My previous TVs have all been budget brand. They were great, but they are not even in the same universe as the TCL QM9K. My oldest daughter recently moved out, so my wife and I decided to turn her old room into the movie/game (PS5) room. Being the central area for movies and gaming, we wanted a better TV. The QM9K absolutely delivered. I don't know if there is a better TV out there at the moment.
First, it's packaged nicely. I installed it by myself, which was a little tricky. I recommend two people to put the stand on and put it where you want it. To install the stand, I used two of the side protector Styrofoam pieces to lift the bottom corners to install the stand. I will say that the specs list the stand as 47" wide, it's not. It actually measures 15.25" wide by 14.5" deep. It easily fits on a small dresser (our temporary spot until I mount it). It is a compact stand that doesn't take up much space, but it is deep enough to be very stable.
Initial setup is easy. If you have the Google Home app, you can add it and it can import settings from the app. It also has Gemini built in. If you have the microphone on, you can say, "Hey Google, turn on/off the TV", plus anything else you want Gemini to do. There is a separate light at the bottom of the center panel where the power light is that comes on when it is listening. You can also set it to ambient mode when you walk in the room.
The first thing I did after setup was watch a movie. It was night time and this TV is insanely bright. I also watched during the day and with two windows across from the TV and the sun hitting them, it was still bright and easy to see. I then watched a YouTube video that was 4K HDR of various scenes with a lot of color and contrast. (The pictures are from that video). With this TV having 6,000 local dimming zones, blacks are pure black and colors explode. I've never seen a TV this good with colors, blacks, contrast and saturation. It is absolutely top-tier. I have always had a soundbar for my living room TV, but with these speakers, I don't think I will be getting a soundbar. The sound is loud, clear and deep. It's the only TV that I've seen where you can see speakers on the back. It is plenty of sound for the smaller bedroom that we have it in.
The remote is backlit, which I believe should just be the standard now. I will say that for me, the remote is a little lacking. It does have voice control and dedicated buttons for Netflix, Prime Video, Free TV, and YouTube. However, it doesn't have dedicated buttons for rewind, play/pause and fast forward. I would like to still have those buttons. I watch a lot of YouTube videos and to pause it, I have to hit the center button which brings up the progress bar on the video and then press it again to actually pause it. It would be nice if it was just one button press. Fast forward and rewind are the left and right side of the circle. Not terrible, and it's just me being nit-picky. For comparison, my budget TV remote has buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+, Tubi, and a "favorite" button that is customizable to the app of your choice. I have that set to Hulu. It does have a play/pause button, but rewind and fast forward are the left and right of the circle button. Just having that play/pause button is great. I wish the QM9K remote had it. Again, nothing huge, just something I wish it had.
Overall, this TV is in a class by itself. If you're looking for a TV, I cannot recommend the QM9K enough. It has absolutely blown me away.

Ok, so I’m upgrading from a standard 4k to this beast. Even though my previous tv was 4k, it doesn’t even compare to some of the features.
Setup. It’s pretty standard. I thought it was a tad confusing, but realized I was over analyzing it. It’s super easy to setup. Honestly taking it out of the box took longer than hooking up the base and setting it upright. I like how you can wall mount it or use the base. The base has two levels. One is lower or the other is higher if you have a soundbar.
Powering on and running the update took about 15 mins, but that’s probably my internet connection at the time. I’m still messing around with the perfect settings, but I’m super happy so far.
The refresh rate, the picture quality and sound are amazing. I love the built in subwoofer. It’s making my hockey watching so fun!
Visually all the colors are popping magnificently. Sports are crisp and vibrant. The reds and black tones don’t disappoint. I was blown away at the red from the 49ers football jerseys. It was so impressive how rich the red color was. The refresh is quick and something I’m still getting use to it since I didn’t really use it with my previous tv.
I was impressed with how the transition from Hulu to Disney+ to Netflix went. I still have to work on the refresh and color levels. But I was impressed with the basics. The room the tv is in is really bright, so I can make the adjustments for that.
The sound has been impressive. I don’t think you need a subwoofer. It was great watching sports and then streaming something for the kids.
Pros:
4K
Apps
Mobile app
Dolby vision
Motion rate 480
144Hz refresh rate
4 HDMIs
HDR10
Smart capable
Google voice
Comfy and style remote
Cons:
Nothing so far
Overall:
This is simply amazing. I’ve loved every minute. I’m debating on streaming or using something like a Roku device and use a high quality hdmi to see the difference. I know it’s expensive, but you can’t go wrong with this beast. Now I want to get a ps5!

