A Love Letter to Nintendo and the Best Buy Team

I’ve been a Nintendo kid my whole life – from blowing into NES cartridges to camping out for the original Switch – but the Nintendo Switch 2 launch at Best Buy was the first time I actually felt like I was part of a moment. I showed up for the midnight release, coffee in hand, and the energy in line felt like a mini Nintendo convention. The Best Buy staff didn’t just “handle” the crowd, they hyped it with constant updates, answering questions, organizing the line, and somehow keeping everything smooth and friendly even with a store full of half-sleeping, overexcited fans. When I finally got home and unboxed the Switch 2, it honestly made my old Switch feel like a prototype in the best possible way. The 8-inch OLED screen is gorgeous – colors pop, blacks are deep, and handheld games look like they’ve had a remaster just from running on this display. Docked, the new NVIDIA chip and DLSS upscaling let games hit higher resolutions with smoother performance, so titles like Mario Kart World and Pokémon Legends: Z-A look crisp, detailed, and way more “current-gen” than anything I ever saw on my original system. The best part is that it still feels 100% like a Nintendo system. The hybrid design is intact – I can go from the TV to handheld in seconds – but now with better battery life and more power under the hood. My old Switch games carry over and run great, and knowing that my existing library and accessories still work is huge. It feels like Nintendo rewarded long-time fans instead of leaving us behind. I also have to give massive credit to the Best Buy team at the midnight launch. They managed the line fairly, checked preorders efficiently, and even took time to talk to us about bundles, accessories, and protection plans without ever feeling pushy. They clearly knew the product, could speak to the differences between the original Switch and the Switch 2, and made sure everyone walked out with what they actually needed – console, case, screen protector, maybe a Pro Controller – so the night didn’t end with “I’ll figure it out later online,” but with “I’m going straight home to play.” As a die-hard Nintendo fan, this console feels like the payoff for years of loyalty. As a Best Buy customer, that midnight release reminded me why I keep coming back for big launches: organized, knowledgeable, and just as excited as the people in line. If you’re on the fence about upgrading, take it from someone who waited in the cold at midnight: the Switch 2 is absolutely worth it – and Best Buy is the place you want to be when that box finally has your name on it.

Console works well I just bought it for a single game and it’s been working wonders every single time! It’s a pretty decent upgrade from the original switch. Battery does not last that long but I mostly played it docked so not a problem for me but it might be for others.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is honestly one of the best upgrades I’ve seen in a long time. It keeps everything I loved about the original Nintendo Switch, but improves it in all the ways that actually matter. First, the performance is a huge step up. Games run smoother, load faster, and look noticeably better whether you’re playing handheld or docked. It finally feels like it can keep up with modern titles without sacrificing that classic Nintendo charm. The display is another standout. The screen is brighter, sharper, and more vibrant, which makes a big difference when you’re playing on the go. Colors really pop, and it just feels more premium overall.

The Switch 2 is much more power than the original Switch, obviously! The graphics are beautiful and I’ve been having lots of fun with the games as well! The only downside is the battery is significantly worse.

A worthwhile upgrade (with some flaws)

Upgrading from the Switch 1, the Nintendo Switch 2 is an amazing piece of technology that takes what’s great about the Nintendo Switch and improves upon it. Internally, the Switch 2 is double the power of its predecessor with a newer CPU and GPU, triple the RAM (12GB), 1080p on handheld/tabletop mode, 4K HDR support when docked, and so much more. When playing Nintendo Switch games on it, most of them run with enhanced resolution and faster load times, effectively making it a Switch 1 Pro. That being said, despite every good thing that I’ve mentioned so far, there are certain aspects that can hinder the overall experience. The battery life is only around 2-3 hours (compared to 4.5-9 hours on the Switch OLED), 256GB of internal storage isn’t enough for storing dozens of digital games without expanding it via a microSD Express card (which, by the way, it doesn’t support regular microSD cards for storing games), but most importantly, the fact that Nintendo is charging $450 for this + $70-80 per first-party Switch 2 game. If you’re very selective with what games you get or are just looking to upgrade for the long-term, the Nintendo Switch 2 is a good console and can be a worthwhile upgrade for Switch 1 owners. You just have to be very careful if you’re looking to save money or prioritize which games and accessories have the best value for you.

It is a nice update from the original and plays older Switch games better while having a couple first party titles that are a must play. It does seem a little more modular and tighter, but it’s definitely faster. The controllers are slim and like the controllers on a Wii. The storage capacity is based upon the card that you buy and insert. Still an improvement from Switch 1.

Bought the Nintendo Switch 2 for my son and it has been an absolute winner. He loves it so much that we practically have to drag him away from it! The gameplay is smooth, the graphics are impressive, and the versatility of being able to play both on the TV and handheld makes it even better. Build quality feels solid and the controllers are comfortable. Highly recommend for any family with kids who love gaming. Worth every penny!

This is the better way to play Nintendo Switch games because of the bigger screen and better resolution. Same UI makes it feel like a pro edition of the console but it has its own games so I wish they changed it a bit to keep it fun. The controller are much better like you can actually not feel like a mouse when playing sideways. Speaking of mouse, I have not used the mouse much but it does like a great tool for shooters or daily life sims (e.g., MP4 or ACNH/SV). I think the storage would have been fine if certain games would have not taken up almost half of it. If you plan on getting beafy games like the Final Fantasy 7 remake games, then get you or somebody an Express data extender (I forgot the name lol but you have to get the express version to use). Performance is decent for what it is, ports take the biggest hits with some games struggling with frame rate. I would look up which games are tolerable for you to play if you are interested. I think it’s an improvement on the original Nintendo switch with only a couple of flaws from me.

