The worst security system I've ever used. I want a refund

We have put up quite a few cameras around our house. We started out with a wired system by the company named after a Dr Seuss character. It was decent but had its issues. Then we moved up to 4K wireless cameras, which have great resolution but they are limited by the internet connection, which decreases the resolution. When I saw this new Swann wired system with 4K Ultra HD, I was really interested. It has 8 channels but only comes with 4 cameras. The system can be expanded to a total of 8 cameras. Out of the box, I liked how it was packaged. The receiver is white, which I am normally not a fan of. But our current receiver is black and it looks out of place on top of the high shelf. The white receiver looks so much better. There are stickers to place on your window to let people know your home is monitored. Set up went well, at first. There are three separate steps to the set up. Each step has its own sheet of instructions numbered 1, 2 and 3. My issue was that these are all separate pages and it isn't clear that's how it is. Add to it that there were a couple of extra pages in in other languages. Once I figured that out, set up got moving again...until we realized that this higher end system has to be plugged into your router via an ethernet cable. We had been setting it up in the master bedroom, taking advantage of the 4K tv in that room. Our router is in the main part of the house. So we moved it to where our old system is set up. Unfortunately, the receiver didn't seem to like the tv in that room. You need a tv or monitor to set the system up. So we took it back to the master bedroom and used our wifi extender to hook it up to the tv. Swann says you can connect wirelessly using their Swann extender but our TC Link extender worked just fine. After all of this, set up went better. The system did have two software updates, which downloaded and installed easily. The system and app are nearly identical to our old system.it comes with a wired mouse to control the system on your tv. Our old system came with a remote control too, which would have been a nice touch with the Swann system. The wiring is the same as our old system. If we had wanted the cameras in the same place, we could hve just plugged the in using the old cables and remounted the cameras. The resolution is phenomenal. It has rained the past 4 days so we weren't able to install the cameras outside. We set up the cameras in the house. The resolution was beyond fantastic. We turned the lights out and the coloring of the picture changed but the resolution remained identical. In the pitch dark, I could see a lot of detail. The receiver seems quiet. Our old receiver is housed in a metal chassis and is super loud. This receiver is housed in a plastic chassis and seems to be much quieter. This is a definite plus when it is in the living area of your home. The app downloaded easily. You can access the camera feed easily when you are away from home. I would recommend this system to someone looking for a wired system. Instructions could have been more clear but we got it sorted out.

We needed another camera system that was wired due to us already having 2 wireless setups that were conflicting with one another - between those and the mesh wifi system in the house, our neighbors were a bit upset with us saturating all the wifi channels too! We had blind-spots with no camera coverage that we wanted to be sure to have eyes-on as much as the rest. Setup of this unit was exceptionally easy, plus no requirement of an HD or HD+ monitor. Typically with a wired unit you'd need a power supply for each camera - not the case here. One power supply is split 4 ways to allow all cameras to get their juice from one wall-wart. As an added bonus the hookup for power would be right next to the DVR so no looking for an outlet somewhere outside or where your cameras are going. Included cables are long enough to reach anywhere in (or out) of your house. We utilized an old 1400x900 monitor we had spare, but you can utilize any VGA or HDMI-enabled monitor up to 4k resolution for your display. Even at the low resolution we're using, the DVR still records at 4k. Video is exceptionally clear, day or night. I have not yet used the red/blue police lights or alarm on it though. I think I'll be skipping those as I don't want to annoy the neighbors. Too many animals moving about at night and cars going by that it would be going off far too often . A great setup with an great app to boot - highly recommended!

The install on this setup was much easier than I expected. Ran the cables to the DVR and was able to get all 4 cameras setup and running in one afternoon! Using this system is a total breeze, and the having recordings are great for security and liability reasons! The night vision is much better than I expected, and we have a full view of our property at all times. Zero complaints so far!

