Good headset
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best quality for the price. The mute is a button instead of a mic movement like most so it doesn’t wear out the mic cord

Don’t waste your money, To many issues- Read
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly the steelseries nova 5x is not that great, Sound quality sucks for xbox series x and the so called clear cast mic is not that good in fact it sounds very tinny like talking through a tin can, The software is very glitchy , For instance I had issues where I went to turn on the headset and the mic wasn’t working, turn off and back on for it to start working again. Also this headset at least to my ears has alot of static noise. To sum it up, I ended up returning the steelseries nova 5x because for $130 they have to many issues. Not worth it. I went with Turtle Beach Stealth 600 for $99.99 and let me tell you, It’s a fantastic headset with full immersive sound and a fantastic mic to boot ! Not to mention I have been using the turtle beach stealth 600 for 3 days now & with the 80 hour battery life I only went from 100% charge to 90% in 3 days. Pretty awesome. Imo steelseries is way overpriced and overrated. So my suggestion is if you are looking for a new headset that won’t break the bank, Get the turtle beach stealth 600 for xbox series x/s , You won’t be disappointed. Hope this helps.

King of connectivity and features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Steelseries Arctis Nova 5X, like a lot of the offerings from Steelseries, is the king of compatibility at great value. Compared to all the offerings in the market, the Nova 5X blends performance, features, comfort, convenience and price into most probably the best overall package available, and clearly showcases Steelseries’ ability to improve upon already well-loved headsets. After heavily using the Nova 5X headset for more than a week, I’ve been able to replace my previous headsets with just this one. Design and Comfort: The Nova 5X boasts a sleek and modern design that deviates from the traditional Arctis aesthetic. The headband features a suspended ski goggle-style strap, which distributes weight evenly across the head, reducing pressure points during extended gaming sessions. Now this can be a bit polarizing as this reduces a bit of the adjustments we typically get with other headbands, so I’d try this out before buying, especially for larger head sizes. The ear cups are generously padded with breathable fabric, ensuring comfort even after hours of use. Moreover, these are replaceable and seem to be the same shape as other Arctis headsets, making 3rd party replacement feasible. Now the overall build quality is not the most premium feeling, and to be frank it’s not built like a tank, but there’s a good balance between durability and lightweight construction. Audio Performance: At the heart of the Nova 5X is its audio prowess. According to Steelseires, the headset utilizes high-fidelity 40mm Neodymium drivers that should deliver crisp, clear sound across a wide frequency range, and the claim is not unjustified. The bass response is punchy without being overwhelming, while the mids and highs remain well-defined. This balanced sound profile makes the Nova 5X versatile enough for various gaming genres, from first-person shooters to atmospheric adventure games. One of the standout features that Steelseries advertises is the implementation of spatial audio technology via the Sonar app. The Nova 5X supports 360-degree spatial audio, which enhances immersion by providing precise directional cues. This feature is supposed to be particularly beneficial in competitive gaming scenarios, where pinpointing enemy positions can make all the difference. In reality, the spatial audio has always been a bit underwhelming to me, and rarely I could get significant benefits in FPS games with these implementations - however I’ve met friends who swear by the advantages of having some immersive sound tech. The simulated spaciousness is not ‘organic’ as I’ve seen with some open-back audiophile headphones, but I must say given the closed back nature the Nova 5X does do great. And also the Sonar app enables a wide range of preselected gaming scenarios, so figuring out a decent setting is not out of the question. Microphone Quality: The bidirectional ClearCast 2.0 microphone is a significant improvement over previous models. It effectively cancels out background noise, ensuring that your voice comes through clearly during in-game communications or voice chats. The microphone is retractable, allowing for easy storage when not in use, and a convenient mute button is located on the ear cup for quick access. As a quality of life feature, not only there’s an audible beep when mute/unmute happens, but there’s also a red LED that lights up when the mic is muted. Furthermore, the sidetone implementation from Steelseries always seemed the best one for me - it’s clear, lagless without becoming overwhelming - and effectively keeps me from yelling during CoOp gameplays or meetings. The only thing that’s missing is a pop filter, since I sometimes found my plosives coming out a tad strongly. Connectivity and Compatibility: The Arctis Nova 5X shines in its versatility. It's primarily designed for Xbox consoles, offering seamless integration with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. However, it's also compatible with PC, PlayStation, and mobile devices, thanks to its USB-C and Bluetooth connectivity options. This multi-platform support makes it an excellent choice for gamers who switch between different systems. The 2.4GHz is lagless, and the Bluetooth supports v5.3 (even though only supporting SBC and AAC codecs). A quick switch button on the right ear cup allows me to toggle between the 2 audio sources in no time, however there’s no simultaneous audio casting. That is alleviated a bit due to the fact that when both audio sources are connected and the 2.4 GHz is selected as the primary source (such as when gaming), if there’s a call in my phone I get a beep that tells me about that. This means I’m still able to respond to urgent phone calls. Software and Customization: SteelSeries' GG software suite complements the Nova 5X, offering a range of customization options. Users can fine-tune audio settings, adjust the equalizer, and create custom sound profiles for different games or media types. The software also allows for microphone sidetone adjustment and firmware updates, ensuring the headset remains optimized over time. Furthermore, Steelseries released a smartphone app (available via Google Play Store and Apple App Store) that’s particularly made for the Arctis Nova 5, which opens up these customization from the phone. I really appreciate the fact that both the 2,4GHz and the Bluetooth profile can handle separate customization, making the Nova 5X very very versatile. Battery Life and Charging: According to Steelseries, the Nova 5X should operate for 50 hours on 2.4GHz, and 60 hours on Bluetooth. I’ve been using it in a mixed manner, jumping between these 2 modes, and after 7 days that included hours of meeting during the day and a couple of hours of gameplay at night still has not forced me to charge. And the availability of fast charge, which is supposed to provide 6 hours runtime with 15 minutes of charging, is the cherry on the top. Value and Conclusion: While the Arctis Nova 5X sits in the mid-to-high price range for gaming headsets, its feature set and performance justify the investment. It offers a compelling package that caters to both casual and competitive gamers alike, as well as usage as a headset for meetings. The combination of comfort, audio quality, versatile connectivity, and long battery life makes it a strong contender in the crowded gaming headset market. For now, this has become my go to headset that’s my primary headset for work, my Xbox gaming, and also a fair bit of usage for music from my smartphone.

