If you don’t have a switch or if you have a friend or wife like me that wants to okay Pokémon or mariokart or really anything. This is the best one to get. It’s small and feels great in the hands as well as playing any switch game with ease. It charges fast and has a battery life of about 3-4 hours. It’s better to get the original switch if you wanna play on the tv but if you just want a mobile great console this is the best of the best!

Full disclosure: I already have a Nintendo Switch (second generation) and I love the system. The Nintendo Switch Lite is meant to address some portability issues I had with the original, which is why I decided to give it a go. First things first: Portability. The original Switch always felt pretty good in my hands. However, it was always a bit cumbersome to handle sometimes and I would not play for extended periods. The detachable controllers are nice, but they feel a bit too loose and clunky. I have small hands, so I tended to feel uncomfortable while grabbing the unit, which now feels like a tablet. I hardly ever used the screen touch feature, especially since holding it on one hand feels unbalanced. So, upon handling the Switch Lite for the first time, I really was surprised as to how light and small the system is. I must say that it does kind of feel like a toy. I am actually able to put it in my pants’ pockets most of the time. I picked the gray/white system which looks a bit less “flashy” and fits my style. It has a matte finish that seems to be fingerprint-resistant. The unit features one solid body with the controls a bit more congested. However, this to me proved much more convenient. The shoulder buttons feel just like the original, but I can cover them easier. The action buttons are a tad “springier” and the replacement of the directional action buttons for an actual D-pad was gold. The screen is great, being perhaps a bit brighter (or bluish?). While the resolution is the same (720P undocked), it seems sharper because of the smaller screen, making a higher PPI (pixels per inch) display. Every game I tried looks gorgeous and plays just as expected. The battery life is about 3-4 hours depending on what game you are playing, the screen brightness and if you are connected to WIFI. It’s worth mentioning that the Lite does not have rumble features. So, the big question is: If I already have an Original Switch, should I get this one in addition, replacement or skip entirely? This is a complicated question and really depends on your gaming habits. If you play games on the go, on the couch or when in bed most of the time and do not own a Switch, I highly suggest considering the Lite, you would love it. If you would like to play titles on the TV, even every once in a while, I would recommend reconsidering, since the Lite does not have the “switch” feature and cannot be docked. If you play co-op or party games, then the Lite is not for you. While you could use wireless controllers in addition to the unit’s, the screen is so small that everyone must be within a couple of feet to see it and the Lite does not have a kickstand. Actually, several games do not work well or at all on this unit. I had a horrible time playing some puzzles in Breath of the Wild that involved motion controls. In the end, I must admit that the Lite has become the go-to console for me -and I have all, including a high-end PC. I usually play on the couch when watching a TV show or while on YouTube, when I’m at lunch at work or simply right before I go to sleep (not sure how healthy this is but…). One big gripe I do have is that I wish they had included Bluetooth compatibility since I mostly use wireless headsets. I mean, even the PSP had it. I do have a dongle, but it adds to the form factor of the unit. So, I guess it worked for me and I am very happy with it. Full console experiences in the palm of your hand? Yes, please! But honestly, it can be a bit hard to justify buying it if you have the original Switch, or worse, if you have the newer version (much longer battery life). I’d say just go try it; hold it in your hands and visualize your experience with it.

    Fun Portable System

This device is so much fun! I was looking for something portable for trips, flights, etc., and this proved to be a great investment. It lasted the whole flight from DC to Colorado, and still had half the battery-life left. I will say, something VERY important to consider, is if you are purely looking for a portable device then the Lite version is great - but for me I ran into instances where I wished I could play certain games on a big screen (TV), so I inevitably traded up the Lite for a normal Switch. It's purely preference; I do believe the Lite is more stable and durable from a "portability" standpoint. The Switch's removable joycons (remotes) do feel slightly loose, whereas the Lite they are built in so you don't have that issue. Because of this I think the Lite version may be more "kid-friendly" due to the durability. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone wanting to purchase a mobile gaming system. Brought back all the old Gameboy feelings from childhood! **PSA - buy an SD card when you get this; 128G is usually fine. The software downloads for games takes up a lot of space.

I bought this to play some of the older Nintendo games on the Nintendo eShop, and I haven't been let down. I really enjoy the family plan that Nintendo offers—$80 a year for up to 8 people is a great deal. The battery life is amazing; my son uses his more than I do because his original Switch has much shorter battery life compared to mine. I would definitely recommend getting a bigger SD card, as one game can quickly fill the 32GB of onboard memory. Personally, I enjoy the retro games more than the newer ones. Works great with my phones hotspot so i am able to always have internet when needed.

Super light weight. Battery lasts alot more longer then your original switch. More of a personal use instead of trying to share it on the big screen.

I prefer the Lite over the regular Switch!

My brother has a regular Switch and I have always wanted to get one, but I didn’t want to spend so much money on a system for my TV when I already have a PS4. When I heard Animal Crossing New Horizons was coming, I started researching the Switch to find one I would like. When I stumbled upon the Lite, I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but I actually prefer it over the regular Switch. I like that I don’t have to worry about the controllers or having an extra port I have to keep to charge it and the controllers. And the nostalgia I get from having the Lite is insane. It’s like playing an oversized Gameboy Advanced and I love it. I also found that most games are easier to play on the Lite because you don’t have two separate controllers with drift or any of the unnecessary hard motor skills movements you have to do with them, and personally I like playing games solo. The Lite was definitely the best choice for me. I only have Skyrim and Animal Crossing and I’ve put over 200+ hours into them combined. I would recommend the Lite to anyone who wants to save some money and doesn’t mind only playing handheld. That’s really the only difference.
