Love it!

I took advantage if Black Friday and was not disappointed. This game is an early Switch release, but provides loads if fun. Controls are responsive and Marios moves are great fun when holding a joycon in each hand.

Fantastic Game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is an absolute joy to play. I have been a fan of Super Mario games ever since I received my first gaming console, the Nintendo 64. While I hold Super Mario 64 in high regards, this title might be my new favorite. The controls feel great, frame rate runs at a smooth 60fps, fantastic level design, wonderful art style and great music come together to make a solid game. Most important of all, this game is fun to play. This game introduces Cappy, a sentient hat which you can use to control several different enemies as well as residents of the levels. Each thing you capture helps you gain access to new area of the levels as you search for Power Moons. For example taking control over a frog provides you with the ability to reach high areas thanks to the frogs exceptional jumping abilities. While I've played several 3-d Mario games in the past, this new game play mechanic helps make this adventure feel fresh. I recommend this game to anyone who has been a fan of Mario games and anyone who is looking for a fun game to play on their Switch.

Spectacular!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the game "for my son" who is 6 years old. He can't put it down. It reminds me of the wonder and amazement I experienced while playing Mario 64 when I was a kid. Nintendo is killin' it right now. Zelda BoTW was amazing and Odyssey is also fantastic. While BoTW was more realistic and the colors somewhat muted, Odyssey is bright, colorful and vivid. The worlds are very distinct in design. The occasional 2D platforming is a nostalgic nod to the past and helps to break up the gameplay style. So far it's not a very hard game so I think it might be geared more towards kids. This will, by no means, stop me from playing it. One surprising feature is the ability to have 2 players play simultaneously. The second player gets to control the hat. The only thing that detracted from this was the joy cons lagging a lot and the camera angle is a big problem. The lag is a problem even when playing other games and needs to be addressed by Nintendo. I would definitely recommend this title, it will join the other Marios in the gaming halls of fame.

Pure Fun
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is a blast from start to finish. The colors, the music, the gameplay... all are great. There are a TON of moons to collect in this game, and while the bare minimum needed to proceed can be collected extremely easily, it's going after those hard-to-find moons that provides the most challenge and fun. Some of them really test your problem solving skills and platforming dexterity. The variety of locations keep things feeling fresh, and the new mechanics provided by the hat are excellent. Both the capture mechanic and new jumping abilities Mario gets from this sidekick add a lot of new potential to the "same old" Mario formula. It never gets old possessing enemies and figuring out how to use their unique abilities to tackle some new environmental puzzle or challenge. There's a lot here to love for all ability levels. It's also great for quick sessions (you can easily get a couple moons in 5-10 minutes to get a sense of accomplishment), or for longer sessions, clearing an entire kingdom in a few hours. Highly recommended for anyone!

The game you've been waiting for on Switch.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super Mario Odyssey offers a wide variety of gameplay that should appeal to all types of players. It's a 3D platforming adventure that mixes a lot of the best elements of previous Mario games, such as the exploration from Super Mario 64 and the platforming elements of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3D World. The goal of the game is to collect Power Moons, of which there are hundreds hidden in all sorts of places. Some are easy to find while others can be quite challenging, offering something for everyone. The main game can be completed without finding every moon, which means even inexperienced players should be able to beat the game. There are also some extra challenges aimed at more hardcore players, and if one chooses to find all of the moons, the game offers plenty of hours of fun. The controls are easy to pick up, but still offer enough depth to find new ways of getting around a world. Simply moving Mario around can often be fun in itself. The presentation values are also top notch, with colorful graphics and nice music.

AMAZING
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Far and away the best Mario game ever made.... and that's quite a bold statement in and of itself. So many levels and so many moons to collect. So colorful, vibrant, full of life. This game is easy to play for all ages. Couldn't say enough good things about it. Worth buying a system simply to play.