I've been LOVING Switch 2 so far. Much better build quality over the Switch 1, really liking that aspect a lot here. Really nice performance even in handheld for all kinds of great games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, No Man's Sky, Subnautica, etc. Very pleasantly surprised. Was thinking it would've ended up being underpowered but I'm perfectly satisfied. Display looks great to me. It's a huge system tho, hanging out playing it in handheld can be uncomfortable due to the weight and size making it hard to keep a good grip in certain positions for me but a lot of people seem to be totally chill with it. I ended up getting a Dbrand Killswitch 2 for it so it felt more comfy for handheld and now this thing has my other systems collecting dust. If you're on the fence, that's understandable cuz I was too. But it's worth it!

Amazing experience for Family and Adult Gaming

Nintendo Switch 2 has become a truly versatile console for our family. I use it both to play together with my child and on my own, and it works perfectly in every scenario. We often play Mario and Sonic together — both on the TV at home and in handheld mode. The ability to quickly switch between docked and portable play is extremely convenient. During trips and even in the car, my child can keep playing without any complicated setup. As a father and adult gamer, I also really enjoy playing Fallout Shelter directly on the touchscreen, without using Joy-Cons at all. The touch controls feel natural and comfortable, almost like using a tablet, but with better performance and a larger screen. Right after purchase, I applied a screen protector to prevent scratches when docking the console and bought a carrying case with cartridge holders, which makes storage and travel much more convenient. Before the holidays, I also purchased GTA, Red Dead Redemption, and Cyberpunk from Best Buy. The console handles a wide range of games extremely well — from family-friendly titles to full-scale games for adults. Overall, Nintendo Switch 2 offers the perfect balance between family entertainment and serious gaming. One console, many ways to play. I’m very happy with the purchase and highly recommend it.

I love using this switch as a hand held. I also have the Oled. Both are great, but i can tell they really thought out the design of this swich 2. My only gripe is that its pricy. Loved putting DBrand skins on it.

Nintendo has finally delivered what fans have been requesting for years: a more powerful handheld console. This is the first time the “Switch” concept truly lives up to its ambitious vision. Backward compatibility is a solid feature, though a few minor tweaks could enhance the experience even further. The device feels premium—no longer toy-like, unlike its predecessor. The only downside is battery life, which maxes out at around 2.5 hours in any game. In that regard, the original Switch with the OLED model offered much better endurance.

Im impressed. Playing nintendo games at a higher frame rate is absolutely amazing. The only complaint i might have is that the battery dies so fast in handheld mode. Maybe they couldve done better on that end of it... BUT i play with it docked so im not going to be the one that complains.

Console is good so far except for the battery life. It seems to run games better compared to the OLED version which is as expected. The exclusive games such as Pokemon Pokopia and DK Bananza make it worth the purchase.

This is a step up from the original Switch; larger-ish screen, better connected controls scheme, even a faster load time for most games. It’s amazing to play AC: Shadows or Cyberpunk 2077 on a switch and still match the 60fps and VRR as that of a PS5. While it’s not perfect, it’s close to being a awesome good console/portable gaming system. While some switch games aren’t fully backwards compatible (yet); Nintendo did state they are working on those games. But for the price (which is also questionable…), I can see some will be okay with the purchase. Also the SD card, you can not use; you will have to get a SD express card!! For me? It’s a very good console and would love to see its potential further.

he Nintendo Switch 2 is a solid upgrade with impressive performance and a sleek design. Gameplay is smooth, and the new features make it feel like a true next-gen handheld-console hybrid. The only downsides are the limited launch library and battery life that doesn’t quite match the OLED version. Still, a great system with huge potential once more titles roll out.

I'm glad I chose the Nintendo switch 2 as opposed to a stationary gaming system. I hooked this up to my TV and you can toggle between using the device itself and the TV by simply removing the device from the dock and taking it with you, the game seamlessly travels along. So that's a big plus for me. As a retired senior, I was looking for something to amuse myself and this did the trick. I purchased an additional controller because I didn't know at the time that it comes with a controller attachment and the two side controls are removable. So I returned that item. Also, the salesman sent me home with an additional HDMI cable which was unnecessary because it already comes with one from Nintendo to hook up from the TV to the device. So lots of pluses. Also, it works with just about all of the Nintendo switch games. I have noticed some glitches in the software with certain games that come and go but I enjoy the games just the same. I look forward to seeing what new games become available this year. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the device is a touch screen for many of the functions. It gets a thumbs up from me. My only complaint is that there weren't any instructions and I had to refer to YouTube videos for hookup which were very helpful. It would be nice if the guys in the store we're trained on these things so that I could have gotten the hook-up information from them. Regarding hookup, just pop out the back panel on the bottom left where you see the little opening. The plug holes are in there for the HDMI. And there's a port on top towards the right where you flip it open to put in the game cards. You just push down on the game card and it pops up by itself. Gently insert and press to insert the game cards. You will have to press until you feel it click in. I've attached some photos, hope this helps.
