Customers are impressed with the XBR X850D Series 75" TV's picture quality, ease of use, and vibrant colors. Many appreciate the 4K resolution and find the upscaling capabilities to be excellent, resulting in a great viewing experience even with non-4K content. However, some users have noted issues with the remote control's responsiveness and contrast in dark scenes. While the design is generally praised, a few customers mentioned the TV's weight as a potential drawback.

Poor customer service by Sony

The quality of the picture of the TV are exceptional. However, after 95 days, the TV stopped working as vertical lines appeared and then the picture turned to a blue gray. Called Sony and it took them 7 days to get the part to the service technician. It took another two days to get an appointment coordinated (loss of work). The technician replaced a circuit card which did not fix the problem. Sony's policy is to ship a refurbished TV as a replacement when the technician cannot fix the item. After long discussions, they approved sending a new TV vice the refurbishment (due to the TV was purchased just over 90 days prior). It took them another 5-7 days to get a tracking number and then it appears it could be another -5-7 days before I get a new TV. It could be up to 30 days to get this issue fixed.

Returning the TV today and trying a much more expensive Sony model. My TV had terrible light bleed on all corners, stretching into the main viewing area. Blacks looked greyish and screen had uniformity problems. Fingers crossed the more expensive model doesn't have this issue.

The tv was working great I had no complaints and no issues till Sony pushed an Android update, now the tv takes 2 or 3 minutes to turn on as it must reboot before it turns on. I have done 6-7 factory resets nothing helps. I have 3 Sony TVs and probably won’t buy another. I can’t reach them through chat or phone because they are to busy. Also I can’t downgrade to the older software.

We purchased this TV and had it delivered and mounted. Less than three weeks later it has a flashing red light and no longer turns on. Best Buy Aiea in Hawaii refuses to help us resolve the issue and simply refers us to Sony. Totally disappointed by their lack of support for a product that we spent $3000 on and their response was that we should have spent additional money on their extended warranty. When you spend money on a premium product, you expect premium service, and this was obviously not the case. Disappointed!

This tv does not update properly. Was told this is a problem with this model. You have to unplug it, wait 2 minutes, and plug it in again to reset it just about every day.

If I had another choice to buy a TV it would not be a soul because I definitely would go back to the LG this so he looks good but very poor and apps and and sound.

Goo picture. For the price, I would buy it again; however, I bought a $4k Sony 4k three years ago from Best Buy, it failed and I cannot get parts for it (per the "Geek Squad"). I found this out after I bought this TV or I would never have bought it. I am very concerned that the same thing will happen with this TV. To this end, given my concerns about quality and customer support - both Sony and Best Buy, I would never buy a Sony or Best Buy TV again.

We compared 3 TV's in the 75" screen size. The Sony, the Samsung and the LG. The LG had a disturbing review regarding it not being totally compatible with Direct TV and needing future updates for some features. I didn't quite understand the issues but didn't want Direct TV issues and non functional features. The picture was terrific but didn't have a true black. The Samsung was clear and bold but the darks didn't look quite right. The Sony came highly recommended by the salesperson at the Wesley Chapel Best Buy store. Blacks are a true, crisp black. The picture is crystal clear! The sound is bold, clean and clear. About the only negative feedback I can see is that the TV is somewhat heavy. Approximately 75 lbs. I don't know what the other TV's weight were. The Sony is Android compatible and not difficult to program. For once we feel that we have purchased a product that totally performs as advertised and is truly worth the $3,300 price. We are really looking forward to the upcoming College and NFL football season!

Turn TV on heard a loud Pop and then the screen went black and the light started blinking red... Sad to say not even 90 days and less then 40 hours of actual TV on time the TV is not working (LEDs should out last my life expectancy - right) and contacting Sony for service was a disaster. Now I am weeks waiting for a repair and they don't even know whats wrong, but very apologetic bla bla bal all a complete sale hype.

Not a great TV for the price. It is better to go with the 65" for the 850 model, IMO. Returned this and went with the 940D.

