Good phone for the price, but with two issues

This is a great little phone. The comments are written with the low price point in mind: - It's reasonably fast, does most things an average user would want (I can't comment on games as I don't play games on the phone). - Windows is great. I own or have tried the latest iOS, Android, and Blackberry and I find Windows Phone to be my favorite operating system. The Windows Phone universe has fewer apps than iOS or Android, but all big ones are here. - Issue 1: Battery life. It's not bad but it's not great either. I read the news on the phone, have 5 email accounts that are being checked every 15 minutes, send about 50 texts/day talk about about 1 hour/day. I usually need to recharge by 4-5pm. The charge is FAST. I recharge a bit when driving and it lasts till the end of the day. - Issue 2: It's antenna/receiver seems to be weak. I spend time in a location where T-Mobile's coverage is a little spotty and this phone seems to fall back to 2G or roam on AT&T's network. When using the SIM with a different phone, even the Lumia 521, I do not have that problem. Unless the device I have is defective, it definitely does not communicate as well with the towers as my Lumia 521 or other devices I have tried it with. In the city, that's not an issue. All that said, it's a great convenient little phone and I find no pressing reason to switch to another phone.

I was sceptical about the windows phone, but was pleasantly surprised. Everything works very smoothly, especially the map and gps service is much better than google maps. The problem with WP is not just the lack of apps, but also that most apps have less functionality than their android and iOs counterparts. Many companies make apps for windowns but do not optimize them. The phone itself is great value for the price. The main drawback is the bad screen, it's unpleasant to read on the screen for a longer period.

Only OK as a backup phone.

This is my first Win phone as I owned mainly Anroid phones in the past. As soon as I started looking for my usual apps on the Nokia 530, it didn't take long to become disappointed. Some commonly used apps (like FB messenger, Spotify, Pandora, Tumblr and Instagram for example) are full of bugs and you WILL feel bottom of the barrel when it comes to getting a response from customer service. It seems like the makers of the apps have win phone users on the lowest possible priority and you'll realize that you're not the only one when you read the mass of reviews requesting/demanding updates and fixes. Now, on to the good parts. it is very straight forward and easy to make calls. The speaker is good even though the mic can be better. I can hear others just fine but they sometimes have trouble hearing me. Buying some headphones with built-in mic remedied this. The interface, I like. The processor speed is decent, I've experienced little to no lag when swiping although it takes a while to load apps (which is fairly common in phones of this price range anyway). Game performance is good nearing excellent. I can use WhatsApp perfectly. The camera and GPS apps are decent. The screen brightness isn't that great nor are the colors so don't expect anything sharp and vivid during the daytime. Overall, I would recommend this as a backup phone ONLY if your aim is to make calls and text. The speed is nice but it has a long way to go when it comes to satisfying a heavy app user. Given the chance, I'd switch this out for an android. It is worth the $20 but not more.

Easy to use and set up. Lasted a year before breaking down (because I dropped it a lot). All my previous android phones lasted only a year as well but had lots of issues before finally dying a slow painful death full of software and hardware glitches. This phone never had software glitches and only broke after about 2 dozen drops, the last drop breaking the power button so I couldn't turn on my screen and therefore use it. I was impressed by its durability and stability. The best thing was the price. Yes, it only lasted me a year, but so did all of my previous android phones and this phone was less then half the price of those. Great phone for a great price.

OK, I just got the phone today - it was very easy to activate, i did it online with a simple pay as you go plan for only $3.00 a month. I will add that you DO NOT need to buy the separate T Mobile activation kit as it comes with one in the box, this wasn't clear to me when i made the purchase. For me it is a replacement for a flip phone I lost last week and it was only $20 more than a simple replacement flip phone! So far, I love it, it is easy to use and learn, but you will have to download the PDF owner's manual from nokia as the instructions that come in the box are VERY limited. T mobile was great and even transferred the balance on my lost phone towards my new account! I'll be very happy with it as it is primarily a voice phone but nice knowing I have other capabilities.

The entry level device performs as expected, if not better. For this price, I would assume to forego a few features. To be honest, this is a great device as a starter phone. I might want a better battery, but it works like a gem.

The Nokia Lumia phone is a simple great smart phone the only inconvenience is the fact that it does not have a front camera but it is a phone you will have no regret using. With great GPS and camera, for the price go for it.

