    Got a decent deal and needed a TV; this one fit the bill. Looks nice and was easy to set up. No TV really lasts these days so we did get the warranty, but hopefully won't need it.

    I researched this TV 55R646 on YouTube before making the purchase. I must say it is a stunning TV just out of the box. Following the on screen setup was easy and was quickly connected to my google account and WiFi. I am also using the TCL8312 sound bar (3.1.2) which gives somewhat a Dolby Atmos effect given that there are not the additional speakers. Note that if you use a headset connected to the earphone jack, then turn off the sound bar. As stated earlier, the picture is stunning without making adjustments. However, the TV did get locked up such that it had to have the power pulled. Since the TV is mounted on the wall, I just flipped the electrical box breaker switch.

    4k and full hd videos play great, but video quality on older videos is bad; I'm ok with that. I'm also considering getting a sound bar to enhance audio. Didn't feel the Dolby effect.

    The tv for the most part is nice but the Google TV is an absolute nightmare. It's glitchy and nothing will successfully cast with the chromecast options. Also some apps just run into errors and wont work such as "Vudu" etc. Ignoring all that it has a pretty good picture quality (with some tweaking). Hoping for a google tv update or something because it's honestly trash. Kind of wished they offered a Roku version for the R646 but they don't. Just glad I bought it at a sale price. Wouldn't pay the full price for it.

    Delivery promises are not reliable

    Purchased on 15th. Part of the reason I went with Best Buy is the expected delivery date was next day, the 16th. Scheduled delivery for the 16th and verified. Best Buy called on the 16th and said there was a delay and would deliver on the 17th. Ok, no big deal. Nothing came on the 17th, no notification. Went to the website to check status and the status relayed that I had no delivery scheduled at all and needed to set one up. I had to call them to find out there was another delay and had to reschedule for the 20th. Evidently the delivery promises are not reliable.

    the screen is beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous, we watched Ran on it and it was a wonderful experience. The sound is okay but the intelligent sound occasionally picks the wrong mode. The software is a bit glitchy on occasion but we haven’t had any major issues.

    55" TCL 6-Series 55R646 Pre-update Review

    Panel is beautiful and blindingly bright. Looked almost as good as the Samsung QN90A on display but the TCL costs less than half the price. I also got lucky and did not have a panel with any dirty screen effect. I had minimal software issues. They weren't unbearable but they popped up every once in a while. The Google TV UI is lag free but Pandora and Vudu crashed 1 or 2 times. Other apps like Youtube, Hulu, Netflix, and Disney+ ran with no problems. Another strange glitch is my phone doesn't see the tv when I want to cast an app unless the tv screen is on, (quick start is enabled). I just received the new update today but have not been able to test anything. Definitely worth the purchase for such a beautiful screen for a very low price.

    Stay away till TCL fixes google software on this series. Even changed settings don’t stick. Apps crash randomly. Pathetically slow response on the UI. You press a remote button and have to wait till it figures out what to do. They should have gone with a bluetooth remote. The IR remote is hit and a miss. And yes I have the latest November 15th firmware. I will wait till Jan 16th to see if further updates resolve the issues else back it goes. Save your money and buy the older roku series or set this TV up as a basic TV that disables the smart tv functionality. I usually don’t curse, but TCL better get this sorted out rather than clear them in a fire sale.

    Has Potential to be good TV

    This 55" TV has good potential to be a great budget TV. The Good: Good inky black level with no blooming, comparable to Oled black. Very bright TV with good contrast. Good 60Hz motion outside of gaming and movie mode. The Bad: input signal drops for a quick second (screen turns completely black) then picture content reappears with HDMI input signal logo top right corner appears momentarily. Shades of green color instead of yellow. Cant correct this color. Cant use game mode due to screen flickers and judders. Must game outside of game mode and movie mode and VRR disabled to get smooth 60Hz motion with no flickers (very nice). If you use it as simracing monitor where you have to sit within 4ft away, you will see panel pixels like CRT TV. Very noticeable and annoying on light color images like sky blue, light red, light orange, etc. Detail and clarity could use more sharpness adjustment. At 100max sharpness, its still not enough to show highlights. Native apps like youtube drop to main menu. I cant recommend this TV at all. Sorry TCL. Try harder next time.

    Worst experience with best buy

    Bought this item on black friday sale and scheduled a delivery for 2nd week of December. Also got a call 2 days before delivery to confirm my address and other details. On the day of delivery no one showed up so had to follow up with their customer care multiple times and no one was giving me an eta on the item. Ended up cancelling it. Now since i chose to buy from best buy on Black Friday i will nlt get those prices anymore and will have to spend more than I initially planned. I have been a loyal customer for best buy but after this experience i am nerver ordering again from them. I rather choose amazon instead. Not only did i miss other Black Friday deals because of them but now will also have to spend extra money for the same item. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

    Middiling TV

    Could be better if it had the hardware for 4:4:4 chroma subsampling at 120Hz instead of 4:2:2. Color banding on white to gray transitions could be better too. Some units suffer from some screen uniformity issues. Pixel response time could be better, as could its contrast ratio with local dimming enabled.

    TCL doesn't upgrade Google TV as new versions are

    The TV quality is ok. The issue is the TCL does not update Google TV. At least not with any regularity. My tv is still running a version from 2022. Not only am I missing great new features but it puts my system at risk . So my suggestion is to get a competitors tv, one that upgrades.
