It isn’t going to replace dedicated speakers with woofers in your home, the volume just isn’t there. But it provides significantly more bass and volume that the typical, smaller, sizes…. And overall better sound. We use it regularly.

This was my second choice to the JBL top rated unit and the Sony unit offered more flexibility of App control and additional inputs on for source connections in my opinion. I took this unit on vacation and when I first played this indoors at louder volumes music was really good with slight muffle, still really good sound. I took this unit to the beach and the presentation was a big and fabulous sound at loud volumes.....a real party animal. And when you want to relax, the SRS-XG500 plays wonderful at low volume.

Sony - XG500 vs JBL Boombox3

It had a crackle in it and distorted after mid volume, but I dealt with that. Then it fell a couple inches off the table and the end speaker broke off. Unacceptable for a supposed outdoor speaker. Bought this instead on sale for about half that and it is fine. Base seems slightly less indoors, but it works great in our environment. The sound quality seems better than the JBL and it has a few extras we may use sometime.