Sony 75 X850D - Good to Go!
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
My Sony 75 inch X850D is a very nice TV set. My recommendation is that if you can get it on sale, it would be an excellent purchase. At full retail, there might be a few better competing options.
I purchased my first 4K TV set during the week of the Black Friday sale at Best Buy. The television was delivered on the morning of Black Friday. I was shocked when I got a call saying that they were ready to deliver my set almost three hours before the scheduled time. I had not finished preparing the area where I wanted them to place the TV! LOL. And because of that, I simply had the delivery team unbox the unit and ensure that it was working properly. It was literally still in the bottom portion of the box when they left the house. Although I was grateful for their offer to assist with the setup, I wanted to set this big boy up myself to ensure that it was just the way I wanted it.
The set was replacing a Sony 65 inch 1080p set (W850C) which the delivery team helped me to move to the basement. After cleaning the TV stand, cables, and other equipment, I proceeded to install the base and carefully use physics to quickly lift and install this big boy myself. Praise God that my TV stand is not too high! (Don’t try this at home!) LOL.
Once everything was connected, it was time to tweak the picture settings and then check things out.
Of course, the set needed to be taken out of the eye searing high brightness mode and tweaked to my liking. Most every set that I have owned, and currently have are Sony sets. And, I usually configure them with the Custom picture mode settings. However, I liked the Cinema Pro settings on the X850D.
Blu-ray and 4K content look amazing on this set. My Comcast cable box is set to output everything at the 1080p resolution and virtually all HD content looks very good on this set, as well. And OTA HD broadcasts look even better. Gaming on the set is not bad either. The colors are very accurate after proper calibration and brightness is not a problem on this set with such a large screen.
As for the screen uniformity, I got lucky with this set. My set exhibits no major issues with banding, clouding, or light bleeding hot spots. My old 65 inch has a very minor banding issue when some solid colors cover the whole screen. Nothing of the sort with the 75 inch, but I would not call it perfect either.
I am a sports fan and this TV does really well with motion blur on NFL and NBA broadcasts. The motion blur is a bit better than my W850C set. The X850D is better all around and it will rival most of the higher end sets in terms of color presentation and motion capability.
If I am to point out one weakness of the 75 inch, it would be black level when compared to Sony’s higher end 75 inch X940D and Z9D TV sets. I love the Z9D set. It is the perfect LCD TV set in my opinion. However, I am not giving anyone $9K for a 4K TV. LOL. The black level nor the brightness does not compare to the Z9D, and it should not for the price difference. The Z9D is in another league. As for comparison to the X940D, it is close, but the blacks are better when you compare the two. I have seen the X940D and the X850D side by side showing the same content. The 940D is better in contrast and HDR brightness. And it should be for the price difference. In a dark room, the higher end sets will win a shootout hands down.
However, the X850D is not bad at all if you can get over the fact that it’s overall black level is not on par with the higher end sets. It can get pretty dark and will show the color black as true black with most content. However, when watching a movie where the aspect ratio has black bars on the screen, you will notice that the area could be a little darker. In fact, there will be scenes in some movies that may appear darker than the bars. LOL. Fortunately, I watch more TV then I do movies. It’s not a big issue with me.
Is it a deal breaker for some? If you value the color of black bars when watching a movie, then get a 940D or Z9D. If you don’t care and understand that a bias light will fix this issue, then save yourself some money and get this TV set. If you are on a budget have not seen a Sony X940D and Z9D, then all the better. LOL.
I am very pleased with it’s upscaling, color rendition, and clarity. For my first 4K set, it ain’t bad at all. Go get yourself a 75 inch X850D today! Peace!

The logitech remote has been extreemly disappointing. I love the TV and the sound bar and the GeekSquad installation went perfectly. But I find the logitech all purpose single remote to be very frustrating to operate. In many respects it ruins the whole new TV experience. I would like to hear back from someone as to what we could do to swap it out.

Hi, Fasteddie, You seem having an issue with a third-party device. Although the remote is a non-Sony brand, you may still try the steps here to isolate the issue: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38472/. We appreciate your input. Regards, Vincent

Ours died on day 31. Have always bought Sony TVs so this was actually disappointing and funny. Something going on there with Sony and I also did not care for the Android operating system after playing with it for 2 weeks so I was glad when it did die a quick death. Returned for a Samsung 75 since they seem to be the front runner now a days.

This tv has a great picture but it would turn on and off on its own. The IR blasters are junk. The android operating system had a lot of bugs. I had two replacements in 2 weeks and they both did the same thing. I do not recommend buying this tv. Ended up with the 75 super UHD LG and it is amazing.
