High specced budget phone with shortcomings

I purchased this phone as a cheap alternative to my normal high end daily driver. It's a well designed phone with some muscle that has some quite major issues that are hard to look past. When you first turn this phone on you immediately notice the nice sharp and colorful screen. Sign into Google, accounts and Sony Xperia services and you're treated to some great software and features. Current OS and Sony specific themes are a nice bonus. Once you are all set up and start running a handful of apps, you'll quickly see some shortcomings. I was unfortunately hampered by major stuttering and freezing while switching apps and a very heated back panel after gaming or using the camera for over 2 minutes. Then to top it off, I noticed the battery was under 40 % after just a couple hours of use. I soon realized that this phone would not make it through a normal day. Photos were subpar but about what you would expect for sub 300 dollars, charging was slow and overall performance left a lot to be desired, especially considering that this device benchmarked very high. In the end it's tough to recommend a phone that has core issues like this--there really was a lot to like otherwise. But you would definitely be better off spending another hundred dollars and grabbing something from a higher tier or hopping down to a Sony T2 Ultra for less money, a bigger screen and snappier 2D performance.

I read the reviews before purchasing. But this phone doesn't live up to the hype. My pictures aren't impressive. Every time I turn off the phone the sound settings go back to default. Sound settings especially bother me.

possibly the worst of the cell phones I have bought, very nice and with a provocative price, but it has been a torture since I bought it, it works badly, it constantly resets, they do not listen to me when I call. horrible.Important ah, the customer service department of sony completely inoperative and useless.

This phone is an expensive paper weight. No longer work after 6 months of purchase, keep saying "No Service" (a known issue for Sony phones) even though I tried everything to troubleshoot it. I would rated a 0 star, keep away from SONY phones!

I bought this on sale which is within my price range. Nice Camera.... Size is litter bigger but acceptable. I did not check its performance yet but hope will be good. It accept NANO Size SD card. if you have micro SD, you need to either cut into NANO SD or contact your Mobile service to fine the new one for free. This is not the issue because All the new cell phone devices are thick and use the nano sd card.

I love this phone. I was a bit hesitant about the mediatek processor but it performs very well, in fact I would put this phone's performance on the same level as my previous Samsung Galaxy S5. It is fast & responsive and I haven't experienced any lag on this device at all. The screen is really the highlight of this device. I was really surprised to find it is a full HD with great viewing angles at this price. The photos from the rear camera are excellent for a phone camera. I haven't tried the front camera, I'm not really one for selfies. All in all, I highly recommend this phone!

    Decent Quality on a Budget

The phone has an octa-core processor, 2gb ram...Yada Yada. Let's discuss details, hopefully without boring you. The octa-core on paper seems nice, but the mediatek chipset along with slow clock speed makes the device chug or lag at times. I give this aspect a 3/5 The screen size, along with the full 1080p resolution provides crisp, clear videos provided the quality of the content. There are settings to give the videos a more Sony Bravia feel. 5/5 The 16GB internal memory and 2GB of Ram are less complaints and more frustrating due to the Android operating system itself, as loading multiple apps will both slow down and fill up your device quickly. 4/5 The picture quality leaves me wondering why this was marketed as a...selfie device. It's slow to capture, frustrating, and I just can't imagine taking many pictures on it. But, nonetheless, its adequate by general phone camera standards I believe. 3/5 Finally, the provided software by Sony. The icing on the cake would have been providing access to PS Remote Play, instead of whatever ps screen sharing app is provided. The other software provided is neat, no real complaints. Again, if remote play had be provided as a standard (really for any Sony tablet/phone), it would have been given a 5/5. However, 4/5 seems sufficient. In a pinch, this is a good budget smart phone. With some research, one may find a more reliable, stabile cell phone in the same price range. Not disappointed, but not overly excited. The battery life is one major component of any cell phone. The battery provided seems rather small for the size of the device, given the 1080p resolution and octa-core processor. I use the features that drain the battery slowest, giving me half of a day of solid use (videos, games, etc). Charging the device to full capacity usually takes around 2 hours for me. Can't really compare to other devices, so i'll give this a 4/5.

