Mario 64 2.0
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super Mario Odyssey is a great game. The various kingdoms and their novel themes are some of the funnest and most aesthetically amazing environments in a Mario game to date. Pros: - Great Pacing: So much to do and you're never stuck doing the same thing long enough to get bored. - HUGE amounts of nostalgia throwbacks: There are a lot of nods to classic Super Mario Bros. & Donkey Kong games. - The new hat mechanic is a blast! - If you have enjoyed Mario 64/Mario Galaxy, there are a lot of familiar and welcomed returns to this series. - Pauline: Peach has friend-zoned Mario for far too long. Time to go back to the hot redhead instead (there's an awesome scenario in New Donk City that's well worth completing). Cons: - Enforcing motion controls to pull off some of the more advanced moves is a bad decision on Nintendo's part. - The lack of depth perception, 8-point directional controls, and weird slow-to-acceleration controls can often become frustrating as they may cause you to fail scenarios, miss jumps, or aim your hat throws improperly. - The cosmetic costumes, although great looking, don't offer any mechanical value (buying a snorkle/swimsuit doesn't make you be able to hold your breath under water longer or swim faster, the winter coat doesn't stave off the chilling effects of the cold any better than the boxer shorts, etc.). It makes pursuing these costumes kind of shallow and moot. - The main game is incredibly short: I thought I took the scenic route and yet won the main portion of the game in 2-3 days. Players ignoring the peripheral content could probably win the game in half that time. There's a huge collect-a-thon after the main game is won so at least you're able to keep playing but the story structure is crafted considerably worse. All in all, this is one of the best Super Mario games I've played and if you're a fan of 3D platforming, games the whole family can enjoy, and/or are thinking of taking the Switch plunge and are still wondering if there are enough good games on it yet - this will definitely be for you (see also: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, etc.).

Possibly the Best 3D Mario Game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just like Breath of the Wild, I wasn't absorbed by all the pre-release hype that had been accumulating. I thoroughly enjoy Platformers and always enjoy Mario games due to the quality and level design they bring to the table. I went out of my way to get every Power Moon that I could by the time I finished the final boss. I ended at 422 and then I learned that the game has over 800 Moons to get. Offers enjoyment for everyone, and very nonlinear level design allows for a vast number of creative ways to beat the game. Definitely a must own for any Switch owner, Nintendo fan, and those who love Platformers!

Challenging, yet addicting
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Completing the main game story wasn’t really that hard, and the game play was very interesting to follow. Graphics were excellent and well-designed (I even took various screenshots of Mario at different scenic places). However, completing the whole game, although addicting, is quite frustrating as various challenges were pretty hard to finish. The camera feature is also sometimes hard to control alongside Mario’s movement which makes it even more challenging. Overall, it’s a very fun, challenging, and addictive game.

Best Mario since Super Mario 64
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One could say a million words about this game because of how amazing and fun it is but I'm just going to quickly say that as a life long Mario fan - This is the best entry to the Super Mario series since Super Mario 64. (And Mario Sunshine on Gamecube is a strong entry but this was that much fun).

Explorers Welcome!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A game designed to honor and indulge in the spirit of discovery. Mario controls smoothly and freely with the deepest set of moves and techniques he’s ever had — not the least of which is the ability to throw his cap, which can then be used to control certain enemies and use their special skills! Coins, power moves, and secret areas abound for the clever and observant explorer, making this a game with a focus on traveling, seeing the sights, and finding your own path, with some tightly-designed linear obstacle courses sprinkled throughout your journey. It’s a fine mix, and I very much enjoy it!

Among the absolute best 3D platformers
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The game is constantly throwing new ideas at you at every world you go to, from a ghost-like hat area to a beach world to a realistic city to a weird food world with soup as lava, all the while the controls are among the absolute best out there. It also helps that the game is absolutely gorgeous and runs near perfectly. If you own a Switch, this is a must-have

Best game I've played in a while.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seems like games these days are just dull, plain, and boring. Every now and then there are good ones, but they are often ruined with micro transactions, DLC, or made to be online only. This game offers a classic gaming experience with none of the modern annoyances must games have these days. You get a nice long adventure with a variety of worlds to explore and activities to do. With so much to do and discover, this game will offer hours of fun for weeks. Want to play with a friend? There is a 2-player co-op mode as well, only downside is the second player controls the hat character and has to stay with Mario at all times, rather than having a fully controllable character.

The best Mario game of all time!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never put this much time into any Mario game and had this much fun the entire way through. I will admit that the game starts slow and very formulaic. But the more you play the better the levels get, and the better you get the jumping and hat mechanics the more you open up in the levels. By the end of the game you feel like a parkour God! And the fan service given to long time Mario fans is amazing! This is one of three must own Switch titles out right now in my opinion. Right up there with Zelda Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe!

Absolutely fantastic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Where to start. This is a game I have been looking forward to it for some time. That wait is finally over and let me tell you...it was worth the wait. Visually the kingdoms are great and distinct. Locating the moon's is fun and you will quickly see you can lose track of time when you get on a role. From simple to complex... controlling Mario can lead you to some great speed runs or clever ways to get from point A to point B. Overall the game is amazing and one of my favorites this year. I completed the game with 405 moon's and am working on getting the ones I missed.
