a strong signal when I am in another room from my phone. The plus about these headphones they are cheaper than Beats by Dre and (me personally) are equal or even better then Beats by Dre. Overall this was a great buy.
