I’ve been using Apex TKL 7 for 2 years. Loved the feel and quality except for failing 2 LEDs and being wired with a very thick wire that messes up my setup. Emded up buying Gen 2 from Steelseries website while on sale, the keys felt so clicky and cheaper than Apex 7. Ended up returning it and getting Gen 3, which is.. WOW, so high end typing experience (I type a lot and needed adjustable actuation). This is a true upgrade now. Got it on sale too which is not very common with Steelseries. Connection wise it’s perfect no complaints so far.

This keyboard was worth every dollar! My son (age 12) has Marfan’s Syndrome and his hands are so big and long, we have had a difficult time finding any type of gaming equipment that could be comfortable for him to use. This has brought him so much joy that his hands can flow freely and loves the clicking sound of the keyboard when he hits the keys, also the lighting of the keyboard is amazing! We have bought all SteelSeries gaming equipment for him and I would definitely recommend their products to everyone. We haven’t had any issues with his mouse nor keyboard. I feel like SteelSeries is very unrated and I hope this review can help those that struggle with the same issues as my son.

TLDR - This is probably the smoothest feeling HE keyboard I've ever used BUT it comes with the trade-off of terrible software and zero repairability. Detailed review and other gaming keyboard recommendations are below. I work in the tech industry (mostly in front of a computer screen) so I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to keyboards. I currently own like 5 or 6 different mechanical keyboards and I've previously had Hall Effect keyboards from Wooting, Razr, and Corsair. That said, compared to the other HE gaming keyboards that I've owned I would go as far as to say that the Omnipoint 3.0 switches are probably the best (OOTB) feeling and sounding HE switches I've ever tried. The switches are incredibly smooth and have a nice neutral sound profile to them compared to other HE switches on the market like the popular Gateron Jades or Lekker that tend to be clackier. I would even go as far as to say that I wouldn't mind using the Apex Pro for work/typing, although they're not exactly silent so I'm only using them for gaming. From a strictly typing/feel perspective this keyboard is 5 stars. Where the Apex Pro falls short is that it's still a SteelSeries product so the software is bad. Don't even bother using this with a Mac because the Mac software won't even pair with the keyboard so you're unable to change switch actuation points or customize the RGB. Even with PC I had a ridiculously difficult time pairing this keyboard with the software and the only way I ultimately succeeded in pairing it was because I read some old reddit post recommending to use the Steelseries software from October 2023. Once I did that it magically paired. That said, pairing wasn't the end of my problems. The Engine software is so bad that it took me a while just to figure out how to customize the RGB colors. But wait, theres more... in order to keep your custom RGB profile active you have to keep the SteelSeries software running! So essentially if you run into the same issues I did with pairing this keyboard with the software then you may not be able to change the default rainbow RGB profile at all! The onboard profiles only allow you to save custom actuation points on the switches, not RGB profiles as far as I can tell. And finally, if you're familiar with these big brand keyboards you know that they lock you in to their ecosystem so theres currently no good way to customize this keyboard on your own or even buy the omnipoint 3.0 switches as back-up. All that to me isn't worth the smooth typing feel. For other keyboard recommendations - if you want a smooth typing feel and decent sound on a hall-effect gaming keyboard that actually has good software then I highly recommend looking into Wooting and the Gateron Jade mini switches. The Wooting board I want is currently on back order but as soon as they become available again I'll be selling this Apex and going that route.

This keyboard might well be targeting gaming enthusiasts with it's speed and supreme configurability, but it's also outstanding for productivity. It's become my all time favorite after four decades of IT sector mashing along with casual gaming on the side. The surface texture, travel, feel and sound of the keys are just ideal. The magnetic wrist rest is perfect height and so is the pitch of the keyboard with two height options. The tkl format is super satisfying ergonomically (after overcoming phantom 10 key reaching). The smaller form factor scoots around easily as you shift positions while still being heavy for its size so there's no movement in use. It's mostly textured plastic on the exterior and all feels premium. Mine is paired with the Aerox 5 wireless by same maker and they are two of the best input devices I've come across.

This keyboard is fantastic. It feels very sturdy and well-built, and the overall quality is immediately noticeable. The design and aesthetics are amazing… it looks great on the desk and feels premium. I’ve had no issues at all with connectivity or reliability. It stays connected, responds perfectly, and has been completely problem-free since day one. The typing and gaming experience feels smooth and consistent. If you’re looking for a high-quality wireless mechanical keyboard that performs well and looks great, this one is absolutely worth it.

Keyboard feels amazing to type on. Has a more “thocky” rather “clicky” sound. Wireless setup is a complete breeze, and the GG Software is good. Some features that you don’t need (like 3d aim trainer). The lubed Hall effect switches are the star. I have my WASD keys set to 0.1mm actuation with Rapid Trigger enabled. This translates to an insanely responsive feel in movement in fps games. This feature is a game changer and I believe it to be an essential competitive advantage in modern fps games. Super happy with this purchase, the keyboard has exceeded my expectations. The online con is its a bit expensive. Had mine price matched with Amazon, bought for $240

This keyboard feels amazing and the actuation customization is great. The only thing that I don’t like is the software for it, as it’s a bit confusing.

This Key Board is the cream of the crop if you like "quality" clicks and a Keyboard that is heavy and connects quick and easy.

My new favorite keyboard! My hyperx keyboard finally crapped out on me after 4 years. Bought this and never looked back. The adjustable actuation points, the wooting features, and onboard profiles..come on...it doesn't get better than this! oh and its ps5 compatible...SOLD!!!

The hardware itself definitely exudes quality, buttery smooth. However, the method of connection to your laptop or desktop needs some improvements. It keeps disconnecting periodically even with all updated firmwares and drivers, it's quite intermittent and is hard to replicate, making it hard to pinpoint the cause. Other than that issue, it's awesome

This keyboard is amazing! It has a good weight too it so it won't move around a lot when using it in certain situations unless you want to move it around on your desk or table. The keys are sturdy, the backlighting is crisp- it's just a very clean chic, look. Picking it up is a little difficult with one hand, but once you get the hang of where to grab it, it's solid and just feels good. The battery lasts.....as long as you could expect, but it's a week or more until i charge it, obviously the more you use it-- but it has options on how to make it lady longer when you type!! The steelseries program on pc is also very easy to use-- I lready used it for my mouse and mic, so once you know how to use it is a breeze!

Genuinely don’t have any negatives about this keyboard. - Software used for customization is easy to use and doesn’t throttle overall performance of PC like others - Actuations on keys can get insanely low and is amazing for gaming not so much for type and general use luckily the changing of profiles is easy. Overall very satisfied but will say it is slightly overpriced due to other keyboards matching style, construction, and quality. Buy if you understand that it’s a luxury buy and not a need buy.

Love the keyboard, has a great battery life. Feels great on the fingers.