    Excellent mid-range phone

I've owned several Xperias over the years and have never been let down by build quality or software experience, and this time is no different. This is a sturdy yet light polycarbonate phone with a large screen. Everything feels tight - no loose buttons, or strange gaps. The Sony version of Android has very little customization, but it's really just a skin over a mostly-stock version of Android. This phone is at 5.0 Lollipop with a future 6.0 Marshmallow update already announced. Performance is about what I would expect for a mid-range device. If you're looking for flagship performance you'd be better served with a Z series Sony. Call quality is excellent, and the built-in "answering machine" is nice if you don't have visual voicemail. Camera quality is pretty good - probably what one should expect in this price range. Sony adds some nice convenience touches via software with apps like Smart Connect. It would be nice if it was water and dust resistant like the M4 Aqua, but you get better camera performance as a trade off. Compared to similarly priced devices I'd choose this phone again. Sony's track record for updates is great, and the C4 raw hardware specs put it at the top end of the mid-range.

This is a great phone considering the price! However the Sony security feature for the unlocked phone can be quite troublesome! The Xperia security feature that locks the phone up when someone tries to replace the sim or unlock the phone from a carrier or tries to make unauthorized changes, locates the device if it's lost... which is a good thing! However the one from Best buy is already unlocked and the Sony security software has been causing some of the phones to be bricked...aka unusable!!! I would advise you not to set up the Sony security features and use other security systems to secure your phone! Once it bricks the only way to get it repaired is to send it in to Sony and if it's covered under warranty they will repair it...if not it will come out of your pocket! Look up "my xperia protected" for a better explanation....I still recommend it!!

I went in looking for the Moto X Pure Edition but they didn't have any and I decided on getting this. For $275, this is a phenomenal value. Fast, thin, light, big screen, good cameras, works on MetroPCS (just have to easily adjust apn settings). I'm happy I bought this device. It may be the second phone I keep for a full year!

This phone is an excellent purchase. The phone is fast and reliable, even when its handling multiple apps at once. It will get hot at times, but its nothing major. Even if you use it all day like I do, you'll rarely run out of battery. The screen is a beautiful thing to marvel at. When I first got it, I could not believe how such an HD screen was equipped in this $300 smartphone. Everything looks so much better and its pleasant using the phone. Sony's skin of Android Lollipop is personally the best one. It gives the Xperia C4 a unique experience that offers more personalization and a more sophisticated OS. As for the camera, you get what you pay for. Its certainly not bad; quality is adequate at first glance. But despite its 13 megapixel shooter, the detail of the camera is just not what you're going to find in what you would see in the Xperia Z3. You can somewhat compare it to the camera of the iPhone 4. The front facing camera is above average, especially when using the flash. Overall, this truly is a bargain for what you pay for and I would most definitely recommend it to anyone in search of quality at a bargain.

My wife and I were looking to upgrade our terrible older phones when we stumbled on this phone. We didn't want to fork over the massive loads of cash for the typical Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phones, and we had heard Sony actually makes decent phones (though not popular here in the States). Well, I must say I am glad we bought these phones. They are absolutely fantastic. Very fast and smooth (thanks to the nice processor) and the screen is unbelievable. The android software running on these phones is just great and makes for very smooth and easy navigation. The cameras are GREAT. There are too many things to say about this phone in a little review, so go try it for yourself. You won't be disappointed. VERY surprised how much we like this phone. Good job, Sony.

    sony Xperia C4 is Great!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I wanted a phone with high storage memory for music. The iPhone 6 with internal memory was ridiculously expensive. After research I decided on Xperia Z3, but Best Buy ran out. I tried the C4 and have been delighted. SONY apps for contacts, music and photo transfers worked flawlessly. I had no problem using their software to convert fIles from ios to Android. BRAVIA HD screen resolution on the C4 is far superior to Apple iPhone or IPad. Music storage with an external 128 gb micro chip is great. I didn't want to store anything on the cloud--- why rely on Apple or others to keep stuff safe when it isn't necessary? The C4 camera has fewer megapixels than the Xperia Z3, but is still so good that the difference is lost on me. FINALLY, this phone has miracast, which permits photos to be thrown wirelessly to our Bravia TV. SONY software digitally cleans up old black and white photos wonderfully. I don't normally write reviews, but have been so pleased with the C4!

I bought this phone for my wife after researching so many other phones as this was the best one to get for my wife with perfect pricing and amazing features for the price paid. It has awesome screen resolution and great video and audio clarity. The processor is really good with terrific speed especially on wifi networks. I really loved this phone in terms of the weight, features and the price. I would recommend this phone strongly if you want to experience really good audio and video with great calling features without any noise. Go... get one!!!
