This game is so fun! I've been enjoying playing with my six year old daughter - we haven't taken it out of the Switch since October. Great level designs, tight controls, all around a wonderful experience. Feels like Mario 64 in terms of being able to explore freely.

The game is great, the feeling of openess on each kingdom is great. The ability to jump and move is better than before. Though I'm unable to, several people have made jumps that are amazing, and even more amazing is Nintendo did not use negative possibility space. If you can get somewhere, there is likely a moon or coins there. The graphics are crisp and bright. Though there are some tricks to make certain areas look better than they are, for example in New Donk City, far away you will see huge crowds, but when you get up to them they are gone. But these things are basically nitpicks compared to how great the game is. The ability to capture enemies gives you a whole new way to play, and though most of the puzzles are unbelievably easy, but once you get past the "Story" and go back to get all over 900 moons, you are going to get challenges that are -HARD-, All in all this is easily a game could win GOTY.

Best Mario game I've ever played

Super Mario 64 translated an iconic 2D platformer into a 3D world and redefined what a Nintendo experience could be. Super Mario Odyssey takes that a step further, playing around with the concept of an open world (albeit less so than, say, Skyrim or Breath of the Wild) where Mario can discover power moons just in the course of messing around. Yes, there are mini-bosses to fight; yes, there are puzzles to solve and secrets to discover; but there have also been times when I've gone "I wonder what would happen if I..." and have been rewarded for it. Not because there's a puzzle to solve, but because Odyssey rewards exploration and experimentation in a way no Mario game I've previously played has. I've immensely enjoyed every Mario title since Super Mario World in 1990, so I don't say this idly: Odyssey is the most fun I've ever had with Mario.

I have to be honest: The last Super Mario game I really played were Super Mario 64. But this game (I just played 2.5 hours) already convinced me and I am dying to get back home from work and continue playing this masterpiece. It feels like you have been thrown back in time and taking your first steps in Super Mario 64. Okay...it could be possible that there is a little bit of nostalgia that pushes this game from a 9 to a 10. Because it really has its little weak points. For example the controls are sometimes mildly imprecise and circuitous when capturing a bullet. You have to turn the camera before controlling the bullet without problems. But this is some little detail that is forgotten as soon as you jump around the next corner and throw Cappy to fight the next enemies. Long story short: I'm already in love with this game and looking forward to some awesome hours of gameplay.

I can't believe how fun this game is! It brings back some feels from Mario 64. Now with more open world game play, I have the freedom to roam and tackle challenges or missions I run across. My wife also loves to play as Cappy as we solve obstacles together.

I have always been a fan of Mario games. I've purchased most of them. I have to say this game is awesome. I like that it has more of an open world field with things to explore. Coming from playing Zelda, this game was pretty easy to beat in comparison. Our first run through we were able to beat it with minimal "moons." Then you are able to go back to the worlds and find more moons, and do more challenges. Honestly that's one of my favorite parts because it reminds me of Zelda just a tad. We were adults playing it, with that said, I think it would be challenging for children not used to these games, and a lot of fun. If they have played other Mario Games it will have a similar feel with the controller. We only have tried 2P more once. Both of us didn't like it. I can see cool aspects to it if you get used to it, but it was more annoying for us than helpful.

I’ve been a huge fan of Mario ever since my sister’s boyfriend lent me his NES, back in 1996. Then not too long after I got an N64 for Christmas, along with a copy of “Super Mario 64”. That particular moment was when fandom crossed the line into obsession. That being said, I have yet to have that same experience with another Mario game... until “Odyssey” came along, that is. I actually saved up and bought the Nintendo Switch just for this game and I have not regretted that decision for a second. Every single second I play the game, I am transported back to my 5-year-old self, experiencing the world of Super Mario for the first time. Plus, the game isn’t just for kids either. The entirety of the gameplay is just the right mixture of fun, varying, and challenging to also appeal to the adult crowd. I should know, I happen to be one myself.

This game is great for fellow Mario lovers! It’s easy enough for the whole family. Clever fun to be things like Bullet Bill or Gumba for once. Graphics are great, just what you’d expect from Nintendo. Not much of a story line. Best for exploring.

Bought this for my son and he absolutely loved it. He beat the game in a week. The graphics are amazing and some parts it turns into the MARIO like on the original Nintendo took me back to when I was a kid. Definitely fun for all ages.

Mario Odyssey is a fantastic Mario Game which encourages exploration and experimentation while lessening frustration. Doing away with the traditional lives system enables players to relax, enjoy, and most importantly complete the game. Even included is an easier guidance mode for younger/newer players. It's obvious Nintendo wants everyone to to enjoy and complete the whole game. Graphically it's gorgeous and does away with power up suits for 'capturing enemies and items in the environment. This opens up the player to a multitude of fun scenarios that never have happened before. It runs fantastically in portable mode as well...i usually got around 3 hrs a charge on the internal battery. Mario Odyssey is another system seller for the Switch and is reason enough alone to buy one. I could recommend it enough!

This is a fantastic game! My son, 8, absolutely loves it and we even play together (in two player one person is Mario and one person is his hat). Great story line with the game as well. I'm not usually a fan of open world games where you have to find things - too easy to get bogged down - but this one keeps the pace up nicely.

If you have any doubt about getting this game and you enjoy platformers or exploration type of games, you can slap those doubts away immediately. Super Mario Odyssey builds itself from all of the previous 3D (and to some extent 2D) games. It has the right amount of elements from each and it compliments Mario's newest feature/gimmick, cappy. The keyword for this game is "surprise". No matter how long I've been playing, the gameplay and exploration never gets stale. There are many things to discover and do that they can't be listed in this review. My only minor gripe with the game is oddly its controls. While many will tell you that motion controls are optional, there are actually a few moons that will require the use for them (ableit, very very very briefly). An improvement over Galaxy's, but still annoying.

I waited too long to pick this up. Super Mario Odyssey is a fantastic game with all the wonderful worlds you can imagine. The mechanics with the hat work really well, and all of the mechanics in the game are so integrated into the core experience. It doesn't feel like anything was added as a last minute decision. The controls are normally very tight, but I did have the infrequent problem of jumping in the wrong direction or having to move the camera to see where I needed to go. It's a small issue, but it makes collecting some of the moons more difficult. That aside, it is great on the Switch, and I can play it on my TV or take it with me. If you like Mario or you are looking for a superb game, this will be great for adults or kids who want to have fun.

Super Mario Odyssey is the latest anticipated 3D platformer from Nintendo that lives up to the Mario series' lofty expectations. The game rolls all the positives of the series together in an excellent blend of platforming fun. There are multiple large worlds to explore with dozens of collectables items in each of them. You'll want to keep exploring these levels with the smooth controls the game gives you in the form of multiple types of walks, runs, jumps, and, thanks to your newest sidekick Cappy, transformations. There's plenty of new things to discover in the game even after you beat the story, making Super Mario Odyssey an easy recommendation. This game really is a must-have for owners of the Switch and both longtime Mario fans and newcomers.
