Excellent Experience
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I saw online where Best Buy was selling copies of this game on sell for 50% off - around $30 instead of its usual $60 price. Additionally, the physical copies were the ones on sale and I always prefer to get those if they’re available. I ordered the copy in the afternoon at the location nearest my house, placed it on hold, got off work at 7:00 PM, and picked it up on my way home. The entire trip inside to get the game took less than 5 minutes! Will be using this service again

Second Game of The Year for Nintendo
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game does what BOTW did to the Zelda series. It reinvented what it meant to be a Mario game in the best possible way. It is a bit easier than I would've liked especially compared to Zelda, but the fun is in the exploration and amazing world they built. The capture mechanic alone is worth the price of admission, and it made me throw Cappy at everything imaginable. MUST BUY for anyone with a switch.

A Big Adventure for All
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super Mario returns for another great 3D adventure. Trying to breakup Bowser’s forced wedding with Princess Peach is a simple story, but cannot be held back by the many positives of this game. Top tier platforming mixed with amazing cartoonish graphics that the Switch pulls off with no issues allows Mario’s solo debut on the system to shine. So much personality is put into this game, from the frozen desert to the bustling city, you will always have something to do. If you are a completionist, you will have a great time collecting everything. It feels like there is always something to collect around the corner or a power moon to be discovered. Definitely a 70+ hour game to find everything. The main ‘gimmick’ of this game is the capture ability which causes Mario to take over an enemy and act as them to solve puzzles. It works like a charm and feels great to transform into enemies. Controls feel tight and natural, advanced players could pull off some great leaps and jumps! HD rumble in this game is superb and just puts you into the experience even more, for example, riding a motor scooter through the city feels as if you are actually accelerating or waiting at a stop just from the vibrations alone. Overall, another one of Nintendo’s greatest hits that is a must play on the Switch.

Great Game for Everyone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great game, bought for my family. Kids and wife love it. I love it because its a spiritual successor to Mario 64 and for us old jeads that was the pinnacle of next gen gaming. This brings back memories but also stands on its own merits besides nostalgia.

Amazing
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the game to buy this year if you don't purchase any others. It combines all of the best elements of Mario throughout the years. Instead of power stars like N64, you have power moons but are free to explore the same. The second level has nearly 70 moons to collect. This game is user friendly, fun, and will pay for its self in a matter of hours from the enjoyment.

GOTY!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Mario Odyssey is a joy. This game has many moments that leave you smiling. Mario is one of the few titles that can do that; its charm is unlike any other and even after decades, it still succeeds to leave an everlasting impression. Gameplay is FUN. The most important characteristic of any game... it's simply fun. There are simple mechanics to learn with the introduction of Cappy, but as you progress in the game, you realize there are many variations and combos one can do to accomplish a set goal. The world of Odyssey is also spectacular and each kingdom has its own unique personality. The story.. if any.. is more or less the same.. save peach, but its more about the journey that makes this game of one the best if not the BEST in the series. Music is also wonderful and there are few tracks I revisit out of leisure. Collecting moons can sometimes be underwhelming but other times... when you figure out how to reach that elusive moon... you feel very accomplished and thrilled. The replay value is also great. there's a lot to do once you think you've finished the game... NOPE... still a whole lot of content to explore. That is what makes Nintendo great... they offer full, complete gaming experiences. if you own a switch, this is a MUST. BUY IT!

An amazingly fun mix of old & new. Mario is back!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Playing through the first few levels of Super Mario Odyssey really shows how far this series has come through its nearly 40 years of existence. Its subtle (and not so subtle) references to Mario games of the past, particularly the original Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy and the recent Super Mario 3D World combine to create an awesome mix of all that you loved about the Marios of the past. The inclusion of Cappy is a literal game changer. He's the most useful sidekick Mario's had since Yoshi. The inventive ways you can use him to get around levels and take control of enemies gives you a sense of freedom not seen since the groundbreaking Super Mario 64. Odyssey's level of detail is tremendous. It really shows off the potential of the Switch. From the fabric and stitching of Mario's cap to the soot that builds up on our hero if he stands near a chimney, the incredible amount of care and attention to detail is truly deserving of such an iconic franchise. It more than holds its own against champions of minutia such as Grand Theft Auto. For as much love as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild gets, it's plain to see that Super Mario Odyssey is the Switch's true "killer app". VERY highly recommended.

Best 3D Mario!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super Mario Odyssey is hands down the best 3D Mario! Each location is fantastic and beautiful, with their own personalities and inhabitants. There is an incredible amount of little details that make the experience awesome! The controls are simple, the story is fun, and finding all of the moons is fun and never tedious! Potential Game of the Year!

