I bought this sound bar to replace a really decent Sony- 100 that i had for 11 years. Figured it was time for an upgrade to say the least. The bar set up quickly with TCL 5 series TV and really sounds great. Crisp treble, clear voice and adequate base. Certainly loud enough. The surround effect is a bit wider than the Sony had but if you listen closely you can sense the spread. While playing music and a movie, for kicks and giggles standing 2-3 feet away- my god you can really feel the immersion as sounds come from the left right and behind. Connected to Chromecast and phone via bluetooth worked fine. CEC connection allows most operation with Roku TV remote. Nice.
Movie sound field is best but I found using Music is truly better for music listening as it sounds clearer and wider
Four stars because:
As many have said, documentation provided and manual on is really poor and lacking info such as proper HDMI and Dolby sound choice,
Connection with sub woofer at outset was problematic. Took several attempts with manual hookup and somehow managed to get it.
TV setting and boost sound field awful. Really annoying that the bar forgets prior setting upon re starting and YOU NEED TO SET MOVIE AND SURROUND EACH TIME! Pretty simple fix- hopefully there will be an update
Sooo I would recommend getting this at $249 or below. Wait for a sale

Not sure yet on this soundbar. Not expensive ---got it on sale for $200. Looks great, material quality is good. Doesn't get real loud, but set up is easy when using a TCL tv. Occasional problem with sinking audio with tv----talking is out of sequence. Is that a fault of tv or soundbar? Regardless, it happens too frequently....

I hate not being able to write a great, positive review of this sound bar. I do not write that many reviews and you always want your purchases to be "better than you thought" kind of purchases...
Summary: Has good things but ended up returning this product due to its normal sound performance, purchasing a $500 soundbar on sale during the holiday at $299 and absolutely do not regret it.
OK, to be honest I only bought this soundbar due to $$$$. I had thought of spending the $299 already for a Klipsch 600 Home Cinema Soundbar which I had heard good thing about it.
However, when presented with a $100 bundle discount on this top of the line product, I changed my mind and bought this product bundled with my 55" 4K TCL Roku TV Series 5.
Good things about it: it looks great and fits perfectly with the TV ( soundbar height does not obstruct the TV view on a TV table or stand). Subwoofer size is small and looks quite modern, sleek and good. In fact the whole package does. And of course integration with the TV via HDMI works flawlessly: changing the volume using any remote works great in small increments that seem just right.
But: The sound!!! It's not bad and the indirect type of sound helps build some sort of surround effect to some degree, but that just was not enough for me. I guess I have been spoiled now for several years using a set of old B&W speakers for music in other room, but even a very old 2.1 Sony system seemed to have more impact than this (but worse dialog clarity). It bothered me that I could not hear any type of direct sound and the extremes of treble and bass sound were just not there. You expect some of that in a soundbar with a sub but I didn't get any of that. Anyways, I enjoyed the system and did not compare directly with anything but always had these thoughts in the back of my mind.
However it was more pronounced during a music listening session using airplay that it became intolerable. It didn't help matters that the next day I heard a friend's Sony soundbar system (nothing great, just a regular model 2 or 3 yrs old, sub+bar) that did have that direct sound impact and better extension of treble and bass sounds.
Well after that, I made my decision and returned the product. Thanks to Best Buy's and /or TCL's return and refund policies for that.

I like this soundbar. I’ve had full 7.1 home theaters in the past. This sounds good. No mistaking this as anything but a soundbar. I dont want the clutter of speakers, so this gets the job done. TCL has an issue with ATMOS. It lags and their is nothing you can do. They need to update their firmware, I’m using this with a TCL 6 series TV via eARC.
I would still recommend this. Sounds much better than my Vizio 5.1.

Simply put, there is probably not a better bang for your buck than this TCL soundbar. Let's get something out the way before I rant on - this will not replace a high-end, dedicated atmos system with multiple satellite speakers, but if you're looking for ANY soundbar to do that, you have wishful thinking.
This is, however, the best soundbar I've heard that does a pretty good job at approximating an atmos experience at a low cost. I don't have wires running all over my living room, and this bar certainly delivers room-filling sound with various objects clearly present to my sides, behind, or above me. This acoustic deflector design really does work. Compared to other atmos soundbars (with 7+ speakers!) this creates a much more natural and room filling sound. More expensive bars sounded thin and weak by comparison.
If there's one downside, it's that there is only one HDMI input.
If you want something to give you a convincing atmos sound with a low visual impact in a room of your choice, give this a look.

Great sound when it works. It’s quirky and randomly powers itself off, and the only way to get it back on is to unplug from outlet and then plug back in. I have mine paired with tcl 65r635 tv and the new 2021 Roku Ultra. I have found that using the new Roku Pro remote helps to solve the freezing up issues with sound adjustment….but good luck finding one of those! The whole reason I purchased this was to get Dolby Atmos sound…which is pretty good sound despite other problems. Just wish that a firmware update would help with some of its quirky issues that I had read many others are also having.