Let’s get to the point. If you're looking for a high-end top of the line TV that pushes the envelope on clarity, brightness, sound quality and smart features, you should consider the TCL QM9K 65 inch.
My previous TV was the Vizio M Series 50 inch that I’ve had since 2019. It was and still is a great TV but I thought it was time for an upgrade to see what has changed over the last several years with TV’s, so enter the QM9k. Inside the box came the TV( well protected), the usual paperwork, the stand with necessary screws, cable management clips, the remote( with 2 AAA batteries).
Attaching the stand, swapping HDMI cables and placing the TV didn’t take long( ~20 mins) especially if you have two people working on it. You can also mount it if needed but you’ll need the required tools, and likely expertise to get it done properly for your setup. Once powered on you’ll have to go through a few rounds of initial setup options and updates, (it is a smart tv after all), especially if you’re a Google account holder and want to attach your account. This took me around 20~30 mins.
I won’t do a spec dumb since that’s easily found on the BestBuy’s page for the QM9K but I will share what I liked. The first thing that struck me was how bright it was. According to TCL it can achieve 6500 nits. This was actually pretty great for me given that my living room gets flushed with a tonne of natural light during the day and based on where I’ve placed the tv the glare would lead me to pull the curtains. But those days are gone, my curtains can now be pulled all day without sunlight affecting my viewing experience. The next thing I noticed was that the screen is near bezel less and it had great viewing angles.
When it comes to viewing content, this TV is top notch, especially if you are viewing a lot of HDR content. “Colors pop” would be an understatement , they explode whether you are watching films, sports or gaming. On the topic of gaming this excels! This was set up with my PS5 and no matter what I threw at it, a shooter like The Finals, sports like Fifa or more story driven like Ghost of Yotei (currently playing & loving this) it crushed it. I don’t even know what lag is anymore. Not to forget audio, but the sound from the Bang and Olufsen speakers was definitely an improvement from my previous tv. It is very good but you won’t be getting theater-sounding performance without pairing it with a dedicated sound system, which you can attach either via the HDMI eARC port or through blutooth.
So as I’m sure you could have guessed the QM9K is a smart TV but it is just a lil tad bit smarter, as it has Google’s Gemini built. So you can either from the TV’s remote ( ohhh yeah the remote is well designed, intuitive and illuminated!!!) or speaking directly to the TV( it has microphones you can turn off) you can access it just like you would from your phone or computer.
The bottom line is you can’t go wrong with the QM9K, you’re getting outstanding performance in many areas and you’ll never wanna look away.

Setup: With it being a Google TV, signing in and updating the TV didn't take long, only a few minutes. The usual apps like YouTube, Netflix, etc. all are accessible directly from the TV. There was no lag selecting or using the apps like I've had on other lower end smart TVs. Adding channels from my antenna was also relatively quick. The tuner seemed to be pretty good as it picked up a lot of local channels.
Picture: The contrast is amazing. The blacks actually look black while other colors look bright. I watched a few of my 4K movies and they were very clear. I also noticed that it doesn't reflect the glare from my lights as much as my previous TV did. The QD mini LEDs really make a big difference. The slim bezel and relatively thin case makes it so it doesn't take up a lot of space mounted to the wall.
Sound: Although I have a soundbar and surround sound set-up, I tend to use it for watching movies. When just streaming or watching local channels, I like to listen directly from the TV. I have never seen speakers like the ones here. They are large for TV speakers and very clear. I don't have to have the volume at full blast even though they face the rear.
Overall I am very impressed and happy with the TCL TV. It has a lot of features, like a sensor that will turn it on when you walk in the room, a remote that lights up, 144Hz refresh rate support for gaming, and a good amount of HDMI inputs. Can't go wrong with this TCL television

Great TV as you would expect! I would say for most people, save some money and get the qm8k rather than this version. This one is very bright, but not much brighter than that. Thrre is practically no blooming maybe due to all the dimming zones. There is some macroblocking happening that may have more to do with streaming apps, but not something I have seen on other TVs consistently. Probably could be fixed with a software update, but the TV has been put through its chops and I am thus far very pleased, especially with 4k Blu-ray content in HDR. Also awesome sound so far and I don't know that I will need a sound bar.

