I bought this game mostly because I hope my nephews will enjoy playing. This is a third-person shooter with ingenious gameplay keeping with other Nintendo titles. I haven't used the voice chat app but the single player game doesn't need it. I only wish two players could use a split screen.

Most popular games these days are military-type shooters that are completely inappropriate for children. No, I'm not being overly sensitive. I just don't want my children being brainwashed into believing that people killing each other is okay. Fantasy, on the other hand, is much easier to explain to them and makes more sense because it's creative and uses imagination; which is exactly how most, if not all, children are. Anyway, I myself (29) have enjoyed this game a ton and my children have as well. My son is still too young for video games (3 1/2) but, since he watches me play and his big sister play, and he has occasional turns to roam around, it's a colorful visual for him. My daughter (8 1/2) has had a blast leveling up playing online and completing the missions in the campaign. She naturally doesn't enjoy gore and violence and does enjoy colorful, messy fun so this is a good fit for her. As are many Nintendo games. I know how children in elementary schools like to talk about "owning each other" online and other absurdities that they talk about, almost as if they're skipping their young years to jump straight into rude, obnoxious teens. So, since my daughter doesn't know what all their lingo means, she'll at least be able to relate to the teamwork, aiming, strategy, etc. aspects of shooting games (and probably school some of them lol). Nintendo, once again, has done an amazing job with what they put out there and whom it's directed towards. It's fun and challenging enough for experienced gamers and not ridiculously difficult for beginners. The lack of multiplayer (more than 1 player playing on the same console) doesn't take anything away from Splatoon. It lets the player focus and improve gradually while having some good-natured fun. Leave it to other awesome games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, (future) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, (future) Super Mario Party, among others, to satisfy your multiplayer gaming needs. This game and the other content that Nintendo puts out only proves that Nintendo, as a company, and the Nintendo Switch are not full of gimmicks. It's the clear obvious choice for FUN compared to Sony and Microsoft. They're innovative and they're here to stay. All while providing super fun content for all ages.

It's everything the original was but better. Nintendo has learned a lot and made significant changes. Almost all the special abilities from splatoon 1 have been replaced with new ones. The game now feels tighter and more team based with less emphasis on getting splats (kills). You'll do much better working together than trying to be a one man army. New modes like league battles let you team up with friends. Salmon run is horde mode co-op for rewards. There's an online app that shows the upcoming schedule for battles, shows your stats, and even let's you shop for gear online for your inkling. Voice chat is now an option (but Is unfortunately complex). It also has a single player campaign revolving around the disappearance of Callie from splatoon 1. Last but not least, at least two years of splatfests. This is easily one of the best games available for the switch. If you like multiplayer shooters and you're a Nintendo fan, this is as good as it gets.

Splatoon 2, just like Splatoon before it on Wii U, and a fun and totally positive multiplayer shooter. You will get more of your fun playing online with others, but unlike the first game, Splatoon 2 makes local multiplayer with others who own the game much easier. The game is also non-violent and mostly inoffensive, making it suitable for all ages as long as they are able to grasp the game's mechanics. It has a great sense of humor and ensures a fun time for every player. It makes it easy to learn and eases new players into the game through it's gradual progression system from the online mode as well as an offline single player mode complete with a story of battling evil octopus creatures meant to slowly introduce new players to the game's mechanics, but it is fun to play through even for those who already have a decent grasp on the game. This is one of the best games currently available on Nintendo Switch

Loved Splatoon 2, one of my friends recommended this game and I'm enjoying this a lot. It's very different from other shooting games because the objective is NOT to kill people, but to get the most territory for your team. I started out as level one while everyone was like level 70 which I thought was going to be an issue cause everyone seemed to have very highleveled equipment, but it all focused more on teamwork, so I was winning a lot of the matches for at least the one I focus on for territory (I learned the hard way that killing really does not mean anything) My biggest complaint is that there is no split screen. I saw this complaint a lot and I did buy this expecting no split screen. As I played it more, I was more perplexed on why there was no split screen since even Mario kart deluxe has a 2 player mode split screen online. I give it a 4 because I'm sure most parents want to play this with their kids and are expecting split screen and I don't see why they couldn't do it; however, other than that. The game was a lot of fun. Even the first player mode was a lot of fun, will be looking out to play the dlc for the game.