Got this sound bar as a replacement for an older Bose unit that died. Using together with a TCL Roku smart TV connected on the HDMI ARC port. It is working well and the sound is great. The included wireless subwoofer has slightly adjustable volume and adds the right amount of bass. It enhances the sound bar without being overly thumpy. The wireless subwoofer connection has been steady and reliable. The only time it disconnected was when we had to shut power off several times while doing some electrical work. Connection restored easily by power cycling both the subwoofer and sound bar.
Sound volume is adequate for us in a living area of about 750 sq. ft. Though I'm sure it would have worked out of box, I did got through setting up of WiFi so I could update the firmware. You will have to go to TCL's website for instructions and they are not in a single concise document. You have to look at 2 or 3 support articles to get a good understanding, but it was not hard to find the information. When you go through the setup, take your time as the sound bar does move through these step a little slowly.
Got the firmware updated with issue, connected to TV and am appreciating the great sound ever since. Bluetooth was easy to use and sounds great also.
I am very satisfied with this product.

The product itself is overall good. Sounds great, loud without heavy bass in the straight out of box sound. The remote signal is a little slow to catch up, and if you turn it off, it takes 2-3 mins to wake up and choose the input. We went with the optical cable provided, which is nice that is came with both an optical, and an HDMI cable. The power cord could be longer. I would recommend.

This soundbar is from TCL's highest sound product lineup and worth every penny. The Dolby Surround Sound works so well and these speakers aren't overkill, they have just the right volume support level for the common home theater with perfectly balanced base, treble, and a simple to use remote. Love this!

Really clear sound. The dialog is not muddled at all. I find the best sound when it is in movie mode. The bass is quite impressive. As this is my first atmos enabled soundbar I am unable to compare the atmos to anything else, but so far its pretty sweet.
So far my only gripe is that connecting to the WiFi has been a bit of an issue.

let me tell your right now you're paying for some technology this soundbar in not capable of delivering. my Vizio 2.1 soundbar that cost half the price sounds nicer than this bar. if you live in a small apartment with not a lot of space and you want to get the most out of the least possible footprint than i would actually recommend these. you wont be able to get the technology this soundbar has unless you get a set of speakers with 5 different pieces to create a real full cinematic experience. this will deliver that in only one soundbar with three channels and a sub but that being said, the limitations are noticeable at least for me. its not my first set, so i already have expectations in my head. dolby atmos should sound better than dolby audio and to me it did not, its unfortunate only these few tcl models are roku tv ready because that was what i was originally looking for. ill have to give that up for a better theatrical experience using 5.1 vizio for the same price. for those wondering what roku ready meant, it lets you not only adjust the volume but change the sound profiles all with one remote using on screen options. ill still be able to control the volune but if i want to change the sound profile i need to revert back to the stock remote which i was trying to avoid. oh well.

It synced up perfectly and I can use my Comcast,or T. V. Remote to control.
Rich sound and good wireless subwoofer. We watched WW84 and the Dolby atmos was fantastic! The sound filled the room and was realistic.

Over the last few years I've upgraded all my TVs to TCLs with the ROKU operating system. The factory sound is fine, but if you add a sound bar the viewing experience is much improved. I recently purchased a 75" 6-series for my family room and the old sound bar had to go. Since I like the TVs so much I thought I'd give the TCL sound bars a try. Granted I've only had the sound bar for a week, but it's truly a game changer. It's also nice that I only have to use one remote to control both the TV and the sound bar. The surround sound is incredible and the wireless subwoofer works great. We've been using it to watch TV and listen to music via AirPlay from our phones. The music sounds just as good, if not better, than my Sonos Play 5. The sound bar design looks great and the digital menu behind the cloth fabric provides for a clean aesthetic. For the price you can't beat the value. I'll definitely be buying another one for the game room downstairs.

Wasn’t anything special . The design is visually cool, but honestly there is no actual Ray tech but ultimately it’s just using the curve on either end to bounce sound off of your walls. And if you have no walls for it to bounce off of , then it doesn’t sound all that great. The bass was pretty good, no features to customize the sound other than 3 modes and didn’t have a feel of quality to it being all lightweight plastic.

In my day, I have had plenty of sophisticated home theater setups. But I wanted something simple for the family room where we watch TV, movies and Game. Thought it might make sense to get a TCL soundbar since we have a TCL TV. This did just the trick! Hookup was super easy, and it came with the HDMI cable I needed. I was thinking about just setting it on a stand beneath the TV, but after seeing the included wall mount hardware, I decided to give that a shot. It went up super easy and, again, connected with once cable!
I like movie mode as it seems the most full sounding, and having a dedicated center channel speaker really pays off with nicely clear voices. Not sure what that whole “Ray Danz” thing does, but it fills the room nicely with sound. It’s not as good as dedicated rear speakers, but, hey…it’s not! It’s one bar, one wireless sub (which really punches!) and about 30 seconds to hook it up!
One cool thing that I didn’t expect is that all of the options to adjust the sound on the sound bar somehow automatically became part of y on-screen adjustments on the TV Options screen…I can never touch the sound bar remote again!
Highly recommended!

The Alto 9+ is a good pairing for an on a budget TCL TV. The compatibility with Atmos is barely noticeable and the sound stage isn't very large. But for a smaller, budget setup it's ah good sounding bar and sub woofer. Highs and lows are well defined and voice is clear with the center channel. I wouldn't expect mind blowing performance. But it sounds good and for the price gets the job done.

Went over budget on my TV so tried to go with a budget selection here. Pleasantly surprised, good base but good dialogue. Bluetooth has been good so far. Don't expect to be getting all the bells and whistles or top of line sound experience with this. But I use it on a 75" TV with lots of video games and kids watching movies, and it's much better bang for your buck than one might think.
