Pretty sweet bluetooth speaker that's consistent with Sony quality. Initially I was taken back a bit by the size of this speaker. Most speakers are relatively small and easily portable in a bag or something. This one is quite beefy in size/weight. It measures about 18 inches wide and 11 inches tall. It weighs about 12 pounds so it's got some heft to it. Definitely something you won't be putting in your back/suitcase but still portable. The appearance of the speaker is really minimalist. There's a couple buttons on top for power, volume and Mega Bass options and that's it. The I/O port on the back is covered with a rubber plug and has all the ports. There's USB ports, audio in as well as buttons to turn on/off the lights and check battery level. The speaker is IP66 water/dust repellent so it's perfect for taking with you on trips. The cloth covering on the speaker is also pretty cool and looks great. The sound of this speaker is fantastic. I really like the Mega Bass feature in all of Sony speakers/headphones and this one definitely lives up to that lineage. The highs/mids are crisp and as they should be. The bass on this speaker is really impressive which I love. The bass can handle all the thumping and booming bass notes easily all without drowning out the highs/mids. That, and this speaker can get loud which is a bonus. This is the perfect speaker to bring along with you on a fishing trip or to the beach. Higher volumes on this speaker sound good without too much distortion. There is a companion app you can download for this speaker however it's not required. Personally, I didn't find much value in the app itself. It allows you to control playlists, lights as well as works with the karaoke function on this speaker. I don't do karaoke so I probably won't ever use this feature but the speaker has inputs for that if that's your thing. I found it much easier to pair with the bluetooth on my phone (iPhone) and using the player for controlling the music. Overall, this is a great party speaker that can handle the elements as well as the music.

The Sony SRS-XG500 portable Bluetooth speaker is an awesome party speaker, its light weight, easy to carry handle, 30 hours of non-stop and amazingly loud undistorted, mega bass boosted, clear pure music for your enjoyment. My experience has been nothing but amazing and I cannot wait to start using it my summer BBQ parties. So, lets go over some of the features, Pro’s, and Con’s of the Sony SRS-XG500. Unboxing and Setup: In the you get you one Sony SRS-XG500 and the charging brick and cable. The setup process was super simple. My Android phone along with google home immediately pickup the speaker as soon as I powered it on and it was ready to play some music, but to get the best music experience I would highly recommend that you download the Sony Music Center App. The application allows you to make changes to the sound, lights, power options, and Bluetooth options. The app also allows you to access your audio inputs, your music library, music streaming applications, and finally your USB music options. Even though you use the speaker without the Music Center App, I would high encourage you to download and use the app to take full advantage of this awesome portable party speaker. Dimensions: Height: 12 inches Width: 22 inches Depth: 11 inches Weight: 21 lbs. Features: IP66 Water-Resistant and Dustproof design: Sony designed this speaker to be used on the go. The speakers mesh is made of water-repellent fabric to keep the water out and easy to wipe off incase it does get wet. X-Balanced Speakers-Sony developed speaker unit allows for powerful bass without distortion or loss of clarity. And let me tell you the bass on this unit is amazing. Guitar Amp-So, this is a pretty cool feature of the SRS-XG500, this unit can also be used as guitar amplifier. The input in the back allows for a guitar, microphone and audio device plug-in. I don’t own a guitar, so I was unable to test out this option. Illumination- The speaker has two color changing ring lights on both bass speakers on the left and right. The lighting was actually perfect for me, its not too much, you can also change the flash pattern or even turn them off completely. USB and Audio plugin options- So, you don’t see these options in a lot of the Bluetooth speaker now a days. The SRS-XG500 allows you to plugin your phone, and you can also charge your phone while its plugged into the speaker, you can plug in a USB memory stick, or even a flash drive. This unit allows for multiple input options. Party Connect- This is actually a pretty neat feature but unfortunately it only works with other Sony speakers. The speaker has an option to allow for Stereo Pair, in which you can connect two of the same speakers and play in stereo mode, or Party Mode, in which you connect multiple, up to 100 devices, to create a party scene. Pros- Easy Carry Handle – Portable, Lightweight Water resistant and Dust proof Multiple Audio Inputs Guitar Amp – For anyone that is able or want to use it as such Amazing sound quality and mega bass option 30 Hour batter life – 10 minutes of charging provides 3 hours of playtime Cons- The only thing I was not happy about with this speaker was the fact that in either party or stereo mode, these speakers only connect to a specific brand. I have tested out other brands as well and they all pretty much do the same exact thing so I can’t blame Sony for doing the same thing but it does start to get pretty annoying. One of the best features one of these speakers could offer was to connect to together any brand device to create a party mode. Overall, Sony has done it again with its SRS-XG500 Portable Party Speaker, its has amazing sound quality, great bass, multiple input options, even the option to be used as a guitar amplifier, and even charging your devices while pumping out some beats. Sony is a known name in the industry to making quality products, so definitely check out this product if you are in the market.