This is not my first home security camera set up as I have done a couple before this one. The major difference was the previous ones, by Lorex, were wireless (the cameras, the DVR was wired) so it was a tad easier to install than these. BUT!!! Those security cameras are only 720p and this one from Swann is a glorious 2160p aka 4K! I have a car that I have been customizing and modifying with my sons so when I got the chance to scoop up the Swann - Enforcer™ 8-Channel, 6-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wired 4K UHD 2TB DVR Surveillance System I knew I had to have it! It keeps an eye on our car as well as on my family, our other belongings and has made us feel super safe. Boxing: There is 1 main retail outer box with 3 inner boxes that have a handle and have numbers on them. Opening up the contents I had 3 power bricks: 1 for the DVR, 2 for the cameras; 1 of the camera bricks feeds 2 cameras and the other feeds 4. I thought that was kinda cool. Upon looking at it I thought this would hinder how I wanted to install the cameras but actually it worked out really well. Cameras: The cameras have BNC connectors so if you have ever set up or looked at a wired security system you are familiar with these. Again, these are WIRED and need a power source. As I mentioned earlier there are 2 power bricks for the cameras. When laying out how you want to install everything keep this in mind. The flashing lights, siren & spotlights on each camera is wonderful too. That is something my previous system lacked..it wasn't something I knew I needed until this system came with it. DVR: The DVR has a whopping 2 Terabytes of disk space. I generally check the cameras periodically and I especially do when the delivery services (looking at you USPS and UPS) deliver to my house. I do this because I recently had a big brake kit sent to my house for the car my sons' and I are working on. The box was absolutely demolished. Upon delivery to the house I was able to confirm the driver carefully placed them on the steps but the box was already destroyed. The rotors arrived damaged. However, I was able to determine it was in-transit as it was that way upon delivery (we weren't home when they got delivered). So again, with the built in disk space, expandable they state to 6TB (which would be roughly 540 days by my math!), you will not be missing anything. You also have the ability to link your Dropbox account on the DVR but I personally will not being doing that. I do NOT want video of my home online-to me that just feels like an invasion of our family privacy even if it is my own Dropbox account...too many hacks and too much leaked data getting online. However, that is just my opinion on it and it is a nice addition if you want to make use of that feature. Quality: Going from 720p (old system) to 4K (this new system) I knew I'd see a jump in image quality. My 1080p gaming monitors weren't going to do this justice so I had a peak with the DVR hooked up to my 4K TV and man it looked really really good. I don't know about in your area but where we live the big box stores or even banks will post up screen captures of someone stealing or whatever and the image always looks like some camera from the 1980s with it's jagged, overly pixelated and just plain nasty looking image quality. With this security system there is NONE of that. The image quality really blew me away. Cons: If I had to list any cons it would just be that Swann and every security camera system sells the systems having higher channels available but lower cameras included. What I mean by that is this is an 8-channel capable system but comes with 6 cameras. Why not just do 8-channel & 8 cameras? But at the current price point of the system I'm not going to subtract any stars as the buyer is getting 6 cameras that are 4K capable as well as a DVR with 2TB of disk space. So it is very fairly priced...just a small gripe I have about the security cameras segment wide marketing/sales as a whole. Conclusion: Overall I am very happy with the system. I am learning new things each day as this system is night and day better than the security camera system this replaced. My "old" system is less than a year old but it feels really dated compared to this one. 4K camera systems are coming down in price and truly are attainable for those of us that don't have thousands of dollars to spend on a camera system. I already knew where I wanted the cameras, which for me is always the pain point, so I had a buddy come over and we were able to knock it out within a few hours. We are going to be moving soon and I do NOT hesitate to install this again at our new home-I actually can not wait to do so! This system can be as easy as you want to set up (more is less plug and play) or you can get really detailed by fine tuning it via schedules. If you are looking for a state of the art security camera solution with a built in DVR that won't break the bank then this system is it! The wiring is easy to do; the cameras and DVR look nice and sleek not something out of the 90s; the quality of the image is amazing & best of all we feel safer knowing we can see exactly what is going on by who, when and so on. I am really happy we were able to get this system. I'll be telling, as well as showing, all my family & friends this new system so they can buy their own!

