Sometimes we don't have an hour to play the full board game, acquire stars, version of the game and just want to play some mini games. But you have to unlock the mini games by playing the full board game mode enough times that by chance, it is selected as the mini game to play that round.

The maps are tiny. The mini games are stupid and not challenging. The character interactions are so kiddish that everyone in the room feels that weird, vicarious feeling of mutual embarrassment. I know it's not nostalgia clouding my judgment. I still own a Gamecube and four Wavebirds and have a blast playing Mario Party 4 with a group of four adults several times per year. This game is a product of the overall dumbing down and "kiddifying" of many games and franchises that's been occurring in the industry for years now. Plus you're forced into buying extra Switch controllers if you're a pro controller owner. I understand this aspect, but it doesn't change the fact that it's not fair for the consumer. Anyway, we tried playing it three times but could never finish a game. Already sold it :(
