It is plastic, and the plastic sliders you use to adjust the positioning of the slant were terrible. I was also hoping I could put it on my lap and put the laptop on it, but the plastic grid on the underneath of it was very uncomfortable so if you were to buy it, you could realistically only use it under your laptop on a table or desk. It was not particularly sturdy and I was so disappointed in it, I did return it.

The downside is that it needs more power to use the USB ports on the back. Also it is a little noisy more of a high pitch sound as it runs off the usb from the computer.

But the fans...they were noisy and totally distracting. The only way this piece has any value is as a stand without power. And for that, it's way overpriced.
