I bought this in hopes i could get the same image quality as my sony lens but it didn’t come close. It’s definitely good for the cost but one thing you gotta remember is you get what you pay for.. I ended up exchanging for a 24-70 g master lens.

This lens has been a huge source of frustration for me these past few months. A great product in theory - but it has been incredibly unreliable. My Sony A7iii randomly stops detecting it, and when it does, I'm unable to record anything. (P.S. my camera is perfectly fine, it has never failed to detect my other third party lenses. And so, here I am, 1000 dollars in and with a lens that I can never rely upon to actually work. But it comes with a 6 year warranty. So I thought, no big deal, I'll just email them. The company asked me to fill our a repair form, which asked for the serial number of the lens. And guess what, no serial number printed on the lens. Awesome! Long story short, this lens has been a huge headache. It's brilliant when it does work, but that's an unpredictable IF. I'm writing this review during a scheduled shoot, on set, with the key light hanging over me since everything is paused because my lens just decided to not work again. I really hope Tamron does something about this (rather than asking me to pay for international shipping myself despite their 1000 dollar faulty product), Genuinely disappointed.

    #1 Travel Lens

Due to it's size it's my #1 travel lens! It's tack sharp at F2.8 and at the corners as well. Now, if you compare it to the Sigma and Sony 24-70 F2.8's then I'd say the Sigma and Sony outperforms the Tamron zoomed in around 3:1, 4:1. But who zooms in that much anyway? Also, the Sigma and Sony is way too big and heavy for travel. I love Tamron and their emphasis on smaller lenses. I hope they can make smaller F1.8 primes someday (hopefully F1.4's as well).

After looking at numerous videos and reviews I decided to purchase this rather than the sony 24-70. The picture quality is everything I thought it would be. It is sharp and clear. But the manual focus ring will not work on my copy. I've tried updating the firmware and have had no luck. This lens does me no good if it does not function correctly. Will be returning and saving for the Sony G master.