    Big Speaker, Big Sound

The XG500 is a beast of a speaker. Like a 21st century boombox. It puts out a good full sound that’s enough to easily cover a large room or backyard. I always thought the look of Sony’s previous speakers was a bit brash and I appreciate the understated design they went with for this latest speaker. I don’t think it’s for everybody and the sound is even a bit too ‘big’ for me in smaller spaces, but for events and outdoor activities that require a relatively portable sound option I think this ticks all the boxes. To reiterate, this speaker is BIG. It was even bigger than I was expecting just looking at the spec sheet. At 18” long, 8” wide, and 10” tall, it feels like carrying around a small cooler in terms of the volume and weight, but with the built-in handle it’s pretty easy to carry around. It was slightly lighter than I was expecting, but still far from lightweight. It’s covered in a faux fabric material that feels similar to my UE Wonderboom speaker and I like it. It kind of reminds me of a part you’d see on a starship or something; modern, but plain. The light accents on the speaker are a nice touch and not too in your face like I’ve seen on other Sony speakers of the past. The speaker is IP66 rated and feels pretty durable. It’s something that given its cost I will be taking care of as much as I can, but it should be able to withstand dust and splashes without any problems. There’s a rubber gasket around the back that hides the ports and keeps everything sealed up. I’m a little disappointed to see this speaker only charges with the proprietary 20V AC adapter that’s included, but it’s not a dealbreaker by any means. In addition to charging you get a 3.5mm line-in, a mic/guitar input, and 2 USB ports for charging devices (one of them will play audio via USB as well). It’s a great selection of ports and the mic/guitar input is great for events where you need a relatively portable PA speaker. Getting connected was super easy and I got the prompt to pair the speaker on my Pixel’s home screen as soon as it turned on. I have had other Sony speakers that incorporated NFC for pairing, but that appears to have been replaced by Android Fast Pair and I think it’s a lot more reliable anyway (provided you have a phone that supports it). The XG500 supports Sony’s LDAC codec for higher quality audio, which is the case for most of their Bluetooth speakers, but still nice to see again here. Everything is controlled through the same Music Center, which lets you control a few on-device settings like the lighting effects, but in general I don’t think it is necessary to have as most of the important functions are on the speaker itself. Listening to the speaker I’m happy with the sound it puts out. ‘Mega Bass’ is enabled by default when you first power the speaker on and I’ve spent a lot of time toggling between having it off and on and ultimately I think it sounds better with it on, but that’s just my opinion. I wouldn’t call the sound quality audiophile grade or anything, but it sounds really good, especially in open spaces. The details in the tracks I listened to were not lost, though it does seem to emphasize the lower-end more (with or without mega bass). I think that for wide open spaces this seems to be intended for though that it’s well optimized. An in-home speaker this is not. It also gets VERY loud; I never pushed it past 75% volume and even at that level I was really pushing it. The battery life is rated at 30 hours, and for me that more than covers most circumstances where I’d be using this. I actually also have the battery health option enabled in the app that limits charging to 90% capacity to extend the life of the battery. Overall I’m pretty stoked on this speaker. I had the XB60 a few years back that I had similar comments on about the sound quality and didn't like as much in the long run, but I think the XG500 is a major improvement over that in a more portable package. As summer gets into a swing and we can all start to see each other again I’m definitely seeing opportunities to use the XG500 more often.

