This blue october cd is hit or miss, listened to it once so far, and right now I'm not pleased with it, compared to their older albums this one falls short.

I got to hear the interview with Justin (lead singer/songwriter for the band) as they played segments of the tracks. Normally I like to form my own opinion on song meanings as they impact and relate to everyone differently but i was interested to hear what he had to say. I agree with the other review - this release does not have the edge the earlier works do, but then again, the band is in a different place. Justin was going through a messy divorce, custody battle for his daughter, drug abuse issues, mental illness struggles... He has now cleaned up and is in a much happier state of mind and the songs reflect this. The song Hard Candy reminds him that the lure and downward spiral of recreational drug use is always close. Even though it is a departure from the bands other works, I really love the album, even more having heard Justin reflect on each song and what they meant to "him".

I love Blue October. This album is a lot softer than most and I listened to it more than once before I really fell in love with it, but it is much better than their last album but not quite where Foil was. However it is a good album, that I was very pleased with. Worth a buy.

I have to say this is one of the best CD's I've bought in quite a while. Usually I find myself skipping song after song trying to find one I like... Not here.

Lost the angry, edgy sound that was their hallmark

If you liked the raw, angry, edgy sound of Blue October on Approaching Normal, Foiled, Consent To Treatment, etc., odds are you won't like this disc. If you liked the softer, more pop sound of AMIA, then odds are you'll like this disc. For me anyway, it's unfortunate that they have lost the sound of their earlier work.
