We're sorry to hear that your son isn't that impressed with State of Decay 2 yet. The good news is that there are quite a few vehicles in the game, but some may need to be repaired and refueled before they can be driven. One tip for finding vehicles is to go to a lookout tower and survey the area for ones that can be used.

I expected this to fix them. It sort of did but then added in a bunch of new ones. Coming off of a different type of game that really knocked it out of the park this just ended up falling flat for me and I haven’t picked it up again since.

You may be glad to know that the developers have been working hard to deliver bug fixes, gameplay tune-ups, and quality-of-life improvements to the game, and there have been three patches so far. Hopefully they've addressed some of the issues you experienced.

I was expecting more open world co-op split screen action in this game and instead got faced with a very predictable and often limited style of game play, which got boring pretty darn fast.
