The Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens has become a favorite among photographers and videographers for its exceptional balance of performance, portability, and affordability. Here’s a detailed review highlighting why this lens deserves its reputation:
Build Quality and Design
The lens is compact and lightweight, making it an excellent choice for on-the-go shooting. Despite its modest size, the build quality feels solid and professional. The lens features a weather-sealed construction, providing confidence when shooting in challenging conditions.
Image Quality
The Tamron 28-75mm delivers impressive sharpness across the frame, even wide open at f/2.8. Its constant aperture allows for excellent low-light performance and the ability to create creamy, pleasing bokeh. Chromatic aberration and distortion are well-controlled, especially considering its price point.
Versatility
This zoom lens covers a highly versatile focal range, from wide-angle to short telephoto, making it suitable for landscapes, portraits, events, and even product photography. Its compact design complements mirrorless camera systems, providing a balanced and ergonomic feel.
Autofocus Performance
Tamron’s RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) autofocus motor is fast, silent, and precise. This makes the lens particularly suitable for video work, where smooth and quiet focusing is essential.
Value for Money
One of the most compelling aspects of the Tamron 28-75mm is its affordability compared to other f/2.8 zoom lenses. It offers professional-level performance at a fraction of the cost of its competitors, such as Sony’s G Master series.
Cons
While the lens performs exceptionally well, some users may notice minor vignetting or slight corner softness at the widest aperture. However, these can be easily corrected in post-processing and are a small trade-off for the overall performance and value.
Conclusion
The Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens is a standout option for photographers and videographers seeking a versatile, high-performance zoom without breaking the bank. Its lightweight design, sharp optics, and reliable autofocus make it an excellent all-around lens for both hobbyists and professionals. Whether you’re capturing landscapes, portraits, or videos, this lens is a worthwhile investment.
Highly recommended!

Incredible Lens and Customer Service from Tamron

I actually own the first version of this lens which isn't sold anymore, but it has been incredible and lives on my camera shooting events and portraits 90% of the time.
By all accounts this G2 version is better in every way and I'll be getting it soon, but I'm writing this review because I also want to give 5 stars to Tamron's customer service.
All of their lenses comes with a 6 year warranty and they've been so great about honoring that, repairing my lens and replacing parts. I just called their customer service number and someone answered immediately to help me, you just don't see that these days!
My point is that you can't go wrong buying from Tamron, they have a very loyal customer in me.

I recently purchased the Tamron 28-75mm lens for my Sony camera from Best Buy, and I must say I am thoroughly impressed. This lens has exceeded my expectations in several aspects.
Firstly, the build quality is robust yet surprisingly lightweight, making it easy to carry around for extended periods without fatigue. The zoom range from 28mm to 75mm is versatile, covering wide-angle shots to close-up portraits with ease.
Optically, the lens delivers sharp images across the focal lengths, even when shooting wide open at f/2.8. The bokeh quality is beautiful, thanks to the 9-blade aperture design, rendering backgrounds smoothly out of focus.
I particularly appreciate its performance in low light conditions. The f/2.8 aperture allows for excellent light-gathering capability, making it ideal for indoor photography or evening shoots without sacrificing image quality.
Autofocus is fast and accurate, which is crucial for capturing spontaneous moments or tracking subjects in motion. It's also relatively quiet, which is a plus for video recording.
In terms of value, this lens offers a compelling proposition. Compared to equivalent Sony lenses, the Tamron 28-75mm comes at a more affordable price point without compromising on performance or features. It's a great option for enthusiasts and professionals alike who want high-quality results without breaking the bank.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase of the Tamron 28-75mm lens. It has quickly become my go-to lens for a wide range of photography needs, from landscapes to portraits. If you're looking for a versatile zoom lens with excellent optical performance and great value for money, I highly recommend considering the Tamron 28-75mm for Sony cameras.

I recently purchased the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. This lens is an absolute gem, offering exceptional versatility and stunning image quality that has exceeded my expectations.
Sharpness and Image Quality: The sharpness of this lens is phenomenal, even wide open at f/2.8. The details it captures are crisp and clear, making it perfect for both portrait and landscape photography. The colors are vibrant, and the contrast is excellent, resulting in professional-quality images every time.
Build Quality: The lens feels solid and well-constructed without being overly heavy. The zoom and focus rings operate smoothly, and the overall build gives me confidence that this lens will withstand regular use for years to come.
Autofocus: The autofocus is fast and accurate, even in low light conditions. It’s quiet enough for video work, which is a big plus for me as I shoot a lot of videos. The consistency of the focus is impressive, ensuring that I don’t miss any crucial shots.

I usde the original 28–75 for a very long time and absolutely loved it. This lens is a very nice upgrade to what was already an amazing lens. It’s somehow smaller and lighter yet even more sharp. The image quality is spectacular, the F2.8 constant aperture makes low light photography a breeze, and the size and weight makes it ideal for carrying around with you everywhere you go. A must have for any Sony user.

After debating on whether I wanted to go all-out and get the Sony 24-70 mm/f2.8 GM II - the fiscally responsible side of me erred on the caution and went for this - and frankly I have no buyers remorse whatsoever. The build quality is quite good. The Auto-Focus is actually very good despite some negative reviews in terms of low-light performance, and the color rendering is really appealing to me. Being able to shoot at 75mm almost acts as a proxy for not having an 85mm for portraits to some extent. It's a great lens, and would highly recommend getting this and a Sony body (vs. their horrible kit lens) if joining the Sony line of cameras for the first time!

I bought this over the kit lens and I will say…. 100% worth the extra money. The f2.8 is amazing for the blurred background effect and it has me craving so much more. I honestly don’t think photography would have been this fun with a kit lens. Plus it is 28-75mm and that is a great starting distance. Best beginner lens!

I picked this up when I bought my Sony A7 IV instead of the kit lens. It cost only a little more, but the jump in quality over the kit lens was absolutely worth it. It’s a great lens.
I also own the Sony 24mm and 35mm G Master lenses, and if you’re mainly posting to social media, this single lens is really all you’ll need.

This lens is a must have for someone who wants versatility for travel and event photography! It may not be as wide as a 24-70, but it for sure gets the job done and is almost comparable in sharpness to the Sony 24-70 gm2! This lens is great for budget and if used correctly will produce outstanding raw photos!
I use this lens almost 90% of the time for portraits and event photos. Save the money with this lens and use your other budget towards a wider zoom lens or camera gear!

Such an awesome lens. It did great for my photos and videos. Images came out sharp. The autofocus was able to keep up with what I was shooting. Down side, no optical stabilization. However, with the in body stabilization of my Sony A7 IV, a steady-ish hand, and planning out the shot before hand, got me amazing shots. Definitely a great lens for the price.