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X: A Gamer’s Best Friend
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As an avid gamer, I've tried a variety of wireless headsets over the years, but the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X Wireless Gaming Headset truly stands out. This was my first time using a SteelSeries headset, although I had previous experience with their keyboards, which I always found reliable. I was quite eager to see if their reputation for quality extended to their headsets as well, and I wasn’t disappointed. The build quality of the Arctis Nova 5X is commendable. The headset boasts a clean design with a concealed microphone and a suspension band setup that eliminates any plastic creaks when worn. The plastic edges are smooth, and the headset fits snugly without any discomfort. The concealed mic is a neat touch, ensuring a streamlined look. Plus, the closed-back design helps in minimizing external noise, enhancing the immersive experience whether I'm playing on Xbox, PC, or any other compatible device. Comfort is a crucial factor for me, especially during extended gaming sessions, and the Arctis Nova 5X excels in this area. The suspension band is easily adjustable and fits comfortably without exerting undue pressure. The earcups, wrapped in breathable cloth with soft padding, feel plush against the ears. They can also rotate and lay flat, which makes storing them in a laptop bag hassle-free. This headset is lightweight, which further adds to the comfort during long gaming marathons. One of the standout features of this headset is its impressive battery life. With up to 60 hours of battery life on Bluetooth and 50 hours on 2.4GHz wireless, I found myself recharging it far less frequently than my previous headsets. Fast charging via USB-C is another boon, providing up to six hours of use with just 15 minutes of charging. This is perfect for those moments when I forget to charge the headset overnight but need it for a long day of gaming ahead. The sound quality of the Arctis Nova 5X is exceptional. The custom-designed neodymium magnetic drivers deliver a detailed soundscape with clear highs, pinpoint mids, and deep bass. The ability to switch between different EQ profiles for various games through the Arctis Nova 5 companion app is a game-changer. I tried out several presets, including those for Halo Infinite and Call of Duty, and noticed significant differences that enhanced my gaming experience. Connectivity is seamless with this headset. The quick-switch feature allows me to toggle between 2.4GHz gaming and Bluetooth with just a tap, which is incredibly convenient when I need to take a call or listen to media without leaving the game. The USB-C dongle works across multiple platforms, including Xbox, PC, PlayStation, Switch, Meta Quest, and even mobile devices, making it a versatile option for gamers with multiple systems. The microphone is another area where the Arctis Nova 5X shines. The ClearCast 2.X microphone is fully retractable and delivers clear audio, thanks to its high-bandwidth chipset. I took several calls using the headset, and the feedback was consistently positive, with minimal background noise. The mic's flexibility allows it to be positioned perfectly, ensuring my voice is always captured accurately during intense gaming sessions. In summary, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X Wireless Gaming Headset is a fantastic choice for any gamer looking for a high-quality, comfortable, and versatile headset. Its exceptional battery life, superb sound quality, and seamless connectivity across multiple platforms make it a standout option in its price range.

