Mesh Covering is Tearing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this speaker for just a couple months and now the mesh that's supposed to make the speaker water resistant has started to tear. I reached out to see if it would be covered through the warranty, and it isn't. So now the main reasons I bought this speaker (the sleek look and the water-resistant feature) no longer apply. I'm thoroughly disappointed.

Posted .Hello PRD1, we are very sorry to hear your speaker did not live up to your expectations. They are not indestructible, but they should not tear under normal use. If you choose to contact Sony support, please provide photos, and exactly how the speaker was damaged. We take the longevity of our products very seriously, and if we can improve the design, or make a speaker that fits your lifestyle your feedback would be valuable.
Unfortunately, our free 1-year limited warranty does not cover accidental damage. BestBuy does offer additional coverage, at an additional cost, that would cover accidental damage.

Great portable bluetooth boombox

I heard them both side by side at Best Buy, and the Sony definitely sounded a little better! Both are great Bluetooth speakers at similar price points, but I feel the Sony is better built as well.

Everything from jazz to classical was brought forth with amazing clarity. Halfway through Barber’s Adagio for Strings by the London Symphony, my son came out of his bedroom from gaming asking if that was the bluetooth speaker I’d just gotten. He, too, was amazed. Depending upon the mix, you might want to go without the Mega Bass feature — the XG500 produces true-to-recording bass as it is. Using this feature, however, will get the party thumping. Pretty great. I have never heard bass reproduction without distortion from a portable device like this. Note: if you have solid wood floors on a raised foundation, set this puppy on the floor. Compared to other portable units…well, there is no comparison. You can feel the difference. Good job, Sony. One of the things that intrigued me about the SRS-XG500, was the fact that I could use it as a portable guitar and mic amp. What I didn’t realize — and this isn’t Sony’s fault — is that it’s one or the other, not both at the same time. I just hadn’t read the literature thoroughly. Not a deal breaker, since I would only use this feature once a year for our church’s Easter sunrise service. The battery life is impressive. Sony claims 30 hours on a full (2 hr.) charge. Shoot, if you’ve forgotten to charge it up for an event, 10 minutes of quick charging will get you 3 hours of play time. You can even play music through a wired connection while the unit itself is charging. Don’t worry about overcharging, because you can’t. There’s built-in security that will help the battery live longer as the years go by. Bluetooth connectivity was a breeze and simply intuitive. Once connected, the XG500 remembered my phone the next day. I didn’t have to fumble around with the connection process again. There is an app, but unless you’re planning on linking other Sony speakers in a chain, I’m not sure I see the need. Maybe as time goes on Sony will update the app to include actual SRS-XG500 controls. Fingers crossed. Sony has hit it out of the park with this one. Give it a try!

Picky music listener for deep bass.

To me it was more of a non hip hop bass booster where as this xb500 did a better job for satifaction performance without getting a jbl.

While the speaker is running on power from the rechargeable built-in battery, the sound may become low in the event that the rechargeable built-in battery is running out of power and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction. For optimum performance, make sure to charge the speaker sufficiently.

Great Speaker!

The bass doesn’t hit as hard as some other speakers. However, it doesn’t degrade the sound like those speakers do. Definitely recommend if you want a pretty deep bass with clear sound.