TCL has been an emerging TV powerhouse in the US market since 2013 and is now the fastest growing TV brand in America. I admit I haven’t been as familiar with TCL because in the beginning they focused more on budget-oriented Roku style tv’s. But choosing to focus on that product allowed them to grow and expand their lineup to more higher end premium tv’s. I have been loyal to Samsung the last 15 years but with the QM9K QLED Mini LED TV, their latest flagship model, TCL now has my attention. This TV is by far one of the best I’ve ever tested and should seriously be on your short list of considerations if you’re in the market.
Initial unboxing of the tv was easy and straight forward. We had the stand on in less than a few minutes and were rocking and ready to go. First impressions of the tv itself is it feels very high end. The minimal frame on the outside of the tv compared to our old family room Samsung is a nice change. The tv isn’t overly heavy for a 65 inch and will be easy to mount over the fireplace once I get some help installing this weekend. The cable management straps are a nice touch to help keep everything neat and orderly. The remote that comes with the QM9K is fully integrated with Google Voice and is easily paired to the tv. Just wish they had put the Power Button on the top left corner, I’ve inadvertently muted my TV a few times now because they put the power button on the right side, but I’ll adjust!
Setup with Google TV is as seamless a process as you’ll find. I love the Google UI and the ability to pre-load your favorite apps. Coming from a 7-year-old Samsung in our main living room area it’s strikingly apparent how old, outdated and basic the software was. Google TV feels like a whole new TV experience, especially with the introduction of AI and Gemini. Gemini is just scratching the surface of capabilities. Some of the highlights are you can use it to answer debates among family members with detailed answers to questions. Point towards helpful YouTube videos to solve how to problems at home. It can recommend new shows based on preferences or even do season recaps of shows to help you catch up. It can even help you find a TV show by vaguely describing it like how Apple Music works with lyrics. Hands free access with “Hey Google” is possible as well as well as automation of Google Home devices connected to your home network. My favorite feature so far is the ability to have it detect when someone enters the room and turn on to standby mode which will either display art or photos loaded to your Google Account. There are also additional widgets that can display weather, news, as well.
The Technical Specs on this tv are impressive. If you’re considering this model you probably have done some homework already on features, so I won’t dive too deep into the technical aspects of this tv. Just know the Q9K is an absolute monster with every feature you could possibly need. The colors and brightness on this tv are phenomenal. Rich beautiful depth of color with amazing contrast. The Mini-LED and 6500 Nits of brightness provide such a clear, bright and consistent picture. The anti-reflective screen provides a clear glare free viewing experience for Mid-day viewing with 178 degree viewing angle that allows you to see the picture clear from virtually anywhere in the room. The QM9K is also a beast when it comes to video games as well. The 144hz refresh rate and built in AMD processor taking it to 288 ensures minimal lag and high kill rates for you COD fans out there. I was blown away the first time I booted up the new COD. The realism in the textures and visuals was insane. The minimal screen tears and just fluidity of how the Q9K handles fast moving objects is impressive. Even my wife who usually isn’t interested in video games couldn’t get over how good the TV looked. You pair that experience with the built in Bang and Olufsen speakers and you have an immersive TV that delivers on all levels. The speakers are a nice bonus as the TV can double as a Bluetooth speaker when not in use.
Overall, I am very pleased with the TCL QM9K Mini-LED TV. It blows away our current family room tv in every way shape or form. If you’re looking for a TV with all the features you could ever want or need for the next 5-10 years, the QM9K is it. It’s a powerhouse of a TV, plain and simple!

