    3 THERMAL SHUTDOWN IN 15 MONTHS….

    Posted .

I have bought HP SPECTRE x360 (11.3 inch) last year. Not only the quality of this notebook is poor 1. I had 3 thermal shutdowns since last year. It gets heated and shuts down it self and restart with message on screen that it had a thermal shutdown since temperature reached 92. End result several files that were open while shutdown happened has been lost. 2. In addition to thermal shutdown, Its get extremely hot several times, that I have to close it might pick fire or I will lose my data. 3. The touchpad (laptop's built-in mouse) is horrible. Takes you left most of time when you wanna go right, its “right click” side is not properly functioning. When you click on left side to open a file or work it activates right click so you rather start looking at “properties” instead of opening the file. 4. Has been a mayhem since I bought it. Its embarrassing to present presentations on it since the left click is mostly right click. 5. Absolute waste of 1306$. Regret buying HP over other, none of my colleagues have same problems coz they don’t use HP.

    Beware

The product itself is good. But you never just buy a product when you buy a computer, you also buy into the company because inevitably, there will be an issue and you will likely have to rely upon the company to provide you with some service on the machine. And therein lies the huge problem. HP's customer service is ATROCIOUS -- infuriatingly atrocious. Along with the product, I bought the 3 year extended warranty. There was an email from HP, asking me to provide my laptop's identifying information in order to activate the HP Care Pack. I sent 3 separate emails (replying to HP's original email) providing the information requested. After checking after each email to see whether the Care Pack was activated (it never was), I placed a call to HP. It not only took 3 emails but also multiple telephone calls which totaled about 2.5 hours(!!!!!!!!!!) to get the Care Pack activated. Keep in mind -- the Care Pack was NOT free. I paid a nice substantial sum for the service. After 2.5 hours of calls, I was pretty upset and asked them to escalate the Complaint (oh and yes there were other problems with the machine straight out of the box which required a reset to factory settings on the DAY that I received the computer). I was promised multiple calls back (I even selected the time for the callbacks!) and never received one callback EVER until it was escalated a couple of times. The worst is when I was promised that one of the escalated complaint managers would call me back within 24 hours and it took a WEEK for my call to be returned. And that representative/manager ("Katie") was the one who misrepresented what the proper time for a callback from HP is (24-48 hours from the Complaint being made according to her Supervisor "Rayna"). They have provided nothing but apologies and they will 100% blame another HP departments or the prior representatives for not correctly doing their jobs. Which would be funny, except it's not after you've spent more than 3 hours dealing with an issue that should have been resolved by one reply email (unencrypted and simple text response) to their own email to you to activate a warranty that cost a couple of hundred dollars. It's not funny at all. It's absolutely infuriating. So before you purchase any HP product, ask yourself this -- are you willing to put up with abysmal customer service when your computer inevitably has a problem? And then take a look at Apple again, because the price point really isn't that different. I am still deciding whether or not I want to return the product. I'm torn because I do like the product but I HATE the company.

I had an overheat from day one. STEP 1. Spend a few hours with a tech department trying to fix the problem. STEP 2. Finally sent to HP to fix the problem. STEP 3. Next months used laptop no more than 5 times and always had the same problem - overheat. STEP 4. Finally called support, the same story - hours with the tech department. STEP 5. Still, have the same problem. But! We the warranty meanwhile expired. I had an offer from tech dep to send computer one more time to HP and pay 320$ . WHY???

Malfunctioning parts in a little over a year

Great laptop in terms of use however after less than a year of using it, the battery is dying and every time I start up my computer it shows a black screen telling me to replace my battery. The rubber stoppers on the bottom of the laptop has all fallen off. The delete key on the keyboard is in the midst of falling off despite never being used. The USB PORT!!! no longer works properly. It keeps connecting and disconnecting my mouse to the point where it is useless. Very disappointing that I spent 1,200 for this laptop to have parts breaking down and malfunctioning in this manner.

    Poor quality

The first day I got mine the speakers were not working properly, so I went back to exchange it for a another one and the laptop has the same issue. The speakers are a CONSTANT problem and I have yet to figure out how to fix it. The fan is always extremely loud even with minimal programs running. For how much this laptop costs I feel like I wasted my money.

Would be great if it didn't crash

As someone who uses the computer/laptop/tablet for everything, I find the HP Spectre x360 as a whole decent except for a major issue or major issues: the keyboard keeps on crashing on me, the touch screen doesn't always work and changing to and fro from tablet to desktop or vice versa is a challenge. The conversion factor "2-in-1" serves as a great alternative to buying a tablet if the conversion don't have so many glitches.

Such a simple oversight makes unit unpleasant

I was satisfied with the unit until I used it in low light. The keyboard backlight is either on or off via a button. Really bright with no backlight brightness adjust while on. In low light the key to turn on backlight is not illuminated and very hard to see. Such a basic issue overlooked in a design. For me this issue is a deal breaker. Next candidate!

    New Computer Want Charge

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have only had my computer 2 weeks and used it twice. I tried to charge it and it failed to charge. Nothing on the computer worked. I called HP customer service who wasn't helpful, but on their customer support forum several people had reported this same problem. It appears HP has known about this problem for years. Several people reported this issue occurring months after having this computer. Mine occurred within weeks. This problem has been attributed to faulty mother boards or power cords. The cost associated to repair this problem was expensive too. I will be returning this product to Best Buy and not sure if I will every buy another HP. I was excited about this computer and its features, but disappointed with the known charging issue and longevity of this product.

    Battery expanded, ruining the case

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Have loved this laptop since purchasing in 8/2015, but we use it plugged in most of the time. HP Support explained that is what has caused the battery to degrade and expand, causing the case and keyboard to bow and bulge (lid won't close any longer). If parts are available we can get it repaired for $650. This seems like a design flaw to me, and a potential fire hazard.

    Touchpad Broken

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bought this laptop tonight and the touchpad was broken out of the box. Both left click and right click on the touchpad would not work at least half the time. The mouse pointer would also stop moving or erratically jump all over the page. Bought it tonight, returning it tomorrow. Don't waste your money.