This system is fairly easy to install providing you have access to the spaces where you need to run the wiring. I had a couple of locations that I had to run the wires outside and up the side of the house to mount one of the cameras. Fortunately, I could run the wire up the side of the chimney and it is not noticeable. From a quality standpoint, the product is solid, and the resolution is great! The night vision really works! We live in a pretty rural area with little lighting at night and I could see the night videos very clearly. The app is easy to use, but could use more features and details, but I am sure more functionality is on the way. Overall, I am very satisfied with this system and feel it offers the security I need to protect my family and it has the quality I require to make sure it keeps on working. Well done.

Wow. This surveillance system more than meets my expectations. It was so easy and straightforward to set up, and I loved getting SIX cameras. One of my favorite effects is the siren/police light when something is detected. I also like that the sensors are heat oriented to help prevent false alarms. And 4k video feed is just icing on top of the cake. My absolute favorite thing about this item is that it has a 2TB hard drive. I work in law enforcement and in the past year, security cameras involved in two different crimes were unable to catch any footage of the suspects; there was low memory and footage kept being recorded over old video. With 2 TB, I feel much more comfortable with that not happening. I can actually have more time to view video before I clear it.

If you are looking for a system to capture the best picture 24/7 this is the system for you! The system took about 1 and half hours to fully set up and run the wiring then to hook it all up. Once all hooked up the process to get started was very simple. I was able to have the system capture all angles with no issue and didnt get a lapse in captures as i have with other systems that run purely wireless. If I had to give any negatives is that the wires could be longer for some of the lines as it made having to place the base a little awkwardly. Other than that its ran like a champ and gave amazing pictures day and night!

This is a really great camera system. The picture quality is fantastic. Setup can be a breeze, or you can tweak the setting as much as you’d like. Even setting up and using the iOS app was really easy and intuitive. I really like the additional features like the spotlight and the siren. Of course, I hope I will never need them, but it’s nice to know they are there, and that they work really well if I ever do need them. The night vision is really nice, but I love that it gives you the option to also turn on the spotlight for full color night vision. Overall, this is a great system that I would highly recommend.

This is one of many CCTV solutions available on the market but offers the reliability of a wired connection to a local storage DVR, with smart features to rival even the most sophisticated WiFi smart cameras dependent on a cloud service to function. I’ve owned several wireless camera systems, and even continue to use another wired CCTV solution in an office space that requires a subscription-based fee to access remotely. In the package you’ll find four 4K cameras, four 60 ft cables to connect the cameras to the DVR, the DVR with a 2TB HDD installed, the various manuals/warranty guides, Security Stickers for windows or doors, a mouse, and mounting hardware for the cameras. The beauty of this set is that it is expandable with four more connections available, and there isn’t ANY fees for using the smart features of the DVR to remotely access the system. As you can guess, the installation is a bit more involved than using a wireless based system. However, you benefit in the long run with a more reliable and higher quality connection to your DVR for recording. If you’re not comfortable running wire into your home from outside, or going through the process of figuring out placement, I would definitely recommend reaching out to Geek Squad to schedule an install or another reliable installation company in your area. I benefited from having a preexisting system installed, and simply had to fish the new wire into place, and mount the new cameras. Once you’ve connected the DVR system to a TV or monitor with an available HDMI port, you’re ready to begin setup. The unit will walk you through a surprisingly easy to follow process of camera positioning, and account setup. The SWANN app is a straightforward setup and is fairly easy to use. It has the basic features of streaming your live feed, viewing motion alerts, and even setting off the siren and lights. It provides an easy to view interface, with easily recognizable buttons for the various features during use. The picture quality of the cameras, even in low light, was exceptional. The included red/blue lights trigger when the camera detects movement, after which it lets out a loud home alarm like siren and turns on the flashing lights. You can schedule when this happens, so you avoid accidental sirens during business hours or when you're sleeping at night. The motion detection on this system also seemed a lot smarter compared to others I've used. It did an exceptional job detecting actual movement, such as vehicles, people, and the random dog running down the street, while doing an even better job at ignoring false movements from trees/plants and bugs flying in view. This is apparently accomplished by the system’s ability to detect heat from things you actually care about. I was amazed at how many fewer notifications I was receiving, as it continued to outperform detection on any system I was using prior to this one. With the system connected to a 4K TV, it’s easy to see just how great a picture these cameras offer. I often found myself switching inputs to the DVR, just so I could check to see what my dogs were doing in the backyard or viewing the motion alerts for the various people or pets that walked into my driveway area. Overall, there are a lot of pro’s to owning this system and I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to secure their business or home. From the ease of setup, the app, the absence of any subscription fees to monitor, to control the system using the app and Google or Alexa, the superb motion detection, and expand-ability. This easily outperformed many Wireless solutions I’ve used, and offered the rewarding feeling of viewing a lossless picture from the cameras on your 4K TV.

