This is a must have have for the Switch. Amazing gameplay, many hidden treasures and great level design. Mario is back in full force. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 is cause I would have loved a multiplayer option with Luigi and because it is generally an easy game. Not as complex as Zelda, but I didn't expect that.

Super Mario Odyssey had big expectations for many people, and for me personally, it exceeded them. It takes traditional Mario mechanics that we know and love and adds the newest one: Cappy. Happy alone makes this game very unique and different from other Mario games, and the amount of things you can do with it are incredible. There's tons of content as well, so the "end" of the game is not really the end. Packed full of content, jolly as can be, and most importantly: fun. Mario is a must buy.

This is a must own for the Switch, and honestly, I would say a system seller. The gameplay is tight, and controls are responsive. The worlds are absolutely stunning and the new mechanics introduces with Cappy and Capturing keep each world feeling like a brand new experience. I particularly enjoyed the retro segments that played out like the classic NES entries in the series. The new characters are likeable and the story provides adequate motivation for Mario. Everyone should play this game.

A reason to own a Nintendo console is for Mario games.... and Super Mario Odyssey is no exception!. Super Mario Odyssey plays like mario 3D land but with an added feature of using your cap to attack, and transform into characters or unique objects. Super Mario Odyssey offers alot of gameplay hours with stars to unlock. The graphics and audio are top-notch. Super Mario Odyssey has plenty of puzzles and mysteries that make the game engaging, and the story is fun to unravel.

There just isn't enough space here to express how amazing this game is. Simply, the best Mario game in such a long time! Although the mailine story can be beaten rather quickly, the postgame and everything after adds so much replayability and just extends the gameplay. Decent story but this is the definitive type of fun gaming that Nintendo is known for. Can't recommend this enough! If you have a Switch or plan on buying one, this is an essential MUST BUY to your gaming library/collection.

This game was recommended to me by a friend, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Particularly fun was the unique ways it employs the joy-cons. Have not tried out the two player mode yet, but I like that there's the option. While playing, I thought it was a little too easy, but in retrospect, considering how many times I had to retry some of the challenges and battles, it has a decent level of difficulty.

In a way. Mario Odyssey takes a little something from every mario game before it. I don't want to ruin any of the surprises, but this is Mario at his most authentic best. The newest and best feature is Cappy, allowing you to explore the Mushroom Kingdom in a way like never before. The story is good at about 12 hrs, but you could easily clock in way more time trying to visit every world and collect everything. This makes it fun to come back to even after finishing.

Fantastic game for young kids and young adults at heart. this game mechanics are very well tuned. 5 year old kids wont have any issues playing this game. Nintendo made the game fun and not too difficult to frustrate young kids. It is an excellent continuation of the nintendo galaxy series. after playing those two prior to this galaxy 1 and 2 this was a very nice transition.

This is a fast-paced game with fun controls. Mario and his world look better than ever. With a move set pulled straight from Super Mario 64 (with a few delightful twists and additions), traveling from kingdom to kingdom is a joy both aesthetically and functionally. Play at your pace and explore to no end. I had high expectations, and it’s still blowing me away. 5 stars for sure!

Super Mario Odyssey is Pure Magic!

If you like Mario, then buy this game. Just stop reading here and get it. Super Mario Odyssey recaptures the magic of Super Mario in surprising new ways. It brings with it a return to the game play of Mario 64, wherein the world is explored instead of completed. (Unlike Mario 64, the level doesn't end when you obtain a Power Moon; you can keep playing.) In traditional Mario-style, Peach is yet again kidnapped by Bowser, who is planning a wedding to marry her! Mario tries to stop him, but is beaten back to the Cap Kingdom. Mario meets a local, Cappy, whose girlfriend (a tiara) is worn by Princess Peach. Together they begin their journey. to save their respective sweathearts. Cappy is with Mario throughout the game. He can be thrown horizontally, vertically, and even in a circle! He serves as an attack, a way to collect coins, to deflect or destroy projectiles, to act as a platform, and to capture enemies! This final technique provides the most variety for the game, as Mario essentially becomes the captured creature/enemy! Mario can capture a LOT of characters from frogs, to turtles, to fish, to Bullet Bills! In order to go from one Kingdom to the next they find and repair their hat-shaped ship, the Odyssey. Power Moons are required to do this. The goal then, is to collect enough Power Moons to upgrade the Odyssey to travel to the next kingdom. These Power Moons are scattered all over each kingdom, and there's no required order in which to collect them. The game starts off quite easy and gives you plenty of time to explore at your leisure. This makes completing the game relatively easy, and I found I finished the story without too much difficulty as only 124 moons are required to complete the story. However, there are a total of 880 unique Power Moons waiting to be discovered. (During the course of the story, a second set of Power Moons are unlocked.) The post-story gameplay of finding and collecting Power Moons kept me playing for many more hours. Some of these moons are quite challenging to collect!