In all honesty there is not much to say about this speaker, but the few things that one can mention are all pretty good features - You get the Bass, and is crisp. - You get around 30H of battery with fast charging - The speaker has an IP66 rating which is dust/splash proof (not submersible sadly), making it perfect for the beach/tailgate. - The shell is made of high quality plastic with a mesh type fabric protecting the cylinder - On the back you get 2 charging ports that charge @ 5V 1.5A, an AUX port, and a guitar/mic port 9 (really do not why but we will take it) - On the back you also have your party connect, battery, lights, and guitar buttons. (These buttons do pretty basic functions. On the App there are more and better options but the buttons are still nice to have) - Now the App ----At first i was not impressed with what the functions on the actual speaker did, until I installed the App and started going through the settings. On the main screen you get to see the battery percentage and choose from the different types of modes the speaker offers. But once you get to the settings you get your sound, power, and illumination options as well as connectivity and system information. On the Sound tab you get a on/off switch for Sony's EQ ClearAudio+. You also get to create your own EQ enable MEGA BASS (I always have it on), and get to add DJ effects (Insolator, and Flanger). The Power Options tab is what made me like this speaker more than any other in its category. In there you are able to find your Battery info, several power saving options such as STAMINA, and Battery Care (Which will help your battery last way longer by keeping it healthy). You also get switches for sound ques and also stand by modes. On the Illumination tab you get to choose the type of lighting on the speaker, and on the Other settings you get to choose from Sound over connection or prioritize your Bluetooth connections. Overall I was really impressed with the options this speaker has In the App, and also the Sound Quality (specially the Bass). If you are looking for a Party/Tailgate speaker I would highly recommend this one.

Have you ever wanted to literally take the party with you? Sony’s SRS-XG500 portable wireless speaker can make that happen. It lives up to the standards the manufacturer is famous for and then some more! Sony has been making Bluetooth speakers for a while. Besides the thumping bass courtesy of their Extra/Mega Bass (depending on model), they are also renowned for their party lights and party chaining abilities. The SRS-XG500 is part of the brand’s X-Series. It’s a combination of two tweeter (0.98 inches each) and two woofer (4.33 inches each) speaker units enclosed in a water repellent mesh fabric. The unit has an IP66 rating for water resistance and dustproofing. The ports and controls in the rear are protected by a cover that seals them off. It is not waterproof and cannot be immersed in water. You can, however, party in the rain or take it to the beach and not worry. The fabric mesh also appears easy to clean. The power, Bluetooth pairing, play/pause and volume controls are all located on the front of the speaker. The circular led lights are located on either side and produce a rather subtle/subdued effect compared to others. There is also a Mega Bass button to get deeper bass. In the rear, beneath the protective cover are five ports: AC Adapter, two USB Type-A, audio in and a mic/guitar in. the USB ports can also charge a connected device. In addition to the ports, there are also four buttons: Party Connect: Sony’s feature which allows compatible devices to connect so audio can be streamed simultaneously Battery: Provides an audio output of the current battery level Light: Toggles light on/off Guitar: This activates the guitar mode. There is a volume control for the mic/guitar function The biggest selling point to is the ability to take the thumping sound with clear vocals with you. The sound is just as rich outside as inside and the ergonomic handle begs to be held. The Sony Music Center app adds some equalizer settings for your output along with some DJ effects through the Fiestable app. Different lighting options are also available. Battery life is rated for an impressive 30 hours of continuous play but that is obviously based on listening preferences and will vary based on individual use; devices streaming to the speaker will more than likely require charging before the speaker does. Charge from empty is about 3 hours but 10 minutes of charging will also provide 3 hours of playback. To help preserve battery health, the charging capacity can be limited. Party Connect is a feature that allows compatible speakers to play the same content simultaneously. I own other Sony speakers that have this feature labeled as “Party Chain”. In summary, I could not group them with this speaker because they are not “compatible". The good news is that Android OS has a feature by default in the later releases (media panel) that helps overcome this hurdle; I have Android 11 by the way. It basically lets a device connect to two wireless speakers and allow simultaneous streaming. My recommendation to Sony would be to allow their speakers to "play" nicely with each other, regardless of family. Sony’s SRS-XG500 in my opinion is bound to be a favorite as we start venturing outdoors. What better way to do it but with a solid wireless speaker that delivers solid sound regardless of the environment? It is a hit in my books and I highly recommend it.

