good phone except for battery
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know if its just my phone -- defective battery or internal short -- I charged the battery prior to set up or use of phone. I get maybe 12hours use of it making 5 or 6 short calls and have wiffi on. I turned everything off and still only get about 14 hours of stand bye. I will assume it's a bad phone or battery did get best buy protection so after one more battery charge and test will return for replacement. I picked this up because old phone 3 years battery was not keeping up and price of this wasn't that much more then cost of battery. I just use the phone as a basic phone -- I don't have data plan just prepaid voice and text.

Low end phone with low end performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this phone for my parents as an emergency phone and it is really not good at all. Yes, when compared to phones from a few years ago, this thing seems really nice but compared to similar phones in current generation, it really sucks and doesn't measure up. 1) SLOW - a very dated and inferior MediaTek single-core processor runs at 1GHz, MediaTek added their video/graphics expertise to make the UI very fluid, but as soon as start to launch app and navigate a webpage, you will realize how slow it is... Scrolling in Chrome browser is very jittery and skippy and re-rendering time when you pinch zoom is very very notable. Even my very old iPhone 4 feels much zippier than this phone. 2) This phone is "3G", as in HSDPA not HSDPA+ which T-Mobile markets as "4G", so you are topped out at 7.2mbps theoretical of the HSDPA protocol. It's probably OK given the phone's processor is very weak, it will probably not able to process the incoming data fast enough to take advantage of HSDPA+ 3) A strong point of this phone is the Quad-GSM band and Tri-3G band support, so the phone supports both 1900 PCS band and 1700/2100 AWS band used in America. This means if unlocked, you can use this on AT&T and as T-Mobile re-farm HSDPA/+ network to 1900 PCS band, it will still work. And in the meantime, you will still get coverage on 1700/2100 AWS band in those areas that are not yet re-farmed. 4) The display screen in my opinion is actually pretty good contrary to CNET's review of this phone. My unit was actually really bright, too bright, such that I had to turn the brightness down. At 233ppi, the screen is pretty sharp, certainly not Retina-display-sharp, but everything is very very readable and clear. I have to hold the phone very close to see the pixelation, which is quite good for normal use on a low end phone. I think CNET has a bad unit, or is setting the expectation too high for such low price phone. 5) The touch screen is highly inaccurate and not tuned. Touches are not registering correctly or with reasonable precision, such that the same scrolling motion in Chrome will either barely move or scroll crazy fast. This also is a problem for the phone dialer, it's very easy to accidentally dial the # key when holding the phone with my right hand. The cheeky part of my right palm seems to actuate the # key even though it's not physically touching any of the key area for #. 6) Speakerphone speaker is so distorted, it's basically not usable. There is a very small and weak speaker being used here, but it's not acoustically or mechanically optimized, such that any audio will rattle the casing. Strangely, the handset's main speaker seems to be louder than the speakerphone speaker. 7) The proximity sensor is a mess - it's used to sense when the phone is close to your face, as in on a call, so it will turn off the display. However, the sensor is not optimized at all. Unless fully pressed against your face, any slight gap between the phone and your face will trigger the phone to turn the display back on. I noticed the display would turn on/off very frequently even though I am technically holding the phone next to my face. When the display is being turn on, there is a corresponding buzzing, which is very very irritating and distracting for the call you are on. 8) This low end phone strangely has 2 mics and use the 2nd mic for "noise-reduction". Well, the algorithm probably was written by a DSP newbie, not only does it not do a good job as reducing noise, it actually distorts your outgoing voice and causes clip in and clip out. This is so bad that your voice sounds better with this useless feature turned off. I think Alcatel knows that hence they have a feature checkbox to let customer disable this feature but is shipped with it turned on by default. Overall, this phone is under-powered by today's standard and lack optimization and refinement in every way. If you are not a die-hard Android fan, you are better off spending the same money on a Nokia 521 Windows Phone, or pay a little more for a much much better and well-optimized LG phone.

Low price basic smart phone
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For such a low price you cant complain about much. Its a basic android smart phone. I found the camera wasn't too great but again for the price you cant expect much. The device is easy to use if you are familiar with android. I did find the back was difficult to get off in order to install the battery and SIM card.

Great Bargain Phone For Light Users
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Being cheap, I am on t-mobile's pay as you go plan. I spend no more than $100 year using phone. I turn off data - I find free wifi for data is just about everywhere and, if not, I can wait to get texts or downloads until I'm in a wifi hot spot. Textfree for texting is great too. This phone is pretty decent for the remarkably low price. Only downside is the camera --it is only 5MP, fixed focus and no flash. Other than that great. Got around the fixed focus camera for barcode scanning using the 'pic2shop' app which can read blurry upc codes. Nice workaround. For the price, this phone can't be beat. It does 90% of what a flagship phone does at 20 percent of the price.

So disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this phone initially as a backup but ended up switching to it full time. I can't even begin to say how pathetic this phone is. -the keyboard works with the browser when it wants to. Want to type on Facebook? Search for something on Google? Can't do it quickly. Most of the time I have to wait for it to decide to come on the screen. I don't mean one or two seconds either. - it freezes sometimes and shuts the browser off other times. Daily. - the camera quality is pathetic. Beyond laughable. -the phone holds very little. I don't even have a handful of apps loaded and the space is already dwindling. Would I recommend it? Maybe to people I don't like especially if they used to have an iphone. This is a large step down. I'm on my old iphone now and it can't even compare.

excellent prepaid phone for not alot of $$
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first android phone, and since it's prepaid it is great. No complaints at all - it has a sim chip and everything you need to get started. Lots of apps available and if you activate it online, Tmobile has a $30 a month plan with pretty much everything unlimited (except for talk time, I believe I get 200 mins a month for the $30), but unlimited data and texting. Great phone!

MIGHT be good for a 9yr old
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.poor screen, poor camera, slow internet, slow processor. honestly it is just a very poor phone. it would have been a "good" phone back in 2008, but not in 2014. to me the phone is meant for small children as their first phone and/or for people that dont exactly have $200-$800 to spend on a better phone. its a viable option for an emergency back up phone. but most phone fanatics have a designated back up phone that is far better than this junk. if you want a cheap phone, go to a different carrier and get their $20 phone (its on the same shelf at best buy). there is nothing about this phone that i like or would recommend. don't waste time or money on this phone.

Good phone for a beginner.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchase this phone to replace my Samsung Sidekick 4G, The phone is alright when it comes to the features like the camera, I understood it was only a 3G phone when I purchase it I know I was not getting a fast phone. I only used a few days before I went back to the Sidekick like it better then the Evolve. All the apps work fine on it I had no problems on that point. I really would not recommend this phone save your money and purchase a phone with 4G speeds.

Value for Money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got two of these for my kids recently. I was not expecting a great deal considering that they are only $50. However, the phone exceeded my expectations. It was very responsive, great graphics and comes with many features. My kids love them. If you are looking for a budget entry smart phone, this might be for you.

Can't stand it after one month
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought that phone because it's cheap, however, that's what you paid for. Terrible Camera, slow apps running. Not enough power to run the apps developed today. So better pay more money to get a better brand like Samsung. That's phone now put in the drawer only consider for spare phone.

Good phone for those with a low budget
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good phone for those who use phones for calls, text and don't do much on the phone. It is sufficient for those looking to get a phone temporarily or are low on budget.

Battery Life is awful
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can't review the voice call quality because it 's battery life when using wifi is so bad that I boxed it back up for a return without even activating it. This phone lasted for about an hour and a half of web surfing on wifi with the screen brightness turned all the way down. The phone functioned fine for the limited time it ran, but the battery life renders it useless.

Could make call but not disconnect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upon getting the phone home we placed the sim card in and got it set up.Made the first call and as soon as the call connected the screen went black and would not come on even though the phone was connected. The only way to end the call (even after the other person hung up) was to take the back off and remove the battery. Thought it was a fluke so did it again with the same result. Called T-mobile and was told that was an issue with this phone. Needless to say it went back and my daughter got my old LG and I upgraded to a Galaxy. You get what you pay for!

HATE THIS PHONE
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't get my messages until days later. The persons who left the messages doesn't show up on my call list as if they even called. This phone makes calls without me touching anything. I turned it on this morning and put it down, I DID NOT touch the screen. Next thing I hear is "Hello? Hello?" It was my neighbor at 6 am. Yesterday I called my boyfriend, 5 second phone call. Later that night there is a call to 411 made seconds after I hung up with him. I did not make that call, and it's not even on my call list, but I'll get charged for it (and the other 3 411 calls that I did not make). The worst part? I paid $89 a month ago and now it is on sale for $49 at Best Buy. It's getting thrown out, but if I could at least figure out how to get the sale price, it wouldn't hurt so much.

sucks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the phone since April and with in 5 minutes I realised the volume on it sucks with head phones. I had super based head phones and I barley heard my music. It dropped calls it would over heat it calls people right after I hang up with them and then it calls people if you have it in us pocket. I've had to take my battery out millions of times to just end a phone call because the screen wouldn't light up. It doesn't even say anywhere that it has a front view camera. And half the time u can't get good pics even if you have the light on it has no flash or anything