The hardest thing about using this system was getting it installed. I am a pretty good do it yourselfer and did finally get the system wired correctly and up and running. Sure that an electrician could have done it much faster. The cameras in this system are all HD and all have spotlights and voice capability. The sound is not great but not terrible either. The DVR is the brains of the system and comes with a mouse that you use for the set up and to do various things with the system. The dvr will need to be located near your home's internet router because it will connect into one of the LAN ports on the back of it. (If your router does not have multiple LAN ports you will need an ethernet switch to connect the DVR to the network.) I have used wireless cameras in the past and their set up is much easier but the quality of picture and sound are not as good as this wired system. I wish that the system had a built in back up battery or something so that the system would still be operational in storm outages or if a burglar cut the power lines to the camera or home. The siren is pretty loud and will definitely catch the attention of neighbors and would be thieves. I could not get the system to work with Google Assistant/Google Home and have reached out to them for help. Great system. Has 8 inputs so you could add a couple more cameras if you needed too.

This new setup from Swann is going to be perfect for those who are interested in introducing a wired security system into their home or business, but do not want to break the bank in doing so. I think where this Swann security system hits the perfect balance is the inclusion of 4 cameras to get you started, but you are left with 4 more channels with which to add additional indoor or outdoor cameras! One of the first things I would recommend in installing these cameras is to decide before you get into it whether you are going to hire a professional or do it yourself. If you do end up doing it yourself, make sure to have an installation plan. You are not just going to want to launch into drilling holes and running wires. You are dealing with wired cameras here, so it is worth your time and effort if doing a self-install to go ahead and draw a diagram or write down a list of how you want your wires to run through your attic, where each camera would be best to mount, etc. I live in a 1400 sq. foot single story home, so It was straight forward for me to choose my front porch, back porch, garage door, and side yard as the spots I wanted my cameras monitoring. Just note that the field of view (FOV) is 90 degrees whereas some cameras are 120 degrees, so expect a higher quality image of a narrow FOV and make sure to install your cameras accordingly. As it goes for the actual install, this is a truly complete all-in-one kit that Swann is offering. Down to an HDMI cable, an ethernet cable, the mounting hardware, and even a mouse for navigating the user interface in the DVR, they did not leave anything out! It is so easy to install when you know or figure out you are doing, particularly with amount of length they give you on each of the UL cables. The generous 2TB storage of the DVR is good for up to a year of recording they say. As a nerd, they say it can support up to a 6TB HDD, so I would be excited to upgrade the HDD to a Ironwolf HDD so as to really max out the recording databank of this camera setup. It is also worth mentioning that the 4K image of the cameras puts to shame my old 1080p wireless cameras I used for security. Overall, I think this is going ot be a big seller for Swann and Best buy. What is represented here is an all-inclusive entry point into the wired security camera world that is expandable for further expansion of your camera coverage later, without breaking the bank now. These cameras are very easy to set up. My house is 1700 ft.² and I did not need extra wiring. I like that you you can adjust the cameras up and down and depending how you mount them side to side. I would 10 out of 10 recommend them. 