These days not having LTE is hard to deal with. Ended up going with the 625 Nokia with LTE and faster processor. But those in need of probably the most inexpensive phone they can get that is worth owning on prepaid should definitely consider this as long as you are ok not getting LTE.

We bought this phone on sale for our grandson. Couldn't beat the price and it does everything he needs it to do. Had no trouble finding a huge selection of inexpensive cases online for it as well. Overall a great value.

    Windows Is Quite Surprising…

I got this smartphone due to giving my old Android smartphone to my dad because his iPhone wasn't working anymore. I heard a lot of bad rep about the Windows operating system for smartphones, but I wasn't going to be one of those people who would complain about it. I gave it my all honest opinion with a clear mind set that this will be the best mobile OS. I was... quite disappointed. By no means, Windows 8.1 for mobile smartphones is a fantastic operating system to use! It's much more easier to handle than Android or iOS. The simplistic of having only two screens (swiping left and right) makes it an ideal device for any first timer smartphone users. Showing the device to my parents made them jealous and wish they had the same one I did due to how easy looking it is to use and handle. BUT, one thing that's not easy to use is their God forsaken Settings menu. It's a wall of text in random orders with a font that makes you dizzy as you scroll down. I wished Microsoft made the Settings screen more easier and simpler to use. Cortana is a great piece of voice assistance to use, but does not live up to the likes of Google Now or Siri. It does its job well, but doesn't give as much details or information as Google Now. It's still in its early stage (I hope?) so I wouldn't expect anything speculator about this piece of technology that Microsoft hypes up to. The Microsoft Store is also another disaster. It's filled very poor design and outdated apps. When you compare the Microsoft Store to Google Play or App Store from Apple, it just looks like a silly place. There are many copy cat apps that are filled with fake surveys that leads you to scam sites and such, Microsoft does a very poor job on removing these type of things. The smartphone itself, the Nokia Lumia 530 is a great handset to use. It has a great processor that can handle "most" of your apps, but it can shutter sometimes when you turn on your phone and look at the notification tab. The display looks like paper, so don't expect anything crisp and clear from this device. The battery life is okay, it'll last you through the whole day, but you'll have to charge it every night if you want a full use of it. Camera, I have nothing to say, it's so bad that I can't use some camera apps in the store due to the Lumia 530 not having any auto focus. In conclusion, I believe this device is made best for people who has never used a smartphone before and it would make a very good first time smartphone for them. If you're an Android or iPhone user, I would just keep using those. Reason why I switch to this handset instead of another Android smartphone was due to the price. Windows phone are cheap, Android are in the middle. Great cheap device for first time smartphone users or elder people, not so true for teens or kids.

No Front Camera, Limited Apps. Good otherwise.

Something many people miss about this model is the fact that it is missing a front-facing camera. Therefore, you cannot video chat with it using programs such as Skype, and you cannot take "selfies" if that is your thing. Many people just assume that ALL smart phones today have front cameras, but not always. The lower-end Lumia phones in the 500 and 600 series typically do not, so be aware of this. Regarding apps, you will find all major apps in the Windows app store such as Facebook, Twitter, Weather Channel, etc. But keep in mind that secondary apps are many times missing. There's a very good chance your home security company, Bank, or company that has remote access to home security cameras, do NOT offer a Windows app, among others. So if you only really need the major stuff you're fine but if you want to use your banking and security apps, there's a good change they will not be available on this platform. Aside from those two (perhaps major) issues, the phone itself works fine, has decently clear call quality, average but acceptable battery life so long as you're not a power user, and is smooth in operation. It will work for those needing a basic smart(ish) phone, but doesn't offer all of the hardware or app choices that Android or Apple products do.

The Nokie Lumia is a great started phone for teens/pre teens, would not recommend for older folks who have a hard time with electronics. App-wise, it disappoints, as not all major apps are supported by Microsoft.

I am glad I bought this phone and I paid even less, it was 34.99 on sale. I was looking for a bluetooth music player and I did not want to pay over a hundred dollar for the cheapest ipod so I bought this phone and made my best jump. I am using this phone to listen to music and I can go online wherever has free w-fi and it can be used as a GPS. I download the Massachusetts map and I can be detected wherever I go. It's good to find places when walking. The map locator does not need to be online, you can walk like 30 yards and press a button on the phone to find out if you are walking on the right direction.