Know going into this review that I've enjoyed the time I've put into the game so far. I'm about Level 8 online and made it through a few worlds of the single player levels. All that was extremely fun, enough to sway my opinion to four stars. What keeps this game from 5 stars in the asinine way Nintendo handles it's online modes. Only certain modes are available at random times rather than open all the time for no reason. I can't easily join with friends to play online; during the Mayo vs Ketchup Splatfest I tried joining with my only other friend who has the game at the moment and we couldn't play because we needed two more people. On top of that, the way Nintendo implemented voice chatting through a separate phone app just doesn't work out conviently as it only works in ONE and ONLY ONE specific mode with friends rather than letting you talk to anyone in any mode that happens to turn on voice chat. I'll enjoy the online experience for now, but when Nintendo launches the paid version of online this better be completely overhauled because I'm not going to pay for a service that doesn't work out easily. I'm going to say I'm not recommending this game to a friend YET. If Nintendo fixes the online since this is touted as an online game, then get the game. Until then, hold off and wait. That said, I've mostly just played Turf Wars and enjoyed just popping in and playing a few matches from time to time. I just wish I could actually coordinate with my teammates.

I am never good at FPS games, so I have stopped playing these type of games for a while. But after I played the demo, I found that this is a bit different. So I gave it a try and bought it. And I found that I didn't make a wrong decision. The control is easy to pick up, especially with the use of the motion sensors now I don't have to rely on the analog stick to aim, which I am bad at. The game modes are fun, and it is not just a plain point and shoot game. You can still win by shooting around the environment. Although this is a multiplayer online game, there actually isn't much wait time between each game. And with the fact that it is on a switch, it is very portable. I can play one or two games whenever i got a chance and wherever I am as long as I have internet connection. For a person who is not a fan of FPS, I am totally addicted to it.

I played the original when it launched on Wii U and the new entry had been building hype for a while. It doesn't disappoint and improves in a lot of great ways. Visually it now runs at up to 1080p but at a locked 60fps docked and then 720p/60fps in handheld, the original ran at 720p/60fps. The lighting, texturing and effects are also better. The single player mode has also been improved with more levels of varied difficulty and items. The addition of Salmon Run is a welcome defense against waves of enemies game. The single player game performs great with a mix of new stages and remixed retro (2015) stages. The new weapons like the Splat Duelies are great and feel good when playing. And just like the original game the promise of future free content is a welcome one that Nintendo didn't fail to deliver with on the first game.

For those who missed out on Splatoon on the Wii U, Splatoon 2 is a must have. For those that played the first game, you pretty much know what to expect. Splatoon 2 is a refinement of the first game, better visuals, more balanced multiplayer, a new single player campaign that is still as inventive and fun as the first game's, plus a new co-op mode and the promise of lots of post launch support like the first game received. It's nice to see this franchise continue on the Switch. There are still odd decisions like with the way the co-op mode is only available at certain times, and the maps are still on a periodic rotation or 2-4 hours. I think the 2 player couch mode isn't in this game, but admittedly, I never played that in the first game. This game is a must have for Switch owners.

An extremely addicting game and fantastic addition to the Nintendo Switch. My only gripes are there's no split screen on the same console, even if you're playing it docked. You need an app for your phone for voice chat, which is... dumb. And joining a friend's game doesn't necessarily put you on the same team. It gets high marks for everything else.

A lot like Splatoon 1, but with a new story mode that allows you to use 9 different weapons in each stage and a new horde mode, Salmon Run. If you never played the first, then it's a must-buy. If you played the first one and liked it, then you will like this too, and it's worth the upgrade. If you didn't like the first one, then the second one won't change your mind. It's not quite Splatoon Deluxe IMO, as I do think it adds enough new content to be a competent sequel. The single player lasts about 7 hours through the first play-through, and then you can go back and replay all the levels with the different weapons, which adds some time too. The bulk of your time will be spent on online-multiplayer. I expect to get several hundred hours out of this title, let alone 60.