An absolute joy, perfect for short or long play
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Typically each main Mario 3D platformer is going to be high quality and entertaining to play, but this one does take it to another level. It feels like a clever series of puzzles that you have to look and solve in well designed environments. And they do some very smart things in order to not waste your time, minimal loadtimes, quickly reloading your character, quick travel across a large level. And because the main goal of the game is to find these "moons" hidden throughout the level, you don't jump in and out of "levels". Its all one big level, and when you complete something and get a moon for it, you still continue forward, or in any direction you want. So this lends itself to playing for 15 minutes and accomplishing really quick, or it can become addictive having this treasure hunter mentality, and you could easily play one specific area for 3 to 5 hours. And there's a LOT of content here. And you can choose how MUCH hunting you want to do, or have minimal you just need to do to progress to the end game. And once you "beat" the main story, there's plenty more for you. Very creative, and very satisfying. Look and sounds fantastic. It really is the definition of fun. Its fun almost all the time.

You can't go wrong with Mario
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got a Nintendo Switch as a birthday present to myself, and had already bought this game a week or so prior, so I couldn't wait to hook up the new system and get started in on the game. Not surprisingly, it's great. The controls, the level design, the look of it all is fantastic. Everything you love about Mario plus some new stuff too. Love it!

I took advantage if Black Friday and was not disappointed. This game is an early Switch release, but provides loads if fun. Controls are responsive and Marios moves are great fun when holding a joycon in each hand.

Awesome Nintendo
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of the most enjoyable games of the decade. Pure joy at every corner, with deep controls that are not hard to understand. Some of the most creative level design and worlds to date in the Mario franchise. The possession mechanic with the hat is so unbelievably enjoyable, I'm surprised it took this long to be in a game.

This is an amazing game for the Switch for Mario
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So much to do in this game. So many different ways to play it. You can't type it all out without saying, "If you own a Nintendo Switch you MUST OWN THIS GAME!". From the very start of the game the controls are amazing. The story grabs you in right away. The game play is reminiscent of Mario 64. 10 Purple coins out of 10!

WOW!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am an adult who plays this game, with younger brother that play this game. When I first saw the trailers for this game, I felt a little indifferent. I loved N64's Super Mario 64, GameCube's Super Mario Sunshine, and Wii's Super Mario Galaxy (my favorite). I was let down by Super Mario Galaxy 2. I thought they were trying too hard to make it like the original Galaxy. My boyfriend was very excited about the game, so I pre-ordered it. I picked it up the day it came out and we immediately started playing. My first thoughts were WOW. The music, the graphics, the controls, everything. It was new and fresh and unlike any other Mario game, while maintaining the same wonderful colors, art, familiar movements, loveable characters, etc. of the other Mario games. It takes what you know and love and grows from it. It's a brand new adventure! Definitely up there with my favorites! We enjoy it, just as my younger brothers (5-8 age range) enjoy it on their Switch. The ability to take such a fantastic game on the go also blows me away. Seriously, if you are contemplating getting this game, DO IT!

Fantastic Game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is an absolute joy to play. I have been a fan of Super Mario games ever since I received my first gaming console, the Nintendo 64. While I hold Super Mario 64 in high regards, this title might be my new favorite. The controls feel great, frame rate runs at a smooth 60fps, fantastic level design, wonderful art style and great music come together to make a solid game. Most important of all, this game is fun to play. This game introduces Cappy, a sentient hat which you can use to control several different enemies as well as residents of the levels. Each thing you capture helps you gain access to new area of the levels as you search for Power Moons. For example taking control over a frog provides you with the ability to reach high areas thanks to the frogs exceptional jumping abilities. While I've played several 3-d Mario games in the past, this new game play mechanic helps make this adventure feel fresh. I recommend this game to anyone who has been a fan of Mario games and anyone who is looking for a fun game to play on their Switch.

Spectacular!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the game "for my son" who is 6 years old. He can't put it down. It reminds me of the wonder and amazement I experienced while playing Mario 64 when I was a kid. Nintendo is killin' it right now. Zelda BoTW was amazing and Odyssey is also fantastic. While BoTW was more realistic and the colors somewhat muted, Odyssey is bright, colorful and vivid. The worlds are very distinct in design. The occasional 2D platforming is a nostalgic nod to the past and helps to break up the gameplay style. So far it's not a very hard game so I think it might be geared more towards kids. This will, by no means, stop me from playing it. One surprising feature is the ability to have 2 players play simultaneously. The second player gets to control the hat. The only thing that detracted from this was the joy cons lagging a lot and the camera angle is a big problem. The lag is a problem even when playing other games and needs to be addressed by Nintendo. I would definitely recommend this title, it will join the other Marios in the gaming halls of fame.

The game you've been waiting for on Switch.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super Mario Odyssey offers a wide variety of gameplay that should appeal to all types of players. It's a 3D platforming adventure that mixes a lot of the best elements of previous Mario games, such as the exploration from Super Mario 64 and the platforming elements of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3D World. The goal of the game is to collect Power Moons, of which there are hundreds hidden in all sorts of places. Some are easy to find while others can be quite challenging, offering something for everyone. The main game can be completed without finding every moon, which means even inexperienced players should be able to beat the game. There are also some extra challenges aimed at more hardcore players, and if one chooses to find all of the moons, the game offers plenty of hours of fun. The controls are easy to pick up, but still offer enough depth to find new ways of getting around a world. Simply moving Mario around can often be fun in itself. The presentation values are also top notch, with colorful graphics and nice music.
