Ok if you dont want to 'set it and forget it'

Periodically one of the ports in the back will stop working and I'll have to move a camera to a different port. While IP rated, the cameras (if placed outdoors) are like sponges and will take on water and fail. Also SWANN customer support is horrendous and not US based, which makes communication a bit challenging.

Geek Squad doesn't explain all the functions after the setup. If you think you will find a good comprehensive user manual or videos on line, you will be disappointed. The camera quality seems to be sufficient. You can record video and tone. You can also use the speakers to communicate. Set up is a little bit complex. Unfortunately, you cannot purchase an extended protection plan from Best Buy with this system.

Great camera setup with tons of features

Movement is captured way smoother than the conventional DVR style systems as well. Facial recognition and a few of the other features are admittedly complicated to set up correctly, but it can be done relatively easily if you watch a couple how-to videos.

I received one very large box with 4 or 5 smaller boxes inside, each of which contain various components well package to prevent damage during shipment. The instructions were very descriptive and detailed, but there was a minor issue when I started to use my custom made ethernet cables. After contacting the manufacturer we discovered that there was a small difference between the standard practices of custom or off-the-shelf ethernet cables. Be certain to keep each cable separate and dedicated to its appropriate camera in order to get the best results. This minor issue would never present a problem to 99.9% of the typical homeowner/purchaser of this item but please contact the manufacturer should you decide to attempt to custom installation yourself. Any homeowner should be able to install the system themselves, but when it comes to a highly customized installation, leave it to the professionals. The image quality is fantastic and when paired with my Samsung 4K television it was actually quite shocking compared to other security camera systems on the market today. Anyone familiar with the system would probably start to snicker and laugh at the "typical" security camera footage like they show on television when they ask for public assistance in trying to help the humanlike figure on the screen. The images captured with this system are hands-down the best I have seen and I can actually recognize people's faces from 20 feet away from the camera with no problem, when maximized to full screen image that distance would extend to 40 or 50 feet… Maybe more. I purchased the 16 channel, 10 camera system so there is still plenty of available upgrades and expansions that could be made in the future. Excellent investment and I would by again if and when the time arises.

With regards to cabling, our NVRs should work fine with most ethernet cables you can buy off the shelf, however if you are running your own custom cable lengths and terminating each end, it is important that those connectors on each end are put on properly in order to eliminate interference & other issues. Most electricians and professional installers will be very experienced at this and have all the right equipment to terminate ethernet cables properly.

Worst camera purchase.

The quality of the picture is bad if anything moves faster than a sloth, it has good detail only when something is stationary for longer than 5 seconds. The internal HDD gave out after 6 months so no video recording and never heard back about a replacement. One of the fans is so noisy that I had to unplug it to keep me from going crazy. The app isn't bad but could be better, even on great wifi it still takes a minute to load up even 3 of the cameras. For $1900, when I bought it, I could have bought 8 of the Arlo Ultra and stuck with what I already had. Better picture and 30 days of records. If i could return this for a refund I would do it in a heartbeat.

I've had three rounds of cameras installed outdoors by Geek Squad. They work for a week or two then start "blipping" on and off before going permanently offline. After a month, 3 of 7 installed cameras were dead. Best Buy replaced the cameras, and then the same thing happened again. Getting support from the Australia based company isn't terrible, but is a slow process due to time zone difference. Definitely do NOT use outdoors.