The choices for TV’s are vast and it can be hard to decide what is best for you. This is TCL’s latest for their high end models and competes with other OLED TV’s of similar caliber. It excels as a general use TV, great for gaming or movies. The brightness is exceptional and perfect for any living room and light levels.
The packaging that the TV comes in is okay and not the best. Removing the TV required several steps to follow, making it more difficult if you want to save the box for later (like for moving purposes). Overall, the TV is protected well as expected and it does come out quite easily after following the instructions. All the hardware is included to wall mount the unit, but it came with what seemed like 4 spacers but if you decide to use them, they did not include screws that would be long enough? The initial setup is not bad with a google account, but you are forced to go through the smart TV steps before you can even use the TV. Out of the box settings are good and usable, and the colors are vibrant and sharp. Using it during the day with windows around, the reflections can be visible but it is not bad at all. There are several interesting software features like adaptive brightness, where the brightness of the TV will go up or down depending on what is being shown. The processor is nice and fast and you are able to use apps like youtube or netflix without any lag. One drawback is that there is some noticeable vignetting in the corners, so that could become a pain point if you focus on it too much.
In the end, this TV is very competitive and one of the better options for a high end mini LED TV. If you don’t want to worry about burn in and can sacrifice just a tiny bit of brightness, then this is a great option to go with.

I've had a few different Android TV's and I was a little worried about getting this: This is a premium TC with with the best TCL LED technologies and on paper it should rival top tier LG and Samsung TVs. My concern with it was the android experience - while the Android TV UI and deep integration of content across streaming platforms is great for getting you all of your favorites in an easy to find and navigate UI, I've found that as an OS for a smart TV it gets bogged down and becomes slow to load. I'm happy to report that so far that HAS NOT been the case, I suspect given the premium package of amazing picture quality and decent backward facing sound that TCL was happy to make sure they added enough processing and memory to keep the SMART capabilities running smooth as well. I've historically only bought LG or Samsung TVs when looking for an ultra-premium visual experience but this TCL has won me over - playstation and 4k bluray look amazing and the streaming services also provide great capabilities. The QD-mini LED seems to really provide responsive screen refresh while also driving mind blowing contrast. There is plenty of connections for video games and 4k blu-ray plus audio out to drive a surround experience that you'll probably consider upgrading to match the beauty of this TV. This TV supports Dolby Atmos and DTS-X built-in and do work GREAT in a pinch but if you're going to invest this much in the absolute best picture you really owe it to yourself to using a true 11.1 system to pair it.

The Best QD-Mini LED Smart TV on the Market

The TCL QM9K might be the best non-OLED TV I’ve experienced in person. It’s intended as a direct competition to the top-tier Mini-LED and OLED models. It even sits above the already high-performing QM8K. I believe there's another model that is considered the "flagship," but I really don't see how the QM9K is not it. It offers an increase in hardware capabilities and overall horsepower. Plus, the QM9K is special because it has features like built-in Google Gemini. The TV has a cool room sensor built-in that can tell if someone's actually in the room. This means it can automatically switch to a nice ambient art mode or just power down to save some electricity. The feature works very well.
The QM9K is an extremely bright TV with a TCL-rating up to 6,500 nits of peak brightness. I’ve watched video reviews where real-world HDR measurements in a 10% window showed it hitting between 4,200 and 4,400 nits, making it one of the brightest consumer TVs available. These measurements were taken in a small area of the screen, which is more telling of the limitations of these types of tests. Though this TV was shown to be capable of maintaining over 800 nits full-screen.
The W-HVA panel improves off-angle viewing compared to previous generations of LCD or LED but still doesn’t compare to my OLED. It's supposed to have an industry-leading number of dimming zones, up to 6,000. I noticed very little blooming, but a little was still there before a firmware update that helped. I was very impressed by color accuracy and blacks in SDR Filmmaker Mode right out of the box. HDR Filmmaker was also just as good. I really liked their Movie mode as well. It supports all major HDR formats, including Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG, and IMAX Enhanced. Watching movies at night felt like being in my own theater (and I saved $20+ a person in the process).
The TV runs the latest version of Google TV and includes the Gemini AI Assistant built in. It’s the snappiest version of Google TV or Android TV I’ve used including Google’s OEM devices. I don’t think it's the quickest TV operating system but it's the best version of Google TV I’ve used. I wish the OS was more light weight and had less advertisements but that’s not necessarily on TCL. That’s my opinion of Google TV overall.
The TV is modern looking, and TCL claims a zero-borderless design. It’s not quite borderless but the border is extremely thin. It’s the same border width as my two-year-old OLED. The slimmer bezel really does make a premium viewing experience. It almost fades into the wall. Included is a high-quality, backlit remote. I wish it came with number keys as it would make typing passcodes and passwords much easier. An ATSC 3.0 tuner is built-in for next-generation over-the-air broadcasts. I have not tried the tuner as the majority of my viewing is via streaming apps. Number keys on the remote would have made antenna channel surfing easier as well.
It offers excellent gaming specifications, including support for 4K at 144Hz and up to 1080p at 288Hz. This is most definitely a great gaming TV. Includes HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on two ports, VRR support, and super low input lag. Though the motion handling could use improvement. I noticed some motion blur when I played Cyberpunk 2077. Honestly, the built-in sound on this TV is probably the best I've heard. They teamed up with Bang & Olufsen on the design, and it handles both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. That said, it's a pretty slim TV, so you still need to be realistic about how loud and deep the audio can be. You will need to invest in a high quality soundbar, powered speakers, or a home theater system you want the whole home theater experience.
While the TCL QM9K has great hardware, I’ve read about and seen videos about small problems with the aggressive brightness limiter, which to preserve colors, it can make the bright scenes too dim. In the daytime I sometimes choose to turn off auto brightness during sports and some movies to get brighter in my family room with many windows. Also, read some buyers and reviewers seeing problems with loss of fine shadow details and overblown highlights. Everything the QM8K did so well, the QM9K is a little better. As amazing of an image and colors are on the QM9K, the QM8K is going to a better value for the average consumer.

