This is a good phone to buy for a minor, or to use as a backup phone, but nothing to be taken serious.

Low cost android from Chinese using Alcatel name

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First, let me clarify: Alcatel is the French phone company that bought Lucent (the research part of Bell Telephone after the breakup into parts including verizon, ATT, etc.) However when you lookup the brand name you discover that the Chinese company TCL has paid to use their name to market phones using the label "Alcatel One Touch", so the "Alcatel One Touch" is the brand and the "Fierce" is the product name. The good news is that this means you can buy the phone that Chinese in the largest phone market of the world are preferring to Iphones, HTCs, LGs, and Samsungs costing three times as much. There are some benefits: -more of a straight up android, latest version, like the nexus from Google rather than a customized interface -you can install apps on the sd card, which is way cheaper than getting bigger memory in the phone -you are getting a fast quad core and extended battery life since you don't have the feature bloat of the "feature rich" smart phones mentioned above. -you are getting a newer version of android that will run the latest apps with the most features faster -yes, you can replace the battery when it wears out, no problem -yes, it looks just like an iphone except that it says Alcatel (well, it has a 4.5" screen too (Iphones still only have 4" screens. this is more than 25% bigger (diagonal measurements have to be squared), and physical screen size is good for older fingers, dimmer eyes, and generally everybody benefits--even if the resolution is lower.) There are some compromises as well: -not much customization or extra apps. You will need to download apps you want from the google play store, including we discovered an alarm clock! -lower quality glass and screen. You probably need a screen protector as this is not the latest gorilla glass, and its a standard display type of a few years ago, not the latest super screen -lower quality cameras (did you know a separate company makes the cameras for all the phones and they are making huge royalties off every HTC, Samsung, LG, and Apple phone with the latest cameras?) The best use of this phone is for someone who wants an android smart phone at a lower price point. If you're reading this review, you probably are wondering if this is really the latest android (it is), if it really works and will last (it will, almost all cellphones are made in China these days at the same facilities by the same people), and what you are giving up if you pay one third the price (bragging rights, mainly.) Your best course of action is to play it cool--buy it, don't say much about it, and when people notice it, just shrug and say, well, it is the latest android with a 4.5" screen, but i know it's not as fancy as yours--I only paid about one third as much, but i'll probably buy a newer one in a couple years anyway. (I'm being charitable here, I actually paid about a quarter as much.)

I was a little taken back by the brand, but I decided for the price & specs of the phone I couldn't go wrong, & I was right. Big screen, adequate processor, expandable memory, & Jellybean are some pluses. I really don't know anything bad. I decided to use it on Family Mobile.

Just got this phone for my wife. Surprisingly i found it to be a great phone despite being a brand that I've never heard of. Much better phone than the LG Optimus L9 that i have. Allows for saving of apps to SD micro memory card, which is a rare feature for most phones nowadays. Love this phone. May have to buy another to replace mine.

Simply a great phone for the price

It come with android 4.2.2, with up to 32gb microSD installed, you can simply go to Settings->Applications-> "check" the app, and the pop up menu will give you option to "Install your app to SD Card". GPS, better reception than Garmin. NOPE! You do NOT need to turn on your wifi or data to get Sat Fix. I wonder why people buying GPS nowadays? ( I use Sygic from Play Store and sold my nuvi ) Call Quality and signal is loud and clear. I can't believed how loud it can be w/ no distortion! Now comes the bad stuff: camera and screen-sort of. Front-facing camera is pretty bad for self-portait. Rear-facing camera, adequate under day light, but NO auto-focus, means no Bar code scan. ( if you are a retail shopper ) TFD-screen, again, I believe Alcatel use TFD to cut the cost and save power consumption. ( evidently, the battery does last long time!) Viewing angel is rather NARROW, but, it is pretty Sharp. For the price, I wonder if one can find a better NON-contract phone with 4.5" screen, Quad Core, 4G AWS 1700mhz, Strong GPS, Strong Signal, Clear and Loud call quality, battery life and slim, light weight?

    Love Fierce One Touch

I got this phone 2 weeks ago and was not to happy with it. Then I read a couple of reviews and other people did not like the phone. They recommend the evolve phone. So OK I took it back and tried the evolve. Huge mistake it was a whole lot worst. So I took it back and got the fierce back. So happy I did after playing around with it and reading the manual I was able to figure out more things about the phone and I really like it now. So this one is a keeper. I just wished it had one touch dialing instead of keying all 10 nbrs. But still a great phone.

Worst phone i ever bought. From day one right out the box the power button barely works. you have to push it in with your nail for it to respond. The speed is retardedly slow. Reception is horrible if you are indoors ( i have Tmobile prepaid, but other phones i had with them work great). the camera takes a pic a second after you hit the shutter button. the 5.0 mp claim is bogus.. looks more like 0.5 megapixels. screen is super low-def. I dont even have it for a month and the camera cannot connect. when i go to camera mode all i see is a green screen. This phone makes me upset every time i use it. I dont even want to return it i would get more satisfaction throwing it against a wall. I would highly reccomend this phone to someone i dont like.

I use this phone on FamilyMobile (by T-Mobile)

I turned off and sold my unlocked AT&T Samsung Android phone and switched to FamilyMobile. I picked up this phone at the advertised price and am very happy with it. I tried a Samsung Galaxy S4 but found it cumbersome, touchy, and WAY too expensive for what it did. This 4.5" phone is great - I like it better than my old Galaxy S2. It is easier to read and the logic of their management layer seems more straight-forward.

Overall really decent phone. It gets great signal and is very well made. My internet is extremely fast and camera is pretty good too. Its 10 times better than T-Mobile my touch which I previously had and went out within 5 months. Some things I don't like are that when browsing internet and pull down email icon, when going back it doesn't go back to browsing screen but to home screen. Also I've had to restart so phone would go into sleep mode. Once phone cut off by itself. Also battery isn't removable but performance wise its worth the $130 I paid for it.
