I have owned Sony phones over the years and bought a Samsung 21S ultra because Sony did not have a 5G phone at the time. I can say from experience, cameras on Sony phones are better.

I was very apprehensive about buying my first unlocked phone. Heat issues and connectivity with Verizon we're issues I came across when reading reviews. Now that I have the phone all I can do is praise the phone. I simply swapped my sim card and the phone connected to Verizons network with no issues. Phone itself is top quality. Runs smooth, build quality is superior, audio/video are worth the investment. I don't review normally, usually over critical... This phone is awesome!

Nice phone but need some improvements
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got mixed feeling about this phone and in my opinion it has some good and some bad things Let’s start with good things. I love design and size. Design is great, clean matte black finishing on the back which is pretty much resistible to all fingerprints and all the buttons on one side of the phone is again nice touch. Decided but pretty discrete physical shutter button for the camera makes camera access quick and snapping the multiple pictures has never been easier. Size wise it’s great in both matters as screen experience and handling device with one hand. Very thin phone and feels great in the hand. Unusual device size ratio will take time to get used it, but once you do it’s very hard to go back to other “ordinary size” phones. Amazing OLED screen with 4K resolution (120hz, 21:9 wide display) makes this phone really standing out and it’s a pleasure to use it (I truly enjoy watching the movies on this screen). Screen brightness is unlike anything I seen on any device before, and it rocks while used outside in daylight/sunlight. Clean Android software is another positive thing and all preinstalled apps will be pretty much used, no junk in there. Triple lens camera, each in 12PM are designed that each of them has certain “zoom” by the default while last one of them has optical zoom. Camera with optical zoom is where I am having split mind, yes it’s great but you will not get much use from it without tripod unless you have a crazy steady hands, and I don’t. Pictures and videos are different from any other devices I used, with colors being more realistic, at least in 90% of the pictures/videos taken. Plenty of storage, 512GB with possible extension which I will mention later. Phone response is amazing, it runs crazy fast with no lags whatsoever regardless how many apps do you have opened, thanks to 12GB RAM. Two front facing speakers will give you amazing experience while watching videos or listening music. Micro SD card support up to 1TB expendable storage beats anyone else on the market and it does have good old regular headphone jack. Phone is both dust and water resistant which I believe Sony is leader in making those. Fingerprint reader on power button works surprisingly, impressive without any errors or failures. All of this with great battery life which charges pretty fast, even with 20W USB type C charger from Insignia I am using. Phone is very light at least for me since I had used Apple phones for years. Bad things for me at least are, for one devices does not come with power brick or power cord either. Phone does periodically get hot, especially while shooting a larger 4K videos, and once that happens it will start closing the applications. Other huge thing is the quality of voice calls. I am getting lots of complaints from people at other side of the line about voice quality, and it gets even worse if I use it on speakerphone. Video calls are lagging video feed (tested on snapchat and viber) compared to my other phones, even when connected to WiFi. Hopefully future software updates will resolve quality of voice calls because this is a huge deal since this a primary a phone, and just for reference I am using T-Mobile 5G network. I like the photo and video features and options, they are great and phone is rich with them, but I don’t like the fact that I have to use 3 different applications in order to use everything that this camera offers. Android OS used be very customizable system and I am surprised that in this case I cannot even change the font type, so not cool. Light sensor does not work as it should, I had few cases when I kept phone at my ear, screen light was coming on and off and I accidentally pressed screen with my ear and changed few setting – once even enabled airplane mode and got disconnected. Again may be something software update can fix it but at this moment is not as it should be. SIM tray cover seems to be wiggly after just one pulling out and one side of cover is sticking out of line little bit, which kind of bothers me but I did get a protective case which covers that. From initial boot up it was already running a little warm. The phone felt a little hot after recording a 4k video for a few minutes. I was really hopeful to use the phone as an external monitor for my Sony FX3, but the external monitor app would crash each time I would record video on the FX3. Maybe a future update would fix the issue. But for now, I couldn't justify keeping the phone.