Upper level quality at a mid level price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m just a casual gamer, xbox, pc and Quest. Always looking for a well rounded headset to use when I don't want to disturb others. This SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5x came well packaged. I don't know why, but it was kind of a ‘neat’ unboxing for me. It just felt like undoing a puzzle or something. When I finally had the headset out, right out of the gate it felt lightweight but still like a quality headset. In the box you’ll find the headset, a couple usb cables (charging and extension for the dongle), a paper manual, the USB 2.4g dongle, and a small sheet of stickers. I didn’t have any issues connecting the Arctis Nova 5x to any devices with either bluetooth or using the 2.4g dongle. My first use case was playing Gears 5 on a PC laptop with the 2.4g link. Plug in the USB dongle, power things up and it just worked. I opened the app on my phone with the intention of switching the EQ to gears, and was a little dumbfounded that out of all the games listed for the EQ, Gears was nowhere to be found. I picked some other shooter game EQ and went on playing. The sound quality is quite good. Good base, good clear crisp highs. Xray hearing and the immersive sound works well in game play, absolutely helpful hearing subtle sounds and knowing which direction they came from. I think I was hearing things in gears I've never noticed before. Call me old school but I also like having the roller volume controls. Maybe I didn’t look around the app enough, but I wasn’t able to find anywhere to set my own EQ. It looks like you have to use the Engine software to set your own EQ. At least give us a 5 band EQ in the app. Otherwise this seems like too many hoops to jump through just to set a basic EQ. I did notice the passive noise canceling isn’t quite as good as other headsets I’ve used, this may be a pro or con for you. I like the microphone design, I don't use chat very often so it’s nice to be able to tuck it away. The flexible boom is not as likely to be broken from a drop or bump like other hard booms. It seems really flexible and moves easily, but somehow still manages to stay right where you set it, like a magician's magic rope made of some magic material. I wonder how that will hold up over time, or will it eventually turn into a limp noodle? I also tried the Nova 5x with my Quest3 using the 2.4g wireless link. It all linked right up without issue. I had to adjust the headset to the ‘largest head’ settings, but was able to fit it over my halo strap. The sound quality however was subpar, very flat sounding. I think this is a MQ3 issue though and nothing to do with the Nova 5x since it sounds awesome with PC and Xbox play. This is also where and why I realized there was no way to set a basic EQ with the app. I think I could have improved the quality with a basic EQ. Another feature I like is the fast charge. I love having this in USB rechargeable devices. Too many times I grab something to use and the battery is dead. SteelSeries claims 15 minutes charge will give me 6 hours of use, a great feature to have in anything rechargeable. All in all I’d say this is a great mid level headset today. It is way better than an older competitor's higher end headset I used to use. Even with my couple nitpicks I still give it 5 stars.

A good headset with incredible value for the price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arctis Nova 5 is one of the best values in gaming headsets right now, though it does have its quirks. Sure, other manufacturers might say they have the best sound quality and most advanced features, but most headsets have near identical hardware. For the most part, perceived differences in audio quality come from different default equalizer curves, not superior drivers or digital signal processing. Let's face it, these types of headphones will be playing explosive sounds and engines revving. You wouldn't use them to examine the intricacies of a baroque quartet. The big advantage to the Nova 5 is near complete cross-platform compatibility. Though the box says specifically designed for Xbox, the headset will work with PlayStation, Switch, computers, and even Android phones. Bluetooth is also available, though audio can't simultaneously play over Bluetooth and wireless USB. The headset also doesn't operate in any wired fashion as it doesn't have a 3.5mm aux port and it doesn't function as a wired USB headset. You can charge it while using it, though. Fit and comfort are subjective things. I found it very light and comfortable, even for extended play sessions. Fully extended it was just big enough for my larger noggin. I especially like the suspension headband. It's similar to that on the Plantronics RIG headsets and I find it doesn't press into my head as noticeably as other fixed headbands. The headset can also be adjusted to fit much smaller heads, even children. The mic retracts into the earcup rather than flipping up. It's not as quick to put away, but it does keep the external dimensions slimmer. It's also better than a detachable mic that can get lost. Overall, the headset is fairly sleek and fits close to your head, which is nice if you want to lean back on the couch and not rest your head on the earcups. Battery life is also quite long, though I can't say if I ever got the 60 hours SteelSeries advertises. I do find the volume knobs to be a bit quirky. The headset has two, one for overall volume and one for game audio / party chat mix. The volume knob on the left doesn't control the volume of the attached device like your phone or computer. Instead, you just leave the system volume at 100% and the volume only changes for the headset's internal amplifier. Neither dial has clicks or detents ( other than one on the game/chat dial at halfway ), so it's not as easy to reset to a given volume level. But these are small complaints for a headset that runs around $120. Many competing headsets that boast this much platform compatibility typically cost $150 - $200 without adding any killer features or superior build quality. The only other thing I can complain about is the extra-long USB A-to-C adapter cable in the box. A short 6-12" adapter would have been just fine to use the dongle on computers and consoles that lack the connector. Instead, SteelSeries included a 5ft cable that needs to be wrapped and coiled and then tucked out of the way. But as said, that's getting pretty nit-picky.