I absolutely adore what this game is about and what it has to offer. The game's world and appearance is very colorful and rich in contrast, it attracts the eyes of all audiences. The single player mode offers a solid and satisfying experience that captures interests in the game's lore and story. Where this game really shines though is in its multiplayer. With a large variety of weapons, selection of maps and multiplayer modes, the multiplayer experience for an individual can be a fun and challenging experience. The added feature of an online co-op multiplayer mode is a wonderful addition to the game and a pleasant surprise that I didn't see coming with the game. This game and what it has to offer is a must for any Nintendo Switch console owner.

Splatoon 2 is nintendo's spin on a competitive shooter. It's a game with good old nintendo style charm . Bright colors and cutesy characters are all around. There is some hidden dark themes in this game but they are meant to go over the average person's head. This game is very much fun an addicting as there is a cooperative online 4 player mode and a 4 vs 4 player online competitive mode to complement that single player story mode. The game also features frequent updates and monthly events that gives players ingame prizes to participate or win. There is a lot of customization for your created character from the clothes to even the type and color of your chosen splat weapon. Overall Splatoon 2 is a must have for Nintendo Switch owners

WOW. I was not expecting to love this game this much. I'm a big shooter fan and didn't expect this game to hold my attention like it has been. Now, don't go into this game thinking it's your standard shooter ala Call of Duty or Halo, no, this game is all about coverage. Your ink coverage that is. Shooting walls, floors, and yes even enemies. The team who covers the most area of the map wins. It took a while to adjust to not solely focusing on shooting other players in multiplayer but once you find your groove you're golden. The single player campaign is also fantastic and a real mix of shooting/puzzle solving. The co-op Salmon Run mode...AWESOME. Love this game. It hasn't left my switch since I picked it up.

You don't need to have played Splatoon 1 to enjoy the story of Splatoon 2 (mostly because there isn't much of a story). The campaign is fairly short, but enjoyable with new weapons and mechanics being thrown at your continuously as your progress through the stages. The meat of the game is in the online play. Nintendo did a great job supporting Splatoon 1 on the WIi U with new weapons, maps, and content and I have full faith that they will support Splatoon 2 throughout it's life on the Switch. Having to use a secondary phone app is a nuisance in order to party up with friends or use voice chat, so it shows that Nintendo hasn't really improved their online infrastructure, but it's workable.

A great game for those looking to take advantage of the Nintendo Switch's online functions. Compete in 8-player 4v4 Turf Wars, 4-player co-op in the form of Salmon Run (an addictive yet challenging boss rush) and share your thoughts with the Miiverse-like post feature. Tablet mode recommended for drawing. Splatoon 2 also includes a single player campaign. It was, initially, a factor in my purchase, seeing as I am not the biggest fan of online multiplayer. I wanted a single player experience to fall back on between other game modes. I can't speak for those that owned the first game in the series, but if you own a Nintendo Switch and love competitive multiplayer, this one's a solid choice.

Fans of the original will love this new installment in the Splatoon series, as it has everything that made the first game great and then adds even more content for hours of fun. The single player mode has been improved so that there is definitely more to do, though the biggest part of the game comes from the online multiplayer. The motion controls take some getting used to, though you can choose to play without them if you want, but the matches themselves are a lot of fun, as it adds the Nintendo touch to the genre of third person shooters. There's always plenty to do, and the thriving community that has grown out of this game is amazing. Definitely a must buy

In Splatoon 1, there were a lot of Specials that felt really unfair to deal with (Kraken, Bubbler, Inkzooka, Echolocator, certain Bomb Rushes). In this sequel, the Specials aren't nearly as strong which is great because it's less infuriating when you get killed by them. I'm still working my way through the single player but it seems to be more fun or just as fun as the first game. Salmon Run is also a fun and welcome addition. More games need to have that Left 4 Dead kind of co-op mode. If you've never played the first Splatoon on the Wii U, give this second game a shot because they really refined that core gameplay of being a squid and a kid.