Whether I’m listening to classical music, rock, or podcasts, everything sounds fantastic. **Battery Life:** The battery life on this speaker is impressive. It easily lasts for hours on a single charge, making it perfect for long trips or extended listening sessions. The fast-charging feature is also a great plus, allowing me to quickly get back to my music when the battery runs low. **Connectivity:** Pairing the speaker with my devices is a breeze, thanks to the seamless Bluetooth connectivity. I am a big fan of SONY Bluetooth speakers and looking for one with a handle for the outdoors and camping. I got a SONY SRS-XG500 speaker as it came with a beautiful handle and excellent specifications. It came with the speaker, power cord, and warranty information. Setup is easy by downloading the Music Center app from the app store on iPhone and connected the speaker via Bluetooth. Also, I have downloaded the Fiestable app, which will control the speaker's lights and allow to play a party playlist. Build quality is outstanding and has buttons for power, Bluetooth, play, pause, volume, and mega bass. However, personal EQ settings can be done via the music center app. It is lightweight and portable. Battery life is great and provides up to 30 hours of playtime. With the quick charge feature, 3 hours of playtime can be achieved with 10 mins of charge. I was using this speaker in camping and large outdoor parties. It is an IP66 water-resistant and dustproof design, the speaker keeps on playing when exposed to water, sand, and dust. The water-repellent mesh fabric makes it easy to clean and dry the outside of the speaker. Smartphones can be plugged into the rear USB ports to play music over a wired connection which is really nice feature. Also, it will charge the phone at the same time. Music can be played in another way by inserting a memory stick or flash drive which is another great feature to play songs where there is no cell phone signal. XG500 can be used as a guitar amp by plug in a guitar via the mic/guitar input in the rear port. The LED ring lighting adds a touch of fun to the music. Sony Music Center app allows controlling the party from the dancefloor, selecting favorite playlists, cueing the next song, changing lighting patterns, and sound modes. I was blown away by the sound quality of this speaker. The X-Balanced Speaker Unit achieves high sound quality and powerful sound pressure for a richer, deeper, more rewarding listening experience. This speaker is waterproof and dustproof. It is the perfect time to use it in the swimming pool during summertime in Arizona. I was playing a song with full sound and fill the entire living room with great sound quality. The ability to connect more than 100 speakers is a great feature and it will help to place speakers in each room. SONY always makes better products in TVs, Cameras and they have entered in audio space with quality products like SRS XG500 Series Bluetooth speakers. Well done SONY and it is another outstanding speaker!

I don't often give 5 stars, but I'm very happy with the features and performance of this portable speaker. Quite literally, I've used it every day while my landscaping crew gets the job done! Bluetooth range is great, sound and bass are full and amazing! The color ring is cool - but obviously in the daylight we don't really notice it. There are many features to take advantage off, the best in my opinion would be the Party Mode (if you have more than one of these or your friends do, you can connect them together for an immersive sound experience) and Guitar Amp - where this device can be used as a guitar amplifier for you or your strumming friends! Also, a 30 hour battery life.....really a must have especially if you want to charge your phone on this bad boy. Lastly, the IP66 Water-resistant and Dustproof Design. Since this is on the job landscaping - you can imagine how important this is. Overall - very pleased and I'm sure you will be too. Even the dog likes it (see pictures) - also showing relation in size to a 70 lb Labrador retriever