A love-letter to Mario.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming into Super Mario Odyssey, I was skeptical if it would grip me. I've gotten older and thought I moved past the shine of the franchise; I was wrong. Super Mario Odyssey has got call backs from a lot of Mario entries be it via levels, enemies, costumes, or abilities. The ability to capture enemies and control them is simple game changer, yet very diverse and smooth. The story is minimalistic but it gets the job done. The world's you visit are all different and varied as you move with Cappy to rescue the princess and his sister. Each have a distinct theme and mechanics to progress and keep things fresh throughout. There are a ton of collectibles to find on each world as well which are both for progression and purchasing items. The controls were butter smooth whether I used the joy cons or the pro controller. Controlling Mario has never been so smooth and fun, imo. The switch has been doing great this year and Super Mario Odyssey around the holidays makes it a no trainer purchase this year.

The new 3D mario meets the expectation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You played Mario 64? Sunshine? Galaxy? Well, the smooth controls and genius level design is back now on Nintendo Switch, it may feel a little on the easy side at first, but once you start to collect all the moons and coins, the game really becomes a challenge. Recommended for children and adults

Super Mario Does It Again!
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this game and how it combines not only a free world experience like Super Mario 64 but It has elements of old school 2D Nintendo Super Mario as well for a touch of nostalgia making it a game for newcomers and veterans of Mario to enjoy! Plenty of replayabilty due to the nearly countless Power Moons on each level to give an extra challenge to players even after completing the main story!

A must-play for almost everyone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most gamers already know whether they like Mario games. If you dislike them, then Mario Odyssey won't change your mind. But if you do like them, then you can rest assured that this one is as great as any of the others. It doesn't quite live up to the insane hype around it, but it is still very good. This is the same style of cartoony 3d-platforming collect-a-thon as Mario 64 and the Galaxy games. The main storyline takes around 15-20 hours if you play at a normal pace, and it's fairly easy for the most part. However, there is a huge amount of post-game content that you unlock after that, and some of it is quite challenging. No DLC or microtransactions here...you can unlock everything without pulling out your wallet again. There are only a few real flaws in Odyssey, and none of them are very bad. If you're on the fence about this game, then I would recommend you give it a try. It's my #2 favorite Switch game behind only Breath of the Wild.

Best 3D Mario Game to Date
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really enjoyed the Wii 3D mario games in Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. Then, with Mario 3d World it kinda went downhill. However, I really enjoyed this entry in the series. It takes some of the excitement of surreal worlds and grounds them a little bit, bringing Mario into some of the most "realistic" worlds yet. Having already completed the main storyline, it is in traditional Mario fashion, no deviation from the status quo. For me, however, Mario games are more about the creative gameplay and boss battles than the actual storyline or cut scenes like in other video games. After completing the story, there is still so much exploring to do! I spent a solid two hours on one world alone trying to gather the power stars, and I was nowhere near close to collecting all of the stars there. Every single star seems to be creatively placed in its location; nothing seems to be by chance, but instead intentional. Overall, would definitely recommend.

Masterpiece
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I skipped the Switch but got the Switch 2 on the first day and after playing Tears of the Kingdom this was my number 2 in the list and what a beautiful experience, this is probably the best 3D Mario to the date. A lot of new mechanics combined with nostalgia from the NES, SNES, and N64 era make it perfect. SPOILER ALERT.................. the mushroom kingdom right in the childhood and the post-ending the story gameplay is like another game or a DLC. 10/10 no doubt about it.

Takes me back...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is so fun! I've been enjoying playing with my six year old daughter - we haven't taken it out of the Switch since October. Great level designs, tight controls, all around a wonderful experience. Feels like Mario 64 in terms of being able to explore freely.

Super Fun
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super Mario Odyssey has outstanding game play, story and graphics. The addition of Cappy makes for a new style of game play with plenty of new capabilities. The kingdoms are huge and offer a lot of things to collect such as power moons ,regional coins, outfits and souvenirs. You power up the Odyssey by collecting a minimum number of power moons that allow you to travel. between kingdoms. Each kingdom has plenty of power moons to collect in plain sight while others are hidden or you complete a task or activity. Some warp pipes and doors lead to game fields that range in difficulty. I like that I could decide which I would want to play without sacrificing progress or advancing in the game. This is unlike other Mario games were you could get stuck on a level or not have enough stars to continue beyond. There is even more game play after you defeat Bowser (and it is a lot more relaxing).
