Blacklight issue after 14 months, do not buy!

This TCL ROKU 55" TV is a faulty product with a manufacturing defect that causes the backlights to shut down quickly and without notice. I purchased this TV for $349 in November, 2018 and immediately had it professionally hung on my wall. Had settings use a "flashing time" screensaver with intent to maximize lifetime of my product. Also purchased Roku Surround Sound speakers which I wirelessly attached to the TV for $149 - these worked great, but are useless until I purchase a new TV. Came home in January, 2020 to a black screen. When you power the TV on, it shows a 1 second flash of the red "TCL * ROKU TV* screen, then nothing. Audio works when using the remote to adjust the volume. Tried powering off then on, then unplugging and waiting, finally attempted a factory reset per TCL's "troubleshooting" instructions. None worked. I could faintly see the visuals that are supposed to appear when holding a flashlight to the TV. TCL does not care or attempt to engage me with a solution to this. Their position is that I should have purchased a longer rebate with the retailer than the 1 year warranty that comes with the product. Mind you, I've spent $500 plus tax only FOURTEEN MONTHS ago on this product that has been kept in mint condition. If this backlight issue happened after 7 years, or even 5, I'd have accepted that. But TCL puts out products that offer an unacceptably short life. This is a manufacturing defect, not the fault of Best Buy/the retailer! I've searched this issue on Google and found a disturbingly high number of people with TCL product issues similar to mine. Bringing it to a TV repair shop will cost over 50% of the cost of the TV, with no warranty of future success if fixed. There are at-home TV repair kits for sale for $60 plus shipping and accompanying YouTube videos that are mindblowingly complex on fixing motherboards, "T-Con boards" or the LED lights. In short, I have a huge, useless black screen in my living room until I buy a new one and pay also for IT to be professionally hung. TCL = faulty products, awful customer service and no fair solutions. Buy a more reputable brand!

2 Broken Screens in 4 days and no replacement?

I went to the store on Friday, May 22, 2020 to pick up my 55" TCL. They told me to order online and pick up at the warehouse about 20 minutes away. I ordered and received notification my order was ready. Waited 2.5 hours at the warehouse and they loaded up my truck. Got home, took the TV out of the box and there is a crack all the way down the left side of the screen. We take it back to the local Best Buy and they delivered a second TV to our home the following Monday. I had the delivery team open the box, and yet another crack (bigger) across the entire screen. I called customer service on Monday and said I had to wait one day for my order to show delivered. Tuesday comes, 4 hours on the phone with Best Buy and they are out of this TV and I keep getting transferred, put on hold, and still nothing resolved. I am trying one last time today, yet another 1.5 hour hold on the phone. I don't think they count on customers being persistent!

TCL – Roku TVs a year ago I bought a TCL TV at Best Buy that was advertised as Roku ready. A year later the TV locked up. And the only way to reactivate it is to BUY a Roku account. I am out over $400 for this TV, unless I buy a Roku account.

      Hello,

It is completely free to activate the TV, and completely free to create a Roku account. I am afraid it looks like you accidentally went to the wrong website for activation, and somehow went to a scam website. As I said, it is completely 100% free to activate your TV. If you would like help setting up your TV we would be more than happy to walk you through the process. Simply reach out to us at [email protected] with your contact information and a description of what you need help with. Someone will get back to you as soon as they can.

    Worst Tv I've had.

I've had this tv for about 2 years at this point, it was great at first. but now that its getting "old" I've had nothing but issues. Random turn offs, screen goes fuzzy and tv shuts down. Speakers no longer work, and dark spots all over the tv.

Do Not Buy this TCL Television

I purchased my TCL 55” Roku TV on November 11, 2018. On November 30, 2019 it failed completely. TCL Customer Service told me, “Touch luck. You are on your own.” So, now I am back to watching my 11 year old Insignia TV. I will not buy another TCL product.
