Versatile, Durable, Booming Bluetooth Speaker

The overall presentation of the XG500 is crisp. The design is sleek, with a durable mesh fabric surrounding. The handle is sturdy, and thick enough to easily grab and feel comfortable. The size of the speaker is larger than I initially expected, reflecting a boombox. However, it is lightweight enough that you may easily walk around carrying the speaker in one hand or on the shoulder for the throwback. There is a rubber covered panel that encloses the ports of the speaker – including DC in, 2 USB connects – one for play and charging the other for charging, an audio, and then a mic/guitar. This panel is easy to access and stays attached so there is no part to keep track of. On the front, is the button panel including power, Bluetooth connect button, play/stop, volume up/down, and mega-bass on/off. The speaker also has ambient LED lighting on each end in a crisp circle outlining the design. Overall a professional, rugged but clean presentation. The XG500 is quick to connect to Bluetooth (Wireless!). At first, within the first 5-10mins of use there were momentary interruptions of my connection but since then, I have used the speaker for many hours and have not had this issue. I feel there could have been an update or some type of interference, because even from my phone in different rooms of the house I have not had the issue. Since that initial hiccup, sound quality has been superb. There have been no further interruptions in sound output, and overall, the sound is crisp and beautiful. The speaker sound quality is comparable to professional speakers as expected from Sony. Minimum sound of the speaker is ambient, and full sound is quite impressive. Easily going from room to room of a house, and able to be heard outside in a local area. This is absolutely what I would love to take to a beach. The speaker provides a booming, deep base that is enhanced during mega-bass mode. You can feel the vibrations, which I absolutely prefer. If you find the base is too much, simple toggle on/off of the mega-bass can be done by button or app. Speaking of which… the durability of construction for the XG500 allows for various use. The XG500 is sand proof – so beach? Absolutely. In my mind, soundproof means dirt proof, so outside adventures are a go. Also, waterproof, meaning the pool or beach is not off limit. No need to be afraid where you take this speaker. One note is that the speaker is not water “pressure” proof – so do not submerge or take directly into the water. But hey, still quite versatile. The battery life is quite impressive. The speaker boasts 30hours of charge, which I assume depends on sound level. I was able to use this during a whole day of packing on 1 charge while having the volume loud enough to hear through a two-bedroom apartment. If charged the night before, I would very-well assume this could last a whole day out and about. There is also quick charging, with 10 minutes providing 3 hours of playback. Sony also implemented a Battery care feature to improve overall battery health and life span, which I appreciate as someone whose phone dies extremely quick. This Bluetooth speaker can easily outlast my phone – which, to quickly touch on the speaker can receive media through audio input or USB meaning just because one phone dies, does not mean the music must stop. Oh… and that USB port? Can be used to CHARGE a phone. How nifty that the phone doesn’t have to die if you’ve got the table and the music doesn’t have to stop! The microphone input, although not included, may be used for announcements or karaoke! All around a great feature. And the mic input may also be used with a guitar as an amp. Quite versatile and party friendly. There are two apps associated with the XG500. The Sony Music Center app and the Fiestable app. The Fiestable app was more important to me, as this allows for control of the LED lighting. The Sony Music Center app allows for control of the speaker with the phone, I used Spotify mainly for music, so the Music Center app was not too important to me with my main use to toggle on/off mega-bass. Overall the apps could use an overhaul in my opinion, but they get the job done as there is nothing wrong with them just not totally aesthetically appealing. Overall, I am proud to know that I have THE speaker for small events. May it be an outdoor BBQ, indoor chilling (or group packing as in my recent case), a day at the beach, or any other need for music – one can rely on the XG500. With a long battery life, one need not worry about if it is freshly charged but with a fresh charge the music can flourish. The versatility of this Bluetooth speaker is quite impressive, and I believe the simple word speaker does not do this product justice.

Impressionable Speaker