Sony is a well known name and they make some very nice products. Their audio devices are no different. As you open the box of the new SRS XG 500, you know you’re in for a treat. This speaker is big and well built, weighing in at just over 12 pounds. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take it places easily. The entire top portion of the speaker is a handle that you can grip with one or both hands if necessary. Once you get the speaker where it’s needed, it’s very easy to connect and play. With Bluetooth 5.0, wireless connections are stable and hold at long distances. If needed, you can play music through the USB-A, Aux, or instrument connection ports on the back. It’s pretty slick that Sony included the instrument connection port so it can be used as a guitar amp. While only the left USB-A port can be used to play music on the speaker, both USB-A ports can be used to charge pretty much any electronic device. Both charge at 2A. This is a must for a portable speaker. The speaker’s IP66 rating keeps it protected from dust, sand, and water (to an extent), making this a perfect pool, beach, and garage-work companion. I personally spilled water on the speaker while I was in the driveway washing my car and it was not a problem whatsoever. The mesh was easy to wipe off so I could keep jamming. The RGB lights are subtle, but really fun. Definitely best in low light conditions when you’re partying with friends. The way the lights cycle can be changed in the Sony Music Center app. An issue that I’ve had with portable speakers in the past is sound quality diminishing with an increase in volume. The SRS XG 500 does not have this problem. Even at maximum volume, I never notice any distortion in sound quality. And the Mega Bass button gives you a little extra thump. It’s an experience. I love how easily this speaker can fill an entire space with loud, clear jams. You’ll have no shortage of music either with a 30 hour playback time and quick charge that provides 3 hours of playback time with a quick 10 minute charge. All in all, the Sony SRS XG 500 does come with a premium price tag, but that's because you're getting a premium portable product with incredible sound quality and some bells and whistles too. Despite it’s lame name, this is a speaker I'd highly recommend you pick up in preparation for all the time you're about to spend outside this summer.

I tend to be pro Sony with a lot of my tech and this speaker didn’t disappoint. The XG500 is an excellent speaker for at home or on the go. I’ve used it at home in the back yard, at the park, in a noisy warehouse, and at the beach. Connects easily through Bluetooth. Set up is virtually non-existent aside from the aforementioned Bluetooth connection. Speaker was ready out of the box. I absolutely love it. Has that signature Sony feel and quality in my opinion. I’ve gotten many compliments on it’s look and sound. While it does get very loud, it looks as though it should and could be louder. In that respect I wish it was. Just a hair. This is me nitpicking though as it is plenty loud. Sound is clear, bass is smooth and deep. Battery life is exceptional. I’ve used it for at least 2-4 hours or more a couple of times and didn’t need to recharge it. It is on the large side and a rather heavy for a portable speaker. While some might not like it’s weight, it does not bother me. Somehow it makes it feel more quality. Still, it definitely is on the heavy side. It made of a hard durable plastic. Most of its surface is wrapped in some sort of fabric. Maybe canvas like material? Not sure, but it seems super strong and durable. No complaints. Sony has two apps that you can download. One that controls basic functions (eq, volume, etc…). There’s a second app that acts more like dj and has some neat party features. Overall it’s an excellent speaker. Price is a little high, but seems competitive in it’s segment, if not cheaper in many instances. I would definitely recommend.

VERY impressed with this speaker! We use it outside and I cannot believe the amount and quality of sound it produces! I was very skeptical, especially, of the bass but it was tremendous...absolutely impressed! It was also very easy to link with our various devices. The battery life has proven to be outstanding as well...we've used it for an entire day on the water at the lake - a full 8ish hours - and it was still going. It's not lightweight, but it's not obtrusive, either. We could care less about the flashing lights, but that's cool if you like it. Can't really comment on the range of the BT as we never got the source far from the speaker. Overall, I couldn't recommend this speaker more highly.

Very awesome! Love that the side woofer vibrates with loud bass! Charges easily, and charge last a long time, great highs and lows in sound, and has pretty lights. Also handle is makes carry it easy, but it is heavy maybe 15 lbs

I'm very impressed with the ergonomics of this Sony Srsxg500 as well with the sound quality and features it has. I've been using it in my house when I don't want to fire up the home theatre and it's a joy more then enough to entertain. Tried it outside and very pleasantly surprised how good the base and sound quality is. Been playing all kind of genres music. Battery life is great 30hr of playing plus you get 2 usb ports to charge other devices in case of emergency or to play content of them. Also you get Party connect, Lights, Mic/Guitar port . Great companion that will bring any party to life. So if you are on the market for a portable great speaker this is the One! Ps: it's ip66 rated ... great near pools or on the beach
