Prior to buying this TV almost one year ago, I read reviews about the glitchy manner of Google TV included on this device. It worked fine for a few months and had great picture. Then, for no reason, the TV stopped connecting to the internet although it shows excellent internet strength and all other devices in my home are working with internet test speed of 300-400 MBPS. So every time I shut off the TV, it takes roughly 15-20 minutes to figure out how to connect it to the internet again. Sometimes it is restarting, sometimes it is pulling out the plug and letting it sit for a few minutes, a few times “forgetting” the network in settings and reentering it…and then there are other times when I go to my Samsung TV in the basement from 2012 and watch it instead out of frustration. There is no consistent fix for the TV issues. I troubleshot the internet provider, router, and TV. The trouble and reviews associated with this TV is 100% true and I should not have purchased it. So buyer beware and move on to the next if you can afford it.

I bought this TV for 400 dollars and would and have recommend it. I love the google home tv, which is pretty much android tv but better. I am pretty satified with the local dimming and HDR performance, which is the main reason I bought this one. Im going in for a ARC soundbar and ill be happy with my living room set up for another decade.

My husband and I went into the Best Buy (1000 W North Ave, Chicago) certain that we would buy a certain TV they had in stock, a Hisense, but one of their associates - Eren - had some excellent suggestions and we ended up going with this TCL. We’re very very happy with the TV. It’s crisp and bright enough that it is clear even during the day in our bright bright living room. And my husband loves it for his video games. I want to also specifically give Eren major props. He was knowledgeable - both in technical and practical ways - and took time to explain the tech and give his opinion as to what would work best for what we’re looking for. He also offered suggestions as to what TVs we might want to pay a bit more for in a way that it did not feel as though he was trying to up-sell us, but rather give honest advice as to what would give us the best product for the price we were looking to spend. We did end up spending a bit more than we had anticipated, but I’m really pleased we did so because I think we ended up with an amazing TV. When I mentioned we were considering upgrading our sound bar in the future, Eren also took the time to play us a few options and I’m planning to eventually go back to Best Buy and pick up one of the ones he suggested. Brightness and picture is pretty good. Not as clean as the Samsung Q80t that I have in the other room, but decent. The reason for the 2 star rating is that, similar to a reviewer of the 65” version, the google platform is glitchy. I am having to restart the system frequently because many of the apps will just stop playing content. They will give the message, “the video can currently not be played. Try again later….” This has been true for Netflix, Disney plus, PBS, and most other apps. After a restart it seems to work okay for a little while, but if I turn off the tv, come back an hour later, the same problem will persist.

Excellent TV in my opinion, especially for this price point. I'm an Apple TV guy so I can't speak to the Google OS, but I highly recommend the TV for the picture quality. I almost bought the Roku version (55R635) until I learned that this model (55R646) supports WiFi 6 as well as 4K/120Hz HDR 10+ over HDMI 2.1, all of which the 55R635 does not.