TCL is competing for the best in show

The QM9K is the latest model in TCL’s move from value-priced products to also producing high-end products to compete with the best offered by the top names in the TV market. This is their current flagship product with astounding specs and state-of-the-art hardware. It’s the first to hit the market with Google Gemini baked in as well as Dolby Flex Connect. Those features alone will be a fleeting win since others will be quickly following. The real question is how does it perform? Can it equal or outperform the best of the competition?
Everything about this set shows quality in both appearance and performance. The build quality is first class with an understated and an attractive borderless design. It matches its physical appearance with performance. The picture quality of its WHVA panel equals anything available and surpasses most. It’s incredibly bright and razor sharp with over 6000 local dimming zones. I didn’t detect any noticeable bleeding or blooming even with the high-contrast graphics common in sports and news broadcasts. Colors are deep and saturated and spot on. The superior appearance of OLED over QLED screens has been erased in color and contrast and well surpassed in brightness. By specs, it’s the brightest screen in the consumer market with a maximum rating of HDR6500 (6500 nits). That’s well more than most probably need. I found the ambient lighting control nicely adapts the brightness and contrast from a very sunny room to nighttime viewing. Some purists will undoubtedly want to have full manual color, and that is up to you. The B&O sound system also surpasses what you’d expect. It’s the best TV sound I’ve heard, but I still prefer my high quality soundbar and sub-woofer. As Dolby Flex Connect speakers become available, it will be interesting to hear how that compares since it will tune your speakers to your room. The backlit remote is well laid out with appropriate shortcut buttons for apps and quick access to settings. It matches the quality and design of the TV. Look at the product information, and you’ll see that this TV has every quality feature you might need both in picture, sound, and software.
The operating system is Google TV with Gemini built in. Just talk to your TV, and it will suggest YouTube videos or tell you where and what is available to watch based on your query. Its replies are video based, so general questions can get some unusual results that miss the mark. This is the first set on the market with the change from Google Assistant to Gemini, and I expect the Gemini AI to get more useful as that system matures. There are some baked in Google apps that can’t be deleted or hidden, as well as several TCL apps. The online TCL user guide is very good, and you’ll need it as you explore and set up this TV. There are a lot of things you can customize including a very useful popup for easy setting changes (picture mode, sound mode, etc.), and it doesn’t interrupt viewing. The setup process provides you with QR codes allowing you to use your phone for logins and such. It also prompts you to load the TCL Home app and sign on or establish an account. Beyond that, I didn’t find the app particularly useful. It’s a home management app, so if you have several TCL products, you may find it more useful.
Another unique feature is the optional Presence Sensing. When used, it will turn the TV’s Ambient Display on (photos, art, etc.) when you get within an adjustable distance. It can also display a weather/news widget. You can set the time as well as triggering distance. It works as designed. I found it interesting and used it for a while.
It's a great TV and certainly flagship quality. For brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, and features, it can’t be surpassed by anything I know of on the market. If you want one of the best out there, I can wholeheartedly recommend the QM9K. This is a premium, flagship TV. You get what you pay for.
