First TCL in the house

This new TCL is replacing a broken Vizio 50". The TCL is practically a plug n play. I already had an existing Roku account. The Roku menu is very simple to operate. My dad loves the easy access to the timer. As this 50" is his TV. He loves the picture quality and basic sound from the TV speakers. He loves and gives it a thumbs up

A very good TV choice for a Roku smart TV platform

I was familiar with the Roku interface which is wa-a-ay better than the Vizio Smart TV interface I have on another TV. This Roku TV has AirPlay/Cast capability, integrates the live TV channels with the free internet channels, and easily allows removing the subscription "apps" (Netflix, Disney+, etc) from the Home Screen. Removing subscription apps is important because my TV is in a vacation home that is often occupied by friends and relatives--logging in with their own credentials is not an option (or at least not a good idea), so there is no need to present the subscription apps on the Home Screen. Guests can always AirPlay/Cast from their phone if they want to view their personal streaming subscriptions. The TV comes with a Roku remote, pretty much the same one used by standalone Roku products. I set up the TV so it defaults to the Live TV "app" when it is turned on and also removed all the other TV input options from the Home Screen. In addition to the live on-air channels, there are a gazillion free internet TV channels that show up in the Guide. This is good, but the downside is that the only way to access any channel is by scrolling through the Guide (accessed by hitting the "left" arrow on the remote). The Roku remote does NOT have a number keypad on it, so you can't jump to a particular channel. (This is apparently an on-going criticism on Roku user forums). PS: This is a 4K TV so picture quality is actually quite good, especially for a relatively low-cost TV.
