The game was not interesting. The game lags and you don't quite understand if you have never played before.

    Great port

Overall a very good port from originally a 360/PS3 game. If this is your first tales game, it's a good start as it's known as one of the best in the series alongside Tales of Symphonia on the GameCube. Incredible graphics for on the go and a likeable cast which is the most important part in any Tales of game. Standard Tales battle system which makes for a good action RPG. The only downside in this game on the switch is some frame rate drops when on the world map. Battles and towns are very smooth and for a game you can take with you anywhere, it's impressive to say the least. Dock mode eliminates most of the drops so if you're planning on staying home to play, you won't have to worry about any of that. One thing for people that have played this in the past, Bandai has added some new voiced lines for the English dub. It is a bit awkward as they never got Troy Baker to come back and voice these additions so they found someone that sounds similar. It's supposed to be bit awkward according to others but I personally haven't noticed it as of yet or I just haven't reached a point where it's apparent. Whether you are new to Tales or replaying, this port is awesome and hopefully it shows the interest of JRPGs from the Nintendo Switch crowd.

Another Great RPG to take with you anywhere.

This game used to be exclusive in the USA to Xbox 360. It's a beautiful cell shaded style jRPG with a mix of action and menu based battle system. It has a lot of voice acting, which was somewhat uncommon back in the day. A great cast of characters, and great story. One of the reasons I rate this so highly and prefer it over the PS4 and Xbox One. Is because as a portable game, this is a really meaty console jRPG. It's wonderful to be able to take these types of games anywhere you go these days.

The controls for this game is really horrible, Namco Bandai didn’t seem to put any work into refining the controls. Also the graphics aren’t nothing to write home about. I would pass on this and hope that they released the next tales game on the switch.

Great game with some frustrating flaws

I'm glad I played Tales of Vesperia. The characters and story are memorable. The game will take you on a great adventure with interesting lore and high stakes. The art style is also great, not nearly enough games go with the hand drawn animation look. It really shines on the Switch. Unfortunately this game is not without it's flaws. For an RPG there is sadly little control over character abilities or growth. There is no class or job system and the equipment is locked to specific people who can use the items and it is linear for the most part (each item is all around better or worse than another) so you can't buff a specific kind of stat with your item choice. The combat is fairly flawed as well. Early on it is almost exclusively button mashing. There are some interesting mechanics introduced later on but none of them really work. Standard creatures are often dead before it's possible to use them and they are never essential to use. Combat ends up being a matter of setting your strategy for the PC controlled characters, managing items, and button mashing. My final criticism of this game are the handful of significant difficulty spikes. There were several times in the game I was easily beating (almost boring) the monsters in the highest level areas I'd been to, then I went to a new area or encountered a new boss that was drastically more difficult. This forced artificial grinding. The lack of side quests made this grind extra tedious. Despite the above criticism the game was never boring for long. The story and surprisingly fun button mashing kept it interesting enough. Most JRPG fans will be perfectly happy with this game.
