First SteelSeries Mouse - Love it!

Love this mouse! Was so happy to find one of these still since they were sold out on the SteelSeries website. It's super lightweight and responsive, plus the color customization is diverse and adds a little extra to my gaming experience.

I love this mouse. Looks rad. Light weight. Charges fast. Holds a charge a long time. Worst part is the skates on the bottom aren't very thick so if your mouse pad isn't super clean it tells you.

Scroll wheel breaks after a few months

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

These are generally great mice, but SteelSeries seems to have a particular problem with their scroll wheel encoders, causing their scroll wheels to become less and less usable within a few months of normal usage. The wheel will start scrolling the other direction every few clicks (like if you scroll down ten notches, it’ll randomly jump back up 2 or 3 notches) and it makes both work and gaming very difficult on these mice. At first I thought it was just my particular unit, but after it happened to both my SteelSeries mice (this one and a Rival 3 Wireless), I found numerous other user reports about this happening across many of their models: https://old.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/zyh8c5/aerox_3_mouses_scroll_wheel_is_acting_up_any/ https://old.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/18rqxr5/aerox_scroll_wheel_issues/ https://old.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/13wdz5t/steelseries_aerox_mouse_scroll_wheel_scrolling_up/ https://old.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/zhnbwp/scroll_wheel_issue_on_mice/ https://old.reddit.com/r/MouseReview/comments/1jeyx56/aerox_9_replacement_scroll_wheel_issues/ And here’s a person who fixed the problem only by swapping out the encoder hardware: https://old.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/1jde821/fixing_aerox_9_scroll_jumping/ Their RMA/repair process is terrible (requiring you to physically destroy the mouse by ripping off its buttons, creating e-waste in the process). Although I love their mice otherwise, this is a big deal IMHO because the mice are basically unusable after a few months :( I hope they will use better parts in their future revisions. It's otherwise a great mouse.

I like the mouse. The steel series software is nice. The mouse fits in my hand and is comfortable, I have small hand so to find a gaming mouse that fits in my hand is hard to find. The mouse is also very lightweight. 5 stars

I love the smoothness of this mouse. I’ve been hoarding mice for years. I’ve owned wired gaming mice. This is my first wireless one and honestly I love it.

    Cool mouse… when it works

I’ve had this mouse for about a year and i have come across a multitude of problems such as: the bottom side button not working (you have to press it hard and most times it’ll register as if you’ve clicked it twice). It randomly disconnects while I’m using it on wireless mode and takes about 30 seconds to reconnect at times. And the software to change the LED lights doesn’t work. I tried to keep all my LED purple but this thing doesn’t care and just uses the default LED of rainbow toggling. So yeah for $100 i wouldn’t recommend it. Do yourself a favor and buy something else.

    Disappointing experience

    Posted .

I purchased the Aerox 3 wireless mouse from Best Buy a year ago, and unfortunately, my experience with this product has been far from satisfactory. Despite the positive reviews it received, I found it to be underwhelming compared to other mice I've used, including a budget-friendly $20 wireless mouse. One of the major drawbacks of the Aerox 3 mouse is its battery life. While it initially claimed to offer 80 hours of usage on the 2.4GHz connection, this deteriorated rapidly over time. After just a year of usage, the mouse barely lasts an hour on a single charge. This significant decline in battery performance is highly disappointing and inconvenient. Another issue I encountered was the mouse's connectivity over the 2.4GHz frequency. Frequently and unexpectedly, the mouse would lose connection to the transmitter, even when it was positioned less than a foot away. This inconsistency in connection stability caused frustration and interrupted my work and gaming experience. Furthermore, the mouse's wired mode proved to be equally problematic. When attempting to connect it via the wire, the mouse failed to recognize the wired connection, rendering it completely unusable. Comparing the longevity of the Aerox 3 to other mice in a similar price range, I was disappointed to find that this mouse lasted only one year, whereas other mice have reliably served me for 3-5 years. This lack of durability is concerning and does not align with the quality I expect from a reputable brand like SteelSeries. Considering the numerous issues I encountered with the Aerox 3 wireless mouse, I will not be purchasing another SteelSeries mouse in the future. I expected better performance, longevity, and overall usability from a mouse in this price range, and unfortunately, the Aerox 3 failed to meet those expectations.

    Beyond Disappointment, Why SteelSeries :(

I have been using this mouse for 6 months now, when I first bought it I was already having issues but didn't want to have wasted my money so I convinced myself it was not that bad but that simply is not true. Pros Build Quality is great for weight(genuinely nicest looking lightweight mouse for the price...when it works) RGB Diffuser looks nice Buttons feel nice Cons The side buttons are placed too high if you have hands bigger than a child, I am 5 foot 6 with small hands mine should not be too large. The mouse constantly scratches your mousepad, this is by far my biggest complaint. Over the months I now have ridges across my corsair mm700 a $110 mousepad before tax now ruined. This makes the mouse functionally useless as the drag from scraping destroys any feeling of lightweight. The RGB functionality only works with the dongle not the bluetooth, and when not over bluetooth it will constantly disconnect just the movement of the mouse allowing you to shoot in game still but not aim until you unplug and replug the system every driver and update has been tried.. Poor battery, they did not use low power LED's according to xbitlabs and this causes the battery life to drop from around 20 hours without rgb to 2 hours with, not even making it through single sessions of one game with the mode that turns off rgb as the mouse moves. While I'm not sure if the feet are not large enough or the on button or the bottom sticks out too far causing the scraping but the sliders have also started to peel off indicating the glue was not strong enough. I used to be a diehard SteelSeries fan starting with the SteelSeries wow mmo mouse and buying only then from there on out, but all of their products over the last three years seem to last me less and less time to the point that I have swapped my SteelSeries peripherals three times while my old razer deathadder and corsair k95 still run 6+ years and 2 generations of hand me downs later. Truthfully it is sad to see SteelSeries fall, but I would not buy this mouse unless you plan on immediately swapping the feet and using no rgb, and then you can find similar mice cheaper and lighter at the same price point. This mouse should cost $10 for the amount of issues it has.