This is a great game that's safe for all ages, providing hours of family fun. It reminds me of a bit of Mario Galaxy. There is some disappointment if you are expecting more of the classic feel, but it throws in a few surprises. I can play for about 1-2 hours before finding it extremely repetitive and needing a break. It is someone lacking in the bad guy content, there are not a lot of Goombas to smash and Turtles to Kick. And, the Boss battles were designed primarily with children in mind (Target Audience). Sometimes you find yourself wondering around a lot of wide open spaces (No pun intended Adults ;P), running to the next object every little while gets old. But, these spaces and levels are visually pleasing and have some wonderful graphics. Plus, there is a horde of mini games along the way, almost too many sometimes, definitely designed for the Adderall generation. Overall this is a fun game that I highly recommend to any age, whether entertaining the kids, having family fun, or for nostalgia's sake it is a lot of fun, what Mario is all about.

Great game all around for casual and hardcore players . Joy-con controls are okay gets to be a bit much. Played mostly with pro controller which offered tighter controls. Tons of replability as beating last world unlocks more to do. If you have a young one or a second person around they can control the hat which resulted in some hilarious moments for me. Fun game, tight controls, great platforming and gorgeous game must buy for switch owners

Modern Classic Mario with Retro Throwbacks

This is a modern classic Mario game that has retro throwbacks interwoven in some of the obstacles. Adding to the dynamic open world concept, Mario's hat allows you to become your adversaries to complete obstacles. You collect moons hidden in each world on a journey to save the princess from Bowser. Well made, and likely one of the key reasons the Nintendo Switch has been such a wildly popular console.

This game is really fun. For an adult, it’s not overly challenging. Everywhere you look, there is something fun to discover. The replay-ability is super high. I finished only getting 1/5 of the hidden moons.

This is the perfect game for kids learning to play video games! My son is 6 years old and just started getting into video games. It is hard for them to navigate a joystick. He and I would play, I would play as Mario and he would play as Cappy. This helped him learn to navigate using a joystick effectively. The game is very fun! Using Cappy to take control of different enemies is a unique game experience that adds variety. The "open world" concept is cool for a Mario game! The only con I can think of is that the camera angle can be frustrating, but that's a minor complaint.

    The Next TRUE 3D Mario

This is the return the the 3D mario formula that was first introduced in Mario 64 and later expanded upon in Sunshine. The sequel to Sunshine (Galaxy) went for a more linear approach, focusing on point A to B challenges set around themes. 3D World took the 2D formula and accurately conveyed that feeling in a 3D space. Odyssey goes back to the more open world exploratory nature of Mario's first 3D outing and expands upon it with a variety of new moves that allow for some complicated jumps and traversals. Even with these added mechanics, the game still seems to be accessible enough to allow a player who may not be as skilled to slowly and gradually learn and grow as a player. Levels and challenges are designed with those two players in mind, allowing for some amazing platforming or simpler paths. Anyone who claims the game to be "too easy" is not taking advantage of the amazing move sets. This is a game where anyone can find challenge in it if you look for it, it is a game that truly "captures" (pun intended) the joy of a 3D Mario platformer. The game goes out of its way to reward risky behavior and exploration, the game is always beckoning the advanced player to try to "make the jump" to hidden areas or hard to reach spots. The amount of content in the game is astounding. With over 800 "moons" to collect, a completionist (myself) will have plenty to do. The game does "give out" a health amount of moons with little effort on the player, which for some might seem too easy, but for every easy catch there is at least 5 challenging, hidden or clever moons. The game is big into rewarding a player who is having fun. Overall Nintendo has shown once again that, in their mind, a game has one purpose: for the player to have fun. TL;DR version: This game is 120% fun, with a side of Mario charm.
