Although it sits on rubberized feet for stability during the bassy moments. The SRS-XG500 is perfect for taking a powerful sound outside. OK battery life, better for indoors…

Battery would last about 6-7 hours. I would buy for indoor use as the sound quality is great. Not for like a party, but personal use. I was expecting it to be a bit louder at the price point it has.

By downloading the Sony Music Center app, you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune the speaker using the built-in EQ and maximize the volume to ensure optimal listening experience. To get the most out of the volume, turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device. You may also find different devices will perform better than others, as will different apps due to different types of audio compression and transmission.
• While the speaker is running on power from the rechargeable built-in battery, the sound may become low in the event that the rechargeable built-in battery is running out of power and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction.

It’s like the jbl didn’t even have to try. It goes on and it goes boom boom boom like a boombox should. The sony has lights and looks like it has a bigger sound but it doesn’t.

Does not work

It then froze and stuttered at full volume like a jackhammer. This goes on for 20 seconds or so until the unit resets itself. I called Sony service and they walked me through a hard reset. It did not remedy the problem. I went and exchanged the unit for another and it does the same thing only worse. It can't make it through one song before having the issue. Called Sony again. They have no idea. Tried both units with mac and iPhone. Same problems.

If the steps above do not fix the issue, please restart the speaker. To restart, press and hold the(power) button for about 8 seconds to restart the speaker.
If the speaker fails to operate successfully after you restart it, initialize the speaker to resume its factory default settings. While the speaker is turned on, press and hold the(play) button and MEGA BASS buttons until the speaker turns off (5 seconds or more).

Big Sound, Big Battery, Great Looks
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony did a great job with a modern take on the 80’s boombox with big sound, big bass, and long battery life. // Sound This speaker gets loud, very loud, and does best in larger, open spaces. It can fill a small room with sound easily and sounds even better the larger the space gets. The Mega Bass feature that Sony is known for boosts the bass significantly for those who prefer a super deep punch of bass. It can be a little overwhelming though with already-bass-heavy tracks but the good thing is you can turn that off if you’d like. // Lights Sony is also known for their lighting with certain speakers that can create a party-like atmosphere with different light patterns based on the music you’re listening to. What I really like about the lights on this particular unit is how the lights are only visible from the sides, not the front of the unit which creates more of an ambient light source than direct which is a lot more subtle. // Construction This speaker is built very well. Solid construction all around with a robust handle so you can easily take it places. Buttons are rubber coated and nice and clicky. The material on the rest of the speaker is sort of like a very durable fabric. Not particularly soft so it won’t tear so it should be nice and durable. // Ports-A-Plenty On the back of the unit, through a water resistant cover, there are a host of different ports to choose from including two USB ports (both for charging/1 for playback), aux in, as well as hooking up a guitar. // Battery life for days 30 hours of battery life. Kind of nuts.

Get the JBL boombox instead!!!

Just ok bluetooth speakers.

We exchanged it for a much better model (XP700) a little larger and same cost. Perfect sound and boom base system.