The Swann Enforcer provides good security protection with clear pictures. The system while wired is a good system for homeowners. The system offers robust coverage. It is good to know that robust coverage can be obtained in order to give homeowners as well as apartment renters peace of mind knowing that their property is secured at all times. I am elated to know that Swann has offered 8 channels along with 4 cameras that can be used indoors as well as outdoors, which provide plenty of options for placement.

Well I’m not a fan of going to attics due to my fear of spiders :) so I did the next best thing and had my brother go in there. He finished passing the wire over 200 feet inside the attic which was not hard at all from what he said and what I love is there is zero wires showing up. (The little bit that would go from the ceiling to the command center I covered up with basic white tv cable concealer. The outside wire is also not visible as it’s on the crawl spaces or edges and you can’t see it at all. So ya I cheated and had someone set it up but honestly it didn’t take long at all and was pretty straightforward install. Quality of the picture is nice! The change from night time (night vision) to normal color mode is great, love the ability to take snap shots, turn on and off controls from my iPhone. I did not experience any issues with the app and once I messed around with it I found it to be... simple and not in a bad way. Negatives: I had to reposition one of the cameras (outside) as it was so close to the outside lanai light that it was messing with the night vision feature. I did this myself and it was just a matter of repositioning (had been plenty of cable in the crawl space to pull through and move about 24”). Overall my first Swann product and I can’t say I have any issues or concerns at all, makes me mad I paid monthly for similar products for years.

I am in love with this camera system! I have tried 4 other brands from small to large companies and the Swann is by far the best I have used yet. The quality of all the components are great so far, thick plastic, quality wiring and the main box looks great. Wiring a system like this is very time consuming but Swann includes 85% of the materials, routing the wires through walls with boxes is on the consumer. I ran all my cameras through a central port I made at the front of my home that I could easily route the wires under the facia of the house. Camera picture quality is a true 4K and watching it on my 40" Samsung 4K TV in my office is what I needed. I plan on adding the 4 other camera channels soon as well. Nighttime video looks great, faces are easily seen and there is no lag, even live ony TV screen like it is with other systems. The super large 2TB hard drive made it 16 days running 24/7 before it started to overwrite for myself. I have it set to record non stop because our intersection is an accident haven and I like to post the videos online because I am just that guy. I highly recommend the Swann company for any camera systems, especially this one. Yes, hardwired takes time to setup but you do not have to worry about your internet going down and you losing something being recorded.

This system was easy to set up. It was our first time installing one and everything was fairly easy. The picture is great quality.

Oh where do i start. I would trust my EX wife with my credit card before i trust these to protect my home. July 2021, i was given this DVR8-5680X 4 camera as a wedding gift, and less than 6 months in one of the power cords "wasnt providing enough power" to the modem and had to switch the camera cord with the modem cord. It started working again, but beeping every 20 minutes. About 5 months after that, the other cord went bad so i replaced them, but then it wouldnt connect to my tv. Just shows a little red "power icon" next to HDMI1 source. I called their tech support and talked to them for about an hour and they told me to delete and reinstall the modem to my phone. Still wouldnt connect to my tv properly but it worked on my phone except for one camera that just disappeared from my system. So i recently bought some computer monitors to set it up, thinking it was the tv causing issues. Still wouldnt connect. Contacted their tech support team and their resolution was connect it to a tv. So i did and it still didnt work. He tells me to unplug it and plug it back in, still didnt work after 7 attempts. He tells me my tv is broken and to contact the manufacturer. So i plug in a super cheap amazon system i had to buy to use in the mean time until i got "the better system" back up and operational. That system wprked flawlessly so the tv isnt broken not to mention its a Samsung TV purchased about a year AFTER the cameras. After about another hour on the phone he decides to tell me the modem is currupt and i would need a new one. So if you would like a security camera system that you have to replace power cords every 6 months and a modem you have to replace every 2 years and a clueless tech support team that just wants to get you off the phone and not assist in any way, by all means. This is the one for you! 600$ is a lot to throw away on a product you'll replace unnecessarily soon after purchase.
