The Nintendo Switch – OLED Model has largely exceeded my expectations—especially as someone who enjoys gaming in handheld, tabletop and TV-docked formats. Right out of the box, the 7-inch OLED screen stands out: the colors are rich, contrast is sharp and the improved brightness really enhances portable play. Whether I’m immersed in story-driven games or racing friends in local multiplayer, the visuals feel more premium than previous versions. Performance-wise, it handles pretty much everything I throw at it—downloads are fast, loading screens acceptable, and switching between modes (handheld/tabletop/dock) is seamless. That said, it’s important to note that the core hardware (chipset/RAM) isn’t a leap over past models, so for ultra-high-end performance you won’t see a dramatic jump. For the vast majority of games, though, it delivers smooth and enjoyable gameplay. The battery life is decent — I’m getting a solid 4–6 hours of mixed use (handheld gaming, streaming) under moderate brightness. If I push it harder (higher brightness, wireless multiplayer) it drops closer to the lower end. So yes, it’s very usable on the go, but if you’re looking for “all-day unplugged” gaming you may want to keep the charger handy or opt for a break between sessions. I especially appreciate the wider adjustable kickstand (for tabletop mode) and the dock’s built-in wired LAN port for more stable online play when docked. These upgrades show that Nintendo has paid attention to the smaller but meaningful details. The internal storage has been doubled compared to older models, which means fewer immediate worries about running out of space—though a microSD will still be smart if you’re downloading a lot of games. If I were to mark two modest quibbles: First, the Joy-Con controllers and general ergonomics remain largely the same as previous models. So if you’ve had drift issues or hand-fatigue with earlier Joy-Cons, you might still feel those here. Second, because it’s more refined and premium, the value proposition is stronger if you’ll make full use of its handheld/tabletop strengths; if you mostly play on your TV and already have a Switch, the upgrade may feel less essential. All things considered: if you’re buying a Switch for the first time, or you love gaming on the go, transitioning to handheld/tabletop regularly, the OLED model is definitely a worthy pick. It pulls together thoughtful hardware refinements, a fantastic screen, and flexible modes of play—making it one of the best hybrid consoles out there right now.

    Vast Improvement for Handheld Players

I have been a user of the original Nintendo Switch for years now and its easily been one of my favorite video game consoles I have owned! I was excited to get my hands on the new OLED switch, and so far I have not been let down! ORIGINAL VS OLED (HANDHELD MODE) - Simply put, the new OLED switch is better than the original in almost every area! Right out of the box you can see the big improvements and its well worth it. - The larger screen makes handheld gaming feel more immersive and having small bezels makes it feel more modern. - The OLED screen is truly a game changer. It’s insanely brighter, the colors pop which really makes games feel so vibrant, and just overall creates a much better experience in handheld mode. - The kickstand is SO much better! Its the entire length of the switch and can be set at different angles. Just overall makes it feel a lot more sturdy and is what the original switch should have came with. - The speakers are also much improved! They are frontward facing and produce a better more impactful sound. - The OLED switch comes with 64 GB standard which is also much better than the 32 GB on the original switch. - The improved dock on the OLED looks fantastic! Just some minor cosmetic improvements makes it look better, and I’d say overall the switch fits in their slightly more snug and secure than before. OLED IN DOCKED MODE: - The biggest complaint by everyone is going to be how the Switch OLED does nothing to improve the Switch’s performance in docked mode. There is no 4K or even HDR support which is very disappointing. - That being said, if you use the Switch in docked mode 100% of the time than you likely will not see any benefits from the new OLED switch besides the larger storage. FINAL VERDICT: - For me, I use the Switch in handheld mode a lot. So the OLED Switch is an absolute home run for me. The screen, speakers, kickstand, just about everything about the handheld experience has been improved and I have really enjoyed using it. - In my opinion, the OLED Switch is only $50 more than the original and completely justifies this price increase. Any new user who has never owned a Nintendo Switch should absolutely buy the OLED Switch! And if you already own the Switch but are curious about making the jump to OLED, you will not be disappointed whatsoever!

The joycons crapped out. It has always clicked and popped since opening, and now theyre dead. And apparently this is a very. Very. known and present issue. Nintendo needs to offer replacement joycons for their lack of quality control.

As a lifelong gamer, I've had my fair share of consoles, but nothing comes close to the Nintendo Switch OLED. This isn't just a gaming device; it's a masterpiece of engineering and design that has revolutionized how we play and experience games. The OLED screen is a game-changer (pun intended). The colors are vibrant, the blacks are deep, and the contrast is stunning. Playing games like Breath of the Wild or Mario Odyssey on this screen is like seeing them for the first time all over again. The larger 7-inch display makes handheld mode even more immersive without compromising on portability. But it's not just about the visuals. The improved kickstand is sturdy and adjustable, making tabletop mode a joy to use. The enhanced audio makes games sound better than ever, even without headphones. And let's not forget the increased internal storage - 64GB means more games at your fingertips. The versatility of the Switch OLED is unmatched. Whether you're playing docked on a big TV, handheld on the go, or in tabletop mode with friends, it delivers a top-notch experience. The seamless transition between modes still feels like magic, even years after the original Switch debut. Nintendo's game library is second to none, with a perfect blend of beloved franchises and innovative new IPs. From intense single-player adventures to chaotic multiplayer fun, there's something for everyone. Is it perfect? Nearly. The Joy-Con drift issue still persists, and we're all hoping for a more powerful "Pro" version someday. But these minor gripes don't detract from the overall excellence of this console. In conclusion, the Nintendo Switch OLED isn't just a great gaming console - it's a testament to Nintendo's commitment to innovation and fun. It has brought joy to millions and continues to redefine what a gaming device can be. If you're on the fence about getting one, take the plunge. You won't regret it.

Now that I’ve got my hands on it, I regret not purchasing the oled model when it launched. I’m upgrading from the OG switch launch model, and the improvement in the screen and battery life is significant. On paper, the screen is only slightly larger, but in person, it’s significant. With the oled, the colors really pop, not nearly as washed out looking as the original switch, and it gets much brighter too. It’s just gorgeous. The current hardware is also much more energy efficient. The battery life vs the launch model is roughly doubled, and I had just put a new battery in mine 6 months ago. The kickstand is actually useful, where the OG felt like it would break off just opening it. If I have to have a complaint, it’s that the air intake vents have been moved to the bottom edge and little rubber feet have been added, I guess to prevent it from sliding on a surface. I often like to tuck my pinky fingers under the bottom when playing handheld, and these changes make it less comfortable to hold this way. It’s a minor thing that I’ll get used to, and is hardly even worth mentioning when you consider the other upgrades. The transfer process was a real headache, you have to have both consoles side by side to transfer, and then download a special app to transfer your animal crossing island. There are also some games where saves will not transfer under any circumstances. Then your sd card has to be erased and all games redownloaded, 300gb with in my case. This is not the fault of the switch console, but it is Nintendo and their archaic online system and DRM. If they had their act together the process would be as simple as signing in on the new switch, moving over the sd card with all games, and just syncing the cloud saves. Update: After more use, I found 2 other areas where this oled model falls short. I’ve found the game card slot cover is impossible to open without some sort of thin tool to stick in there and pop it open. There is no way to grip it or get a fingernail under it. If you’re mainly digital, like me, then it’s not a concern, but if you only buy physical versions of games this will likely irritate you. Also the wifi still sucks. The original switch was notorious for its poor wifi connectivity, and I can confirm it has not been improved in the oled model. If anything, it seems worse. The new one drops the signal and fails to connect in locations where the old one worked.
